The living room in Lin Su's apartment felt fuller than usual that night. Not because of the space, but because of the tension sitting quietly between them.
Xu Yan was the first to break the silence. "Okay, I'm just going to say it. That was not normal."
Lin Su leaned back against the couch, arms folded. "It wasn't."
Wen Jinhai stood by the window, hands in his pockets, his expression unreadable. Jian sat across from him, elbows resting on his knees, still thinking.
Mei Lin remained calm as always, but her eyes had not softened since they returned.
Xu Yan looked between them. "I mean, think about it. After the series ended, after we sent off Director Park… she disappeared. Completely. No calls, no messages, nothing."
Liu Wen's name almost slipped out of habit, but Xu Yan caught herself and continued, "We all thought she left the industry, right?"
Lin Su nodded slowly. "That was the most reasonable explanation."
"She didn't even try to stay in touch," Xu Yan added. "Not even once. And now suddenly—she shows up in the same estate we just moved into?"
Jian finally spoke, his voice low. "That's not coincidence."
Wen Jinhai didn't turn around, but he said, "Too precise."
The room went quiet again.
Mei Lin uncrossed her arms and leaned slightly forward. "I'll say it clearly," she said. "That wasn't accidental."
Xu Yan blinked. "You think she planned it?"
Mei Lin met her gaze. "I don't think. I feel it."
Lin Su looked at her. "Based on what?"
Mei Lin shook her head slightly. "Nothing concrete. No evidence. But instincts don't lie for no reason."
She paused, then added, "Her timing, her tone, the way she approached us… it didn't feel like someone reconnecting. It felt like someone stepping into position."
Jian frowned. "Position?"
Mei Lin nodded. "Yes. Like she already knew we'd be here."
Xu Yan let out a slow breath. "That's… unsettling."
Lin Su's fingers tapped lightly against her arm. "So what are you saying?"
Mei Lin's voice remained steady. "I'm saying we stay alert. We don't jump to conclusions, but we don't let our guard down either."
Wen Jinhai finally turned from the window. "That's reasonable."
Xu Yan groaned softly. "I just wanted peaceful neighbors. Is that too much to ask?"
Jian gave a faint smirk. "In this industry? Yes."
That earned a small laugh, but it didn't last long.
Lin Su sighed quietly. "We've come too far to get careless now."
Mei Lin nodded once. "Exactly. One wrong step and everything starts slipping. We can't afford that."
Xu Yan leaned back dramatically. "Fine. Vigilant mode activated."
Jian shook his head. "You're not taking this seriously."
"I am!" Xu Yan protested. "I'm just… coping differently."
Wen Jinhai said calmly, "Just don't underestimate her."
That settled it.
No one argued after that.
The conversation shifted slightly, but the weight of it remained.
Then
The door opened. Everyone turned at once.
For a second, no one spoke.
Then Xu Yan shot up frodm her seat. "Wait—"
Lin Su's eyes widened slightly.
Mei Lin straightened.
And Jian
Jian didn't wait.
The moment he saw her, something in him broke loose. He stood up so quickly the chair behind him shifted, then crossed the room in two long steps.
"Liu Wen."
Her name left his mouth like it had been sitting there all along.
Before she could say anything, he pulled her into a tight hug.
Not careful. Not restrained.
Just real.
Liu Wen froze for a split second, then slowly lifted her arms and returned the embrace.
"I'm here," she said softly.
Jian didn't let go immediately.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming tonight?" he asked, his voice lower than usual.
Liu Wen smiled faintly against his shoulder. "I wanted to surprise you."
Xu Yan clutched her chest dramatically. "Oh my God… I'm watching a reunion live."
Lin Su let out a small breath she didn't realize she was holding.
Mei Lin's expression softened just a little.
Jian finally pulled back, but his hands remained on Liu Wen's shoulders, as if making sure she was actually there.
"You're supposed to be preparing for training," he said.
"I am," she replied. "But I still have a few days."
Xu Yan rushed forward next, wrapping her arms around Liu Wen. "You scared me! I thought you already left!"
Liu Wen laughed softly. "Not yet."
Lin Su stood up and walked over, her voice quieter but warm. "You should have told us."
Liu Wen looked at her. "I wanted to see your faces."
"You succeeded," Xu Yan said. "My heart almost dropped."
Mei Lin stepped closer, her tone calm. "You picked a good time to come."
Liu Wen noticed the slight shift in her words. "Something happened?"
The room went quiet again.
Xu Yan looked at Lin Su.
Lin Su looked at Mei Lin.
Mei Lin didn't hesitate this time. "We ran into Amy."
Liu Wen's expression changed—just slightly, but enough to notice.
"Here?" she asked.
"In this estate," Jian replied.
Liu Wen processed that quickly. "That's… unexpected."
Mei Lin shook her head. "No. That's calculated."
Liu Wen glanced at her. "You think so too?"
Mei Lin met her gaze. "I don't believe in coincidences like that."
Liu Wen was quiet for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Then we keep our distance."
Wen Jinhai added, "And we watch."
Xu Yan groaned. "Why does everything suddenly feel like a strategy game?"
Jian said dryly, "Because it is."
Liu Wen looked around at all of them, then smiled faintly. "Then we play it properly."
Lin Su returned the smile. "Together."
That word lingered in the room.
Together.
