At the entrance guard post of Konoha Village, two ninja stood on duty.
"Security's been insanely tight lately," one of them complained.
"Can't be helped," the other replied. "We just suffered an attack. On top of that, I heard Kumogakure and Iwagakure are putting pressure on us. The higher-ups are on edge."
"Sigh… when will things finally calm down?"
Just then—
Through the morning mist, two figures slowly approached.
The guards immediately tensed.
"Halt!"
"State your names and your purpose!"
Uchiha Itachi and Hoshigaki Kisame stopped in their tracks.
Itachi lifted his head, revealing—
Scarlet Sharingan eyes.
"You—!"
The guards' faces changed instantly.
"It's the Uchiha—"
Before they could finish, Itachi's Sharingan spun.
Their eyes went blank in an instant.
Both guards collapsed to the ground.
Kisame clicked his tongue in amazement. "So handy. The Sharingan really is convenient."
Itachi spoke calmly, "Let's go."
"The target is the Nine-Tails' Jinchūriki."
The two figures walked into Konoha.
Shrouded by the morning mist, their silhouettes gradually vanished.
———
Kakashi watched Sasuke training and fell into thought.
"Sasuke, come here."
Sasuke stopped and walked over.
"What is it, Kakashi?"
Kakashi smiled. "I'm planning to take you to see the Hokage."
"See the Hokage?" Sasuke looked confused.
"Yes," Kakashi said. "It's about a summoning beast. I think there's one that suits you very well."
Sasuke's eyes lit up. "Which summoning beast?"
"The Monkey Clan."
"The Monkey Clan?" Sasuke was startled. "Isn't that the Third Hokage's summoning?"
Kakashi nodded. "That's right. The Monkey Clan excels in both offense and defense, with extremely high combat ability. Combined with your Sharingan and Lightning Release, the results will be outstanding."
Sasuke thought for a moment, then nodded. "I understand."
"Then let's go," Kakashi said. "To the Hokage's office."
———
Hokage Office.
Kakashi led Sasuke inside.
The Third Hokage was reviewing documents. When he saw them enter, he smiled.
"Kakashi, Sasuke. What brings you here?"
Kakashi got straight to the point. "Hokage-sama, I'd like to apply for a summoning contract with the Monkey Clan for Sasuke."
The Third Hokage paused, then looked at Sasuke.
"The Monkey Clan… are you serious?"
Kakashi met his gaze, his expression solemn.
"Yes, Hokage-sama. Sasuke is hardworking and extremely talented. He's worthy of the Monkey Clan."
The Third Hokage raised his pipe and took a deep puff.
Smoke slowly spread through the room.
He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he turned to Sasuke.
Those aged yet piercing eyes seemed to peer straight into the boy's heart.
"Sasuke," he said slowly.
"What do you think?"
Sasuke didn't shy away.
He met the Hokage's gaze head-on, eyes firm.
"Becoming stronger is my wish."
He bowed deeply.
"Please, Hokage-sama!"
The Third Hokage fell silent.
The only sound in the room was the faint crackle of the burning pipe.
He looked at Kakashi, then at Sasuke, memories surfacing—
The Uchiha clan of the past.
The night of the massacre.
His own helplessness.
If he could help this child…
Perhaps it would be a form of atonement.
"I understand," the Third Hokage said at last.
"I approve your request."
Sasuke looked up, shock flashing across his face.
"Really?! Hokage-sama!"
The Third Hokage set his pipe down and stood up.
"Kakashi is right. You are indeed worthy of the Monkey Clan."
"And…"
He stepped in front of Sasuke, his voice gentle.
"You are a child of the Uchiha, and also a child of Konoha. Helping you grow is my responsibility."
As he spoke, he began forming hand seals.
"Summoning Technique!"
Poof!
A scroll appeared amid the smoke.
It was the Monkey Clan's contract scroll.
The Third Hokage handed it to Sasuke.
"This is the summoning contract passed down through generations of the Monkey Clan."
"Sign your name, and you will become one of their contractors."
"However—"
His gaze turned serious.
"Signing is only the first step. To truly earn the Monkey Clan's recognition will depend on your own efforts."
Sasuke accepted the scroll.
"I understand! I'll definitely work hard!"
Kakashi smiled faintly.
"Go ahead, Sasuke."
Sasuke bit his finger and signed his name on the scroll.
Bright red blood seeped into the paper.
Hum—
An invisible wave of chakra spread outward.
The contract was formed.
"Very good," the Third Hokage nodded. "From today onward, you are a contractor of the Monkey Clan."
"Train the Summoning Technique well."
Sasuke bowed deeply.
"Thank you, Hokage-sama!"
Kakashi added, "Thank you for agreeing, Hokage-sama."
The Third Hokage waved it off. "It's only right. Sasuke is Konoha's future. Helping him is helping the village."
He returned to his seat behind the desk.
"Oh, right, Kakashi."
"Yes?"
"I just received a report that the guards at the village entrance have lost contact."
"It could simply be a communication issue, but these are special circumstances. It's best to stay cautious."
Kakashi frowned slightly.
"Do you want me to check it out?"
The Third Hokage shook his head.
"No need. ANBU has already been dispatched. Take Sasuke back and guide his summoning training."
"Yes."
Kakashi and Sasuke took their leave and returned to the training ground.
"Alright," Kakashi said. "I'll teach you the basics of the Summoning Technique."
He explained calmly.
"There are three steps."
"First, use blood as the medium."
"Second, form the hand seals. For the Summoning Technique, they are: Boar, Dog, Bird, Monkey, Ram."
"Third, press your palm to the ground or an object and call the summoning beast."
"The most important factor is chakra."
"The amount of chakra determines the size and strength of what you summon."
Sasuke listened carefully and nodded.
"I understand."
"Give it a try," Kakashi said. "Don't be nervous. Failing the first time is normal."
Sasuke took a deep breath.
He bit his finger.
His hands flew through the seals.
"Boar—Dog—Bird—Monkey—Ram!"
"Summoning Technique!"
Poof!
White smoke burst outward.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"You succeeded on your first try?"
As the smoke cleared, a small monkey stood on the ground.
It was only about half a meter tall, wearing a tiny ninja outfit.
"Yo!"
The monkey scratched its head.
"Who summoned me?"
Sasuke stared, disappointment creeping in.
"Why is it… so small?"
The monkey immediately bristled.
"Hey! What do you mean by that, brat?! I'm the son of Lord Enma!"
"My name is Enra!"
"I'm Lord Enra, the future successor of Lord Enma!"
Sasuke froze.
"Enma's… son?"
Enra puffed out his chest proudly.
"That's right! So don't look down on me! I'm really strong!"
Kakashi smiled.
"Looks like you're quite lucky, Sasuke."
"You summoned Enma's son on your first attempt."
"That means the Monkey Clan recognizes you."
Enra turned toward Kakashi.
"Oh? You're Kakashi, right?"
"I've heard my father mention you."
Then he looked back at Sasuke.
"So you're the new contractor? Uchiha Sasuke?"
Sasuke nodded.
"That's me."
"Please take care of me."
Enra circled him.
"Hm… you seem decent enough. Fine."
"From today on, I'm your partner!"
"I may be small, but I'm no slouch in battle!"
"Call me whenever you need me!"
With that, Enra vanished in a puff of smoke.
Kakashi watched as Sasuke continued practicing the Summoning Technique.
"Alright, Sasuke. I have something to take care of."
"Keep practicing on your own for now. Summon Enra a few more times and build some rapport."
"I understand, Kakashi."
Kakashi turned and left the training ground.
As he walked through the village, the Third Hokage's words echoed in his mind.
"Guards at the village entrance lost contact…"
"Even though ANBU has already gone, I've got a bad feeling about this."
Kakashi quickened his pace, heading straight for the village entrance.
