Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"Good morning, Mr. Torres." I said, standing to my feet immediately he pushed the door open to my office and walked in.

William's phone was pressed to his ear and if he heard my greeting, he chose not to acknowledge it because he simply walked straight to his office door, using his keycard to unlock it and stepping inside.

How delightful.

I was up bright and early this morning and I got ready just in time to catch the first train to the city just so I could be as punctual as was expected of me.

After the little debrief which was given to me by my lovely boss yesterday, we didn't really have much more interactions. He let me get settled in and become accustomed with how the office is run. I didn't do much, really. Which was why I was certain I was in for quite a day today.

It wasn't long after William stepped into his office that my telephone rang out on my desk.

He was the one calling.

I picked up immediately.

"Sir-"

"Get me a cup a coffee." He demanded abruptly and wasted no time in ending the call.

"Okay." I whispered mostly to myself as I placed the telephone down and stood from my seat.

I made my way towards the coffee machine situated in my office. I had no reason to use it yesterday but I'm guessing that was what it was here for; brewing coffee for William Torres.

I contemplated calling to ask how he preferred his coffee, although something in my gut told me that he preferred it black. Plain black. Just like his soul.

I simply decided to place the black coffee on a sleek black tray alongside cream and sugar, and just wait to see how he prefers it when I give it to him.

I made my way to his office door once that was done and knocked gently with my free hand.

This time, I waited patiently for him to say that it was okay to walk in.

And he did.

"Come in." He said.

I pushed the door open and walked in, closing the door behind me. I moved further into his office, to his office table till I carefully placed the tray on it.

William looked up at me with one raised eyebrow, "What is this?"

Not sure what he meant, I simply gave him the only answer I possibly could, "Your coffee, sir."

"I don't drink coffee from that coffee machine." He said, fixing his eyes back on his computer screen. "I only have coffee from Starbucks. Reserve."

Well, how the fuck was I supposed to know that?

"Well, don't just stand there. Have it ordered for me, now." He said, like he was dismissing me.

I could strangle him.

"And what exactly would be your coffee order?" I asked him.

He looked up at me again, this time, irritably. Like he was annoyed at my question. Like I was just magically supposed to know how he would like his coffee.

Well, I didn't.

He took a moment before he said, "Double espresso, oat milk, no sugar."

Wow, shocker.

"Noted, sir." I said with a nod.

"And get this off my table." He said, gesturing to the coffee on his table.

No problem at all.

I did as he said and made my way out of his office.

I was able to handle his coffee order without any complain this time. I made a call to the nearest Starbucks Reserve and it seemed like they were already familiar with the order for Mr. William Torres. It got delivered here in time and when I gave it to him, all he had to say was that the coffee misunderstanding must not repeat itself and how coffee was part of his daily routine so it was something I had to do every morning.

I simply nodded in response before making my way back to my office.

It wasn't even up to 9 AM and I had already 'upset' him.

Gosh.

I was focused on my computer, organizing William's work schedule when I heard my office door open. I looked up to see a good looking man, about 5'11, honey blonde hair, neatly dressed and a briefcase in his hand.

He cleaned up really nice.

I immediately recognized him to be Timothy Waters, the Chief of Staff and literally the closest thing William had to a right hand. This was all part of the knowledge I drew up from all that organizational learning I did yesterday.

The confusion written on his face at the first glance at me was quickly replaced with realization as he said, "Oh, you must be Will's new secretary. Um…"

"Maddy." I told him, standing to my feet. "Madelyn Clarke."

A small smile played across his lips as he took my appearance in. He moved toward my desk and immediately he was standing directly opposite me, he extended his hand, saying, "Well, I'm Timmy Waters. Chief of staff."

"It's a pleasure to officially meet you, Mr. Waters." I said with a smile as I shook his hand.

"Oh, God. Timmy, please." He said, his hand still shaking mine. "I got back from a business trip yesterday and couldn't be here at the office, which is probably why we are just meeting."

He was a lot warmer than his friend, William. I wanted to believe it didn't have anything to do with the way he was staring at me with so much interest and attraction.

All of a sudden, the door to William's office was pulled open, revealing my lovely boss in all his sunshine glory. There was a crease between his brows when his eyes landed on both of us and I was quick to pull my hand away from Timmy's grip.

"If you came here to see my secretary, Timmy, you could've just said so." William said flatly as he stood by the doorframe.

Timmy released a breathy laugh as he made his way to his friend, "Good to see you too, Will."

William's eyes met mine for a brief moment—ice blue, sharp enough to cut through marble, completely impossible to tell what he was thinking.

Then his gaze quickly averted back to Timmy, "Shall we?"

Timmy spared me one last glance before walking beside William into his office and shutting the door behind them.
