Chapter 87 - The Demon In The Future

The raid on the Yakuza base ended in a catastrophe that shook the hero community. What had been planned as a decisive joint operation led by the best hero agencies in Musutafu collapsed completely when Junsei unexpectedly appeared in the middle of the assault. The combined force had gathered some of the most capable heroes and U.A. students, yet the battle ended in devastating losses.

Professional heroes and students alike paid a heavy price. Izuku Midoriya and Eijiro Kirishima both ended the battle with broken limbs. Tamaki Amajiki suffered serious internal injuries after being electrocuted during the fight, while Nejire Hado lost part of her hearing and would require hearing aids to live normally from that point forward.

The worst case among the students was Mirio Togata.

He fell into a coma.

Doctors could only confirm that his brain activity was unstable and that none of the treatments they attempted had any effect. No one could say if he would wake up again.

The professional heroes suffered even worse losses. Fat Gum and Mr. Brave died during the battle, while the remaining heroes sustained severe injuries that would keep them away from hero work for weeks at the very least.

Without question, it was the worst failed operation in years.

When the news spread across the country, public reaction was immediate. Many people believed Junsei's appearance had been intentional. After months of disappearance, he had suddenly resurfaced and massacred heroes in a single battle.

Some said it was a declaration and that he wanted to spread fear. If that had been his goal, then he had succeeded.

Fear spread quickly through society. The idea that such a dangerous psychopathic villain capable of disastrous devastation had returned created a wave of panic that neither the police nor the hero agencies could contain.

Meanwhile, investigators began connecting the events surrounding Junsei's recent movements. He had entered the Yakuza compound before the heroes arrived to eliminate the Yakuza members himself and encountered the heroes while leaving the area.

During the battle, Junsei displayed a new ability. He could create bullets from his own blood.

That detail immediately caught the attention of investigators. The method of killing matched the work of the mysterious serial killer who had been eliminating criminals across the country in recent weeks.

The realization raised an uncomfortable question. Why was Junsei targeting villains?

If he intended to act as a vigilante, then why had he fought the heroes so brutally? Why kill them without hesitation?

No one could answer. His motivations remained impossible to understand.

While analysts and investigators tried to understand the meaning behind his actions, All Might did not waste time speculating. The moment he learned what had happened, he went straight to the hospital.

A heavy feeling of helplessness and anger weighed on him as he walked through the silent corridors.

The people lying in those rooms were not strangers. They were his colleagues, his students, his successor, and even his former sidekick. Seeing them broken and injured filled him with a quiet frustration he could barely contain.

When he reached the recovery ward, he found Midoriya standing beside a hospital bed. The boy's arms were wrapped in thick bandages, immobilized from the damage he had suffered during the battle.

Nearby stood Sir Nighteye.

His body was wrapped in layers of bandages as if he was a mummy. He stared down at the figure lying in the bed before him.

Mirio.

When Midoriya noticed All Might entering the room, his shoulders sagged as if the last of his strength had left him.

His eyes looked empty as he spoke. "I'm sorry… I failed you. I failed everyone."

His voice trembled. "I don't deserve to wield One For All, Junsei had attacked everyone because of me, my own weakness had allowed the battle to end in disaster."

All Might sighed softly.

"Young Midoriya," he said gently, "you did your best. Even if other professional heroes had been in your place, I doubt the result would have been very different."

"But I have One For All!" Midoriya shouted, his voice cracking. "And I still couldn't do anything!"

Sir Nighteye remained silent.

He didn't turn toward them or acknowledge Midoriya's words. His gaze remained fixed on Mirio. Anger and grief burned quietly behind his calm expression.

If Mirio had inherited One For All instead of Midoriya…

Perhaps he could have stopped Junsei.

Perhaps the outcome wouldn't have been this disastrous.

All Might tried again.

"Young Midoriya, Junsei is one of the strongest individuals I have ever encountered. His abilities are numerous and unpredictable. But once you master One For All, you will be able to defeat him."

Midoriya lowered his head.

"I can't beat him," he whispered. "And I will never master it."

"You cannot allow defeat to take hold of your heart," All Might replied firmly. "As long as you are still standing, there will always be another chance. Believe in yourself."

Midoriya shook his head weakly. Tears began forming in his eyes.

"It's not that…"

He wiped his face before continuing.

"He did something to me."

All Might frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Midoriya looked up, panic visible in his expression.

"I didn't realize it at first. But One For All… it lost power."

His voice trembled.

"He took half of it."

All Might's eyes widened.

"What? He took half? How? Are you sure?"

At the same time, Sir Nighteye finally turned around, his expression full of alarm.

"What do you mean?" he demanded. "Explain exactly what he did to you."

Midoriya struggled to explain through his tears.

"I don't know. He pulled me inside my quirk…."

He hesitated before continuing.

"And… he summoned the Earth… and dinosaurs to help him."

Silence filled the room.

All Might and Nighteye stared at the crying boy, completely unable to understand what he was describing.

——————

That evening, despite the condition of his body, Sir Nighteye made his way to UA. His injuries had not yet healed, and every step sent a dull ache through his body, but he had refused to remain in the hospital.

Inside the principal's office, Nighteye sat across from Nezu. Beside him stood All Might, his expression unusually grim.

The two heroes carefully relayed everything they had learned from Midoriya. They spoke about Junsei pulling Midoriya inside the vestige world of One For All. They described the existence of the previous users, the strange appearance of the Earth within that realm, and Junsei's claim that he had taken all of AFO's memories and experiences before killing him.

His small paws were folded together as he listened to their recounting, eyes narrowed in deep thought. As the explanation ended, his expression slowly grew more serious.

"The world AFO mentioned…" Nezu said slowly, "must be that Earth Midoriya described."

He paused briefly, his mind racing through possibilities.

"A connection to life… perhaps a connection to the Earth itself."

All Might frowned.

"The more urgent matter," he said firmly, "is that Junsei can steal power from quirks. He managed to take half of One For All power only because Fat Gum sacrificed himself to stop him. Junsei probably can steal more power than 50% or even steal the quirk itself."

Nezu nodded slightly.

"He is dangerous," the principal said quietly. "And he is becoming more powerful by the day."

Nighteye spoke, "The most frightening aspect of that monster is not his power," he said, his voice steady but tense. "It is his ability to judge and adapt. During the fight, he analyzed Mirio's quirk in real time and discovered a method to bypass it."

He paused.

"He learns with every battle and changes his fighting style. I dare say he is beyond AFO in that regard, he doesn't stack quirks or rely on brute force, he masters and strategizes with what he has"

Nezu tapped his desk thoughtfully before asking, "What about your Future Sight? Have you discovered why he was able to bypass it?"

Nighteye lowered his head and for a moment, the office was silent.

Then, he finally spoke in a quiet voice "He is not human. He truly is a demon."

Both Nezu and All Might looked at him in surprise.

They knew the truth of Junsei's origin, that he had been reborn into this world as a human. But Nighteye did not know that history. And even then, Junsei was not a demon to begin with.

"You sound as if you mean that literally," the principal said. "Why do you believe that?"

Nighteye exhaled slowly.

"When he spoke with that girl at the end," he explained, "he referred to himself as an enemy of humanity."

His hands clenched.

"So I decided to look deeper into his future at that moment. Not just a few seconds ahead… but far beyond."

Nezu leaned forward slightly with interest "And what did you see?"

Nighteye's face paled.

His body began to tremble slightly as the memory resurfaced.

He closed his eyes.

"I saw a demon," he whispered. "A white faceless demon with glowing blue horns and eight horrifying wings floating in the sky."

His breathing grew heavier.

"And beneath him… as far as the eye could see… death and destruction."

His hands slowly rose to cover his face.

"Buildings reduced to rubble. Streets torn apart. Corpses everywhere."

His voice shook now.

"Shredded bodies covering the ground like discarded meat. The earth itself was painted red wherever one looked."

The room fell into silence.

"That thing destroyed everything," Nighteye continued, his body trembling. "It slaughtered everyone."

He lowered his voice to a whisper.

"It was hell unleashed upon the world. No words suffice to describe what I saw."

His hands tightened against his face.

"If the future truly can change…" he said, forcing the words out, "then we must kill that thing at any cost."

"Otherwise everything will end and all of us will die"

All Might and Nezu exchanged stunned looks as they watched the usually composed hero shake uncontrollably in his chair.

Finally, All Might asked "When will that happen?"

Nighteye slowly shook his head as he answered in a hollow voice.

"I don't know. With everything that has happened… I couldn't think clearly while using my quirk."

He hesitated.

"And now…"

He looked down at his hands.

"I don't trust my own Future Sight anymore."

After a moment, Nighteye forced himself to look up at Nezu.

"Principal Nezu," he said seriously, "we must gather every ally we can."

His voice hardened with determination.

"He is a threat to all of humanity. He is not acting blindly. He has a purpose he is moving toward. His words to AFO were not empty, he takes offense at our existence and he aims to eradicate us."

Nighteye paused before finishing.

"He stole power from One For All. That means he will only grow stronger. Eventually, the faceless demon is going to become a reality."

His eyes met Nezu's.

"We cannot treat this lightly. And we cannot afford to wait."
