[Bonus chapter for powerstones]
As expected, it was an item on the same level as the original Decay Rate Algorithm manuscript.
Peter was quite satisfied with the number. Without a moment's hesitation, he chose to sacrifice it.
Hum—!
In the next second, the uniform he was holding vanished into thin air right before the eyes of Fury," Natasha, Coulson, and the Captain himself!
This, of course, was a deliberate move by Peter.
Sure enough, Fury was visibly rattled by this latest "trump card." His single eye nearly popped out of its socket. Was that... spatial manipulation?!
Not only did this kid have energy blasts and healing magic, but he also mastered spatial magic?
Hiss—can't provoke him, definitely can't provoke him!
If Fury had merely lost his temper before, he was now in utter despair. He no longer dared to harbor fantasies of controlling Peter. If he annoyed this Child, and the kid decided to tear through space and put a blade in his back... he wouldn't even have a place to go to cry about it.
In an instant, Fury's face performed a classic "Sichuan Opera" mask change. He went straight to "I'm behaving now, please let me go!"
"Alright, transaction complete."
Peter acted as if he hadn't noticed their bewildered stares. He stretched lazily and spoke: "It's getting late; I should head home and rest. Natasha, do me a favor and give me a lift."
His tone was matter-of-fact, as if he were ordering around his personal chauffeur.
Natasha opened her lips to speak, but Fury cut her off, his voice bordering on fawning: "No problem!"
"Agent Romanoff, ensure the Arbiter is delivered home safely! From now on, your primary mission is to coordinate with and fulfill any of the Arbiter's requests!"
After barking the order, he didn't forget to turn back to Peter to score some presence points: "Sir Arbiter, if you need anything in the future, just say the word. S.H.I.E.L.D. guarantees full cooperation!"
Peter smiled and patted Fury on the shoulder, giving him a rare word of validation: "Very good, Mr. Fury. I see you've gradually mastered the way of officialdom!"
On the way home, the distant wail of sirens drew closer. Even with the windows rolled up, Peter's enhanced hearing caught the keyword "Ghost-Spider."
He leaned his head toward the window. On a nearby building, he saw Gwen in a heated exchange with a figure in a purple suit equipped with steel-clawed gauntlets.
Noticing Peter's gaze, Natasha shrewdly tuned the car radio to the internal police frequency:
"...The criminal in the purple suit calls himself 'The Prowler.' He just robbed a jewelry store but was intercepted by Ghost-Spider. Sir, do we have permission to fire?"
The Prowler?
Peter's brow twitched. The name reminded him of Miles Morales' uncle from the multiverse. But he soon shook his head, a faint smirk forming.
This Prowler's suit looked crude and comical—a cheap DIY job, nothing like the Kingpin-funded version from the movies.
More importantly, even if he did have a nephew named Miles, so what? Every genetically modified spider in Oscorp had already been destroyed by Norman Osborn on Peter's advice. He had watched Norman handle it personally; not a single one escaped.
Without the spiders—unless someone managed to reverse-engineer Gwen's specific DNA—this universe would never see another Spider-Man.
"That Ghost-Spider... she's your childhood friend, Gwen Stacy, right?" Natasha's voice was casual, as if they were just making small talk, but her grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly.
"Mm-hmm." Peter shrugged noncommittally, essentially confirming it.
In the rearview mirror, he saw Gwen use her agility to kick the Prowler to the ground, wrap him in a web cocoon, and hoist him by the collar as she swung away.
A faint smile touched Peter's lips. Left her alone for a few days, and the girl's superhero career is thriving!
Maybe in a little while, he could reveal his true identity to her. Though... where did she learn that weird "capture and carry" move? Oh, wait, she learned it from me. Never mind then.
Natasha saw the smile on Peter's face and looked back at Ghost-Spider. A flicker of envy touched her heart. To have a man this powerful watching over you from the shadows... what a lucky girl.
The next morning, Peter didn't take the school bus. Instead, he quietly followed Uncle Ben as he left for work.
As Ben's fifth-hand clunker pulled out of the neighborhood, a low-profile black sedan fell in behind it. Noticing Peter's gaze, the window rolled down to reveal a grinning face—Phil Coulson, sporting his newly restored hair.
Seeing Coulson mouth the words "Don't worry," Peter nodded in satisfaction. It seemed the Nick Fury was truly behaving; he wouldn't have to worry about Ben and May's safety during work hours anymore.
After spending the day at school discussing "Ghost-Spider vs. The Prowler" with Gwen—greatly satisfying her vanity—the day came to an end. Just as he parted ways with her at her front door, he got a call from Herman:
"Boss, the downgraded battery you wanted? I've finished it!"
Peter's eyes lit up. He turned into an alley and pressed a button on his watch.
Whir—
A streak of black light shot into the sky and hovered steadily in front of him—the Goblin Glider. Suiting up, Peter hopped on and headed for Herman's small apartment.
"Boss, look!" Inside, Herman beamed with pride. "This battery is the size of a standard phone battery, but it holds over 20,000 mAh! Ten times the capacity of a normal phone!"
"And, per your request, I've designed a dedicated fast-charging technology. It can hit a full charge in under half an hour!"
Checking the multimeter and confirming Herman wasn't exaggerating, Peter nodded. With this battery tech, his smartphone empire could finally begin. Without hesitation, he grabbed Herman and the prototype and headed straight for the Osborn Estate...
