Chapter 8 - First Echo of a Sin

[Focus master sloth: feel the energy inside of you and all around you; gather it into your palm, grip it, and throw it.] Luna pleaded, not wanting the most recent reincarnation of Sloth to die.

Veil breathed in and out, trying to grasp the energy around him. He misdirected and guided the energy to his eyes, which enhanced his sight and night vision greatly.

[system notification- passive skill night vision upgraded to passive skill moons eye.]

Veil's night vision increased. If before he in the dark he had 20/10 vision, now he has 20/3 vision, which is superhuman level. In terms of sight on Earth, scientists would have called this an evolution in the human race or the next step in the evolutionary ladder.

He could see everything in this cave perfectly. Unfortunately, this ability is not useful when not in a dark place like a cave. Luckily, he was fighting these goblins in a cave; this skill would be a lifeline for him.

Then something terrible happened: two of the goblin warriors who entered the darkness earlier found him. The worst part of it was that he threw away his dagger and shield; he was completely defenseless. One of them had a sword; the other had a spear.

The goblins looked ready to charge at Veil at any second.

Veil felt true terror. Sloth Hell was not a kind of place anyone would enjoy: the time distortion, the reminiscing of past moments, wondering if you deserved this, the wish to not exist, loss of smell. It was truly horrifying beyond human comprehension; it was as if he couldn't feel but could still think and exist in an endless void. Veil could have been in there for two days and could still think it was a millennium. You would start hearing voices, but after a while, sanity returns because the illusions you made to cope can't keep up with the trauma you generate. Hell made Veil know one thing: as long as he was there, he was alone.

Veil could only sigh, looking at the goblins brandishing weapons before him, knowing he was going to have to be a reckless brute, knowing he had to give it his all.

He analyzed the cave using Moons Eye's superior sight and range. He noticed all the spread-out goblins, every spike or bump in the cave, the shaman and the goblin leader of sorts doing something. He assumed it was the leader due to the gold it wore, and come on, the goblin shaman was literally wearing a blue wizard robe, pointy dark blue hat, and even a wand.

They seemed to be summoning something of sorts. Unluckily, they were mostly out of his range of vision, about 140 feet away from him, which is a few feet out of his vision. To him, they were a little blurry, but overall he could still see them. There was blood everywhere, so maybe it was an internal fight. Overall, Veil had no time to make theories.

All the goblins in the shadows were basically blind except for the few feet ahead of them, so naturally Veil had to use that as an advantage. Any advantage would help.

After all, goblins being nearly blind in the dark part of this cave was Veil's first real advantage. His second advantage was knowledge on the power source known as mana, which can be separated into four distinct methods of use. He just had to focus on the first: spellcasting.

"Come on, focus Veil. Just condense the mana in your body into a ball. Come on, how complicated could it be? Luna would never give you an impossible task while you're at death's door, would she?" Veil thought.

He exhaled in and out repeatedly in mere seconds, focusing on a mana ball in his hand but decided to go above what Luna said because he was in charge of his life, not her. He pictured a ball spinning clockwise and being propelled forward.

The result: he lost 32 percent of his mana, barely made a ball of mana, and it was spinning super slow. He should have just listened to Luna and not tried to do his own thing.

So he just grabbed the ball of pure mana and threw it at the spear-wielding goblin. It landed, and the goblin's body distorted. Most of it slammed into the cave wall twenty-three feet away with blood all

(goblin pov)

How did this mere human send away Ortlocke with a simple hand touch? Impossible. This human was faking it. This entire fight has wounds are just there to make us look down on him. Was he toying with us all along? If I move even an inch, I will die. I can feel it.

(narrator)

Veil picked up the spear, wondering why this goblin did not move. It simply appeared to be paralyzed in fear, so much fear in fact that yellow liquid was dripping down its leg. The once proud warrior was now scared beyond belief by simple mana manipulation that even he someone not native to this world or with any experience with mana could do.

Veil lunged the spear at the goblin's chest, not wasting the chance to get rid of an annoying opponent.

[System notification: due to constant use of moon's eye and night vision and mana based attacks host has lost a significant portion of his mana

host is recommended to stop using moon's eye

Remaining Mana: 110/340]

Blood and pieces of organs, flesh, and skin covered the blade that veil had just acquired A/N: did the math and 133-135 feet is where his vision would start to get blurry
