Silence fell heavier than any battle cry.
Seris steadied herself, furious. "That wasn't fire manipulation."
Silas whispered, "It wasn't even energy manipulation."
Aelira's voice sharpened. "It was sequence control."
Kael stared at the figure.
"…You're not using fire at all."
The figure responded instantly.
"Fire is an interface layer."
Nyra frowned. "Interface for what?"
The figure turned slightly.
"System recursion."
Riven barked a short laugh. "I understood none of that and I hate it."
The Ember Core inside Kael pulsed again—but weaker, like something was compressing its response.
Kael stepped forward slowly.
"Stop talking like we're variables."
The figure tilted its head.
"Clarification: you are variables."
Lira grabbed Kael's hand tighter. "Kael, it's trying to reduce you."
Kael didn't look away.
"…Reduce me to what?"
The figure's gaze sharpened.
"Predictable outcomes."
The air around Kael flickered.
For a split second—
He saw it.
A version of himself repeating endlessly.
Different outcomes.
Same conclusion.
Controlled.
Contained.
Lira saw his expression shift. "Kael?"
He shook it off.
"…No."
The figure observed carefully.
"Resistance detected."
Seris stepped forward again, slower this time.
"If you can control structure," she said, "then you're part of what created the Refined Flames."
The figure paused.
"Refined Flames are iteration layer 3."
Silas stiffened. "Iteration?"
Aelira whispered, "That means there were earlier versions…"
Kael's voice dropped.
"…We're not the first attempt."
The figure nodded once.
"Correct."
The forest darkened slightly.
"And you are not the last."
Sorry about the confusion guys but please bare with me about the change and the chapters that a changing.
