Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: The Tower of Truth

The bridge to the sixth tower felt heavier than all the others.

Not physically.

Something deeper.

As if the air itself resisted every step forward.

Not pushing me back..

but refusing to let me pass unnoticed.

Each step felt… acknowledged.

Measured.

Like something ahead was already aware of me..

and choosing not to stop me.

The tower stood in the distance.

Brighter than the rest.

Too bright.

Its surface looked like polished stone..

but the light across it wasn't reflection.

It was exposure.

Nothing on it could hide.

Nothing on it could distort.

Nothing on it could pretend to be something else.

Even looking at it too long felt wrong.

Like my eyes weren't meant to process that level of clarity.

I slowed as I approached.

Sira's voice returned to me..

clearer than before.

The sixth tower shows no mercy to those who see more than they should.

For a moment…

I understood why.

Then the entrance opened.

Not gently.

Not dramatically.

Simply… revealing itself.

No movement.

No separation.

Just a space that hadn't been there..

now existing.

Waiting.

I stepped inside.

Inside the Tower

The space was empty.

Not abandoned.

Not unfinished.

Empty by design.

No symbols.

No corridors.

No distractions.

Just a wide chamber..

with smooth white walls that seemed to reject shadow entirely.

No darkness gathered in the corners.

No echo returned when I moved.

There was nowhere for anything to hide.

Not even me.

At the center of the floor..

stood a single object.

A mirror.

Tall.

Plain.

Unadorned.

It didn't glow.

It didn't react.

It simply existed.

Waiting.

I walked toward it slowly.

Each step felt heavier than the last.

Not from resistance..

from inevitability.

When I stood in front of it..

I didn't see my reflection.

Not immediately.

The surface remained blank.

Perfectly still.

Then..

it changed.

The First Truth

The mirror showed the City of Shadows.

But not as I remembered it.

Not as a place.

As a structure.

I saw the neon streets.

The fractured skyline.

The broken districts.

Then..

I saw beneath it.

Patterns.

Lines.

Intersections.

A system layered beneath the city..

precise.

Deliberate.

The city wasn't built.

It was arranged.

A mechanism.

A containment structure.

The image shifted.

The café that shouldn't exist.

The hidden room.

The blue fracture in the sky.

Each one lit up..

then connected.

Not separate anomalies.

Nodes.

Parts of something larger.

Something functioning.

Something… still active.

A voice spoke.

Not from the tower.

Not from outside.

From within me.

"You already know this part."

The mirror didn't wait.

It changed again.

The Second Truth

Now I saw myself.

Not here.

Standing before the gate from the memory inside the previous tower.

The moment I had tried to understand..

and failed.

Someone stood beside me.

Still faceless.

Still undefined.

But the certainty remained.

They mattered.

More than the memory allowed me to understand.

I watched myself speak.

I couldn't hear the words.

But I saw the decision.

Clear.

Deliberate.

Final.

I wasn't hesitating.

I wasn't being forced.

I wasn't being deceived.

I stepped toward the gate..

willingly.

Choosing it.

The realization didn't hit all at once.

It settled.

Slowly.

I hadn't been sent into this path.

I had entered it.

On purpose.

The mirror held me there.

Didn't let me look away.

Then..

it shifted again.

The Third Truth

The sky fracture appeared.

But larger.

Far larger.

No longer limited to the City of Shadows.

It spread.

Across layers.

Across structures I couldn't fully perceive.

Cracks branching into other realities..

some open.

some sealed.

some collapsing inward.

And at the center of them..

a silhouette.

Not clear.

Not complete.

But undeniable.

Me.

Not as I was.

Not as I had been.

Something else.

Something closer to a boundary…

than a person.

A point where things stopped.

Or began.

The voice returned.

Steady.

Unavoidable.

"Truth does not change you."

A pause.

"It removes what you were pretending not to know."

The mirror began to fracture.

Not breaking..

separating.

Light spilled through the cracks.

Not blinding.

Revealing.

The chamber trembled slightly.

Not unstable..

responding.

And I understood.

This wasn't about seeing the truth.

It was about what I would do after seeing it.

Reject it.

Deny it.

Reshape it into something easier to accept.

Or..

leave it as it was.

I didn't move.

I didn't argue.

I didn't look away.

I let it remain.

Unchanged.

Unsoftened.

True.

Slowly..

the mirror dissolved.

The Reward

Where it had stood..

something rose.

Sharper than the others.

More defined.

A symbol shaped like a line crossing a circle

a boundary made visible.

The Mark of Threshold.

I stepped forward.

This time..

without hesitation.

I reached out.

The moment it touched my skin..

the tower pulsed once.

Not violently.

Not reactively.

Like a system…

acknowledging completion.

Six sigils now rested within me.

Mind.

Perception.

Will.

Origin.

Insight.

Threshold.

They didn't glow.

They aligned.

Something about that alignment felt final.

Like a sequence that had been building..

now complete.

A path opened behind me.

When I stepped back onto the bridge..

the sky felt different.

Not calmer.

Closer.

Like distance itself had thinned.

Ahead..

the final tower stood waiting.

Darker than the others.

But not threatening.

Not hostile.

Still.

Watching.

Or maybe..

deciding.

I understood without needing to be told.

This tower wouldn't test me.

It wouldn't challenge me.

It would determine something far simpler..

whether I pass.

Or not.

I didn't hesitate.

I walked toward the Tower of the Gate.
