Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: The Dark King

The interior of Shakky's Rip-Off Bar was a sanctuary of dim lighting and stale cigarette smoke, a stark contrast to the absolute chaos unfolding across the rest of the Sabaody Archipelago. The Straw Hat Pirates spilled through the doorway, panting heavily and carrying the wounded Hachi, their hearts still hammering against their ribs from the narrow escape.

Silvers Rayleigh locked the heavy wooden door behind them, the metallic click offering a sudden, profound sense of finality. He directed the crew toward a large, semi-circular booth in the back.

"Put him down gently," Chopper ordered, immediately shifting into his Heavy Point. He ripped open his medical bag, his hooves working with frantic precision as he began to clean and bandage the gunshot wound on Hachi's shoulder.

Shakuyaku leaned against the mahogany counter, casually lighting a fresh cigarette. She watched the panicked pirates with a highly amused glint in her eye, completely unfazed by the sudden influx of fugitives.

"You kids certainly know how to pick your battles," Shakky chuckled, blowing a thin stream of smoke toward the ceiling. "Daring to punch a World Noble on the very same island where the False Deity just decapitated one... you have a terrifying lack of self-preservation, Monkey-chan."

Luffy didn't answer immediately; he was already inhaling a plate of meat Shakky had graciously pushed across the bar. It was Usopp who nearly choked on his own spit, his eyes bulging as he looked between the old man who had just saved them and the bartender.

"Hold on a second!" Usopp stammered, pointing a trembling finger at Rayleigh. "You... you stopped a Pacifista with just a look! And knocked out those government agents without even touching them! Who exactly are you, old man?!"

Rayleigh took a slow sip from his silver flask, a melancholic smile touching his lips. He pulled up a wooden stool and sat down across from the crew.

Hachi winced as Chopper tightened a bandage, but the fish-man pushed himself up slightly, looking at Luffy with a mixture of reverence and exhaustion.

"Luffy... you guys really don't know who this is?" Hachi asked, his voice rough. He looked at the old man. "I owe him my life, many times over. He's a coating mechanic now, but... his real name is Silvers Rayleigh. The Dark King. He was the First Mate of the Roger Pirates."

The bar descended into absolute, suffocating silence.

Nami dropped her glass, the glass shattering on the floorboards. Brook's jaw literally unhinged and clattered against his collarbone. Even Zoro and Sanji, whose newly awakened Haki had warned them that the old man was a monster, stared in sheer disbelief.

They were sitting in a rundown tavern with the Dark King, the right hand of the Pirate King himself.

"The... the First Mate?!" Usopp shrieked, clutching his head. "We're in a room with a living legend!"

"You sailed the Grand Line with Gold Roger..." Nico Robin murmured.

She stepped out from the back of the group, her blue eyes fixed intensely on the old man. The historian's heart was beating faster than it had in years. She had spent her entire life running, searching for the scattered Poneglyphs, desperate for a single thread of truth. And now, the man who had seen the end of the world was sitting right in front of her.

"Silvers Rayleigh," Robin asked, her voice calm but carrying a heavy, undeniable weight. "The Will of D... the Void Century... did you and Roger discover what happened during those missing hundred years? Do you know the truth of the world?"

The crew quieted down, looking between Robin and Rayleigh.

Rayleigh didn't look away. He took another sip from his flask, his expression turning solemn.

"Yes," Rayleigh answered simply. "We know the history of everything. We learned the truth of the world."

Robin's breath hitched. Her hands trembled slightly at her sides. The answer to Ohara's prayers, the reason her mother had died, was sitting right there.

"However," Rayleigh continued, his voice softening. "Even if I told you everything right now, Nico Robin... you wouldn't be able to do anything with it. We were too early. And perhaps, the conclusion you reach with your crew might be different from the one we found. But if you wish to know it now, I will tell you."

Robin stared at him for a long, agonizing moment. The temptation was overwhelming. To end the search. To finally know.

But then she looked at Luffy, who was quietly chewing his meat, letting her make her own choice. She looked at the crew who had declared war on the world to save her.

Robin smiled, a genuine, beautiful smile, and shook her head. "No. I'll pass. I want to continue this journey and see it for myself."

"Wait, wait, wait!" Usopp suddenly scrambled forward, his long nose practically twitching with anxiety. He slammed his hands on the table, leaning toward Rayleigh. "Then what about the ultimate treasure?! The One Piece! Is it really on the final island?! Does it actually exist?!"

"USOPP!"

Luffy's voice cracked like a whip.

The Straw Hat captain didn't stretch, he didn't throw a punch, but he slammed both of his hands onto the wooden bar with such force the plates rattled. He glared at his sniper, his eyes burning with an intense, furious passion that brooked absolutely no argument.

"I don't want to hear where the treasure is!" Luffy shouted, his voice echoing in the small tavern. "I don't even want to hear if it exists or not! I don't know anything about it, and everyone sets out to sea to find out for themselves! If you ask this old man anything about it right now... I'll quit being a pirate!"

Luffy crossed his arms, his straw hat casting a shadow over his eyes.

"I don't want to go on a boring adventure!"

Usopp instantly recoiled, throwing his hands up in panic. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I won't ask! I take it back! Please don't quit, Luffy, my lips are sealed!"

Rayleigh watched the exchange, and a wide, genuine grin spread across his scarred face. He looked at the boy in the straw hat, and for a fleeting moment, he didn't see Monkey D. Luffy. He saw a man with a booming laugh and an impossible dream.

He really is just like you, Roger, Rayleigh thought, his heart warming.

The tension in the room finally broke. The crew let out a collective breath, the immediate terror of the Marine pursuit fading into the comforting, familiar chaos of their found family. Shakky chuckled, returning to polishing her glasses, ready to offer them all a proper round of drinks to celebrate their survival.

But before she could pour a single drop, the ambient atmosphere in the bar violently shifted.

It wasn't a slow build. It was immediate and suffocating.

Zoro's hand instantly snapped back to the hilt of Wado Ichimonji, the color draining from his face. Sanji dropped his unlit cigarette, his muscles coiling with explosive, desperate tension. Even Luffy stopped mid-chew, his instincts screaming at him.

Outside the tavern, the wind suddenly began to howl unnaturally, violently shaking the window shutters.

THUD.

A heavy, resonant impact shook the floorboards.

Someone had just dropped from the sky, landing directly outside the front door of the tavern.

"Rayleigh..." Shakky murmured, her playful demeanor vanishing instantly as her hand drifted beneath the counter to grip a hidden flintlock. "That aura..."

"I know," Rayleigh said. The warm, nostalgic smile was gone, replaced by the hardened, deadly focus of the Dark King. He stood up, stepping between the door and the Straw Hats. "Stay back, kids. This one isn't playing a game."

The brass handle of the front door slowly began to turn.
