Slowly, Luna Elisabeth lifted her head and looked at Damon properly this time. Shock was written clearly across her face.
Damon did not miss it. Not even for a second.
For years, he had ruled the Lunar Fury Pack with cold precision. He had learned how to read fear, lies, hesitation, and hidden intentions just by looking into someone's eyes. And right now, his mother was practically trembling in front of him.
But only for a second.
Just as quickly, Luna Elisabeth lowered her gaze again, hiding whatever emotions had escaped.
"I have no idea about it, son," she answered softly.
Yet this time, her voice no longer sounded natural.
It sounded forced.
Uneasy.
Nervous.
Damon's sharp eyes narrowed slightly. Before he could ask another question, Luna Elisabeth immediately stepped back, avoiding his gaze.
"I'll go check on Jacob," she said quickly before turning around.
