Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: Wild Match, How to Play an Instant Kill?

"Go! Nidorino, use Horn Attack!"

"Evade it, Bellsprout! Use Vine Whip to bind it!"

"Nicely done!"

"Wow!"

Roy and the other two turned their heads to look at the same time.

It turned out to be a roadside "wild field" battle spot that had formed spontaneously.

A dozen or so Trainers formed a large circle, and inside the circle, two people were commanding their respective Pokemon in a fierce clash.

A Nidorino and a Bellsprout were fighting back and forth, with cheers and exclamations erupting from the surroundings from time to time.

Wild field duels were a very common sight during a Trainer's journey.

Some Trainers who couldn't wait to test their strength and accumulate actual combat experience wouldn't wait until they reached an official Gym or city battle facility. They would spontaneously organize in such open spaces; the rules were casual, winning or losing didn't matter, and the main focus was on the thrill and passion of battle.

"Hey, three more Trainers have arrived over there." Someone noticed Roy and the others.

A youth wearing a peaked cap who looked quite bellicose waved directly at them and shouted, "Hey! You guys! Do you want to battle? It's very exciting! It doesn't matter if you lose!"

"A duel?" Delia's eyes lit up slightly.

This was the first time she had actively developed the thought of battling.

During their previous travels, she had mostly provided companionship and care, and Eevee had mostly served as a partner rather than a combatant.

But today, Eevee had just reached Level 20. The little fellow was pacing around her feet, full of energy, with a light of eagerness in its eyes.

This gave Delia a small sense of confidence and desire regarding being a "Trainer."

"I want to try!" Delia said softly, her tone filled with anticipation and a hint of nervousness.

"Sure, Delia, let's go!" Misty immediately chimed in. She also wanted to use actual combat to distract herself from that "little thing" on her body. "Roy, do you want to join us?"

Roy nodded. "Of course."

In wild field duels, the opponents' Pokemon were generally a bit stronger than wild ones of the same level, and their battle awareness and cooperation were better. It was a good place to accumulate combat experience and skills, and one could also earn experience points; there was no reason to miss out.

Quite a few people were participating in the wild field, and the atmosphere was enthusiastic.

The three of them were quickly assigned opponents.

Roy's opponent was precisely that youth in the peaked cap who had actively greeted them.

"Haha, I'll go first! My partner is very strong!" The youth high-spiritedly threw a poké ball. "Go, Rattata!"

A white light flashed, and a Rattata slightly larger than its average kin with exceptionally sharp front teeth appeared in the field. Its eyes were fierce, and it kept crying out "Ratta Ratta," showing good momentum.

"A Rattata, huh?" Roy glanced at his shoulder.

Pika!

Pikachu understood, leaping lightly into the field as electric sparks crackled on its cheeks.

"Eh? A Pikachu? An Electric Mouse?" The peaked cap youth was stunned for a moment, then laughed. "What a coincidence! My Rattata is also a mouse-type Pokemon! Let's see who's stronger! Rattata, Quick Attack!"

Rattata turned into a streak of white light and charged fiercely at Pikachu at quite a fast speed.

"Pikachu, Thunder Shock." Roy's tone was flat.

Pikachu didn't even move; it just puffed out its cheeks where it stood.

A golden electric current, far thicker and more condensed than that of an ordinary Pikachu, struck out violently.

It was launched later, yet it arrived first!

Rattata didn't even have time to dodge before it was directly engulfed by the violent current!

Its whole body was charred black and emitting blue smoke as it fell to the ground, its eyes turning into spirals.

A one-hit instant kill!

The entire field instantly went quiet for a moment.

The peaked cap youth's mouth hung wide open as he stared blankly at his Rattata, which had instantly lost its ability to battle, and then at the Pikachu opposite him, which looked calm and composed as if it had only done something insignificant.

"Ah??? W-What?!" The youth clutched his head and let out an incredulous scream.

"My Rattata! Defeated just like that? Why are they both mouse-type Pokemon, but your yellow one is so powerful! This isn't fair!"

Roy smiled and didn't explain.

A Pikachu with special power training and the boost from a Light Ball was simply not on the same level as an ordinary Rattata.

"Good game." He called Pikachu back and walked to the side to watch the other matches.

On the other side, Misty's battle was also nearing its end.

Her opponent was a Mankey with a violent temper and fierce attacks.

But as the daughter of a Water-type Gym Leader, Misty had solid fundamentals and took it down quite easily.

"I won!" Misty breathed a sigh of relief, recalled Staryu, and subconsciously tugged at her waistband.

She hadn't felt it while immersed in battle, but now that she relaxed, the sensation of the lace became clear again... Her face flushed, and she quickly looked over to Delia's side to divert her attention.

Delia's battle was the longest among the three.

Her opponent was a girl Trainer using a Geodude.

Delia was clearly commanding a battle seriously for the first time; her commands were a bit awkward, and she would sometimes hesitate.

Eevee, however, was very reliable. Relying on the decent skills and reflexes it had practiced while training with Pikachu, it moved nimbly across the field, alternating between Tackle, Quick Attack, and Sand Attack.

Geodude had good defense, but its speed was not as good as Eevee's. Several Rollout attacks were narrowly avoided by Eevee.

The battle fell into a stalemate.

"Eevee, keep it up!" Delia clenched her fists, fine sweat appearing on her forehead, but her gaze became more and more focused.

She was gradually finding the rhythm.

"Geodude, keep using Rollout! Knock it away!" the opposing girl shouted.

Geodude curled into a ball again and rolled rapidly toward Eevee.

"Now!" Delia's eyes narrowed. "Eevee, jump up, then hit its back with your maximum power Quick Attack!"

Eevee's hind legs pushed off hard, and it leapt high, precisely avoiding the trajectory of the Rollout.

And upon reaching the highest point, its entire body was enveloped in white light as it dove down like a meteor!

Bang!!!

The white light slammed hard into the relatively soft back of Geodude that was exposed due to the rolling!

Geodude let out a cry of pain. Its Rollout was interrupted, and it tumbled away, struggling for a few moments but failing to get up immediately.

"Eevee, continuous Tackle!" Delia pressed the advantage.

Eevee didn't hesitate after landing, turning into white light and charging again!

Once, twice, three times!

Geodude's eyes finally rolled back, and it lost its ability to battle.

"Yay! I won!" Delia cheered happily, running into the field to pick up the slightly panting but bright-eyed Eevee. "Eevee, you were great! We won!"

Bui~

Eevee affectionately rubbed its cheek against hers.

A round of friendly applause and whistles rang out around them.

Everyone gave encouragement to the rookie Trainer and her Pokemon who had won her first official battle.

Misty was also happy for Delia.

Roy looked at the bright smile blooming on Delia's face as she held Eevee and smiled as well.

At the very moment Delia secured the victory and walked back to him and Misty while holding Eevee.

In Roy's mind, the familiar and wonderful notification sound for mission completion suddenly rang out.
