Chapter 144 - Chapter 144: Chance Encounter (EC)

Within the territory of the Winter's Claw, there was only one law they believed in.

Unite with the strong and raid the weak.

The Winter's Claw did not produce anything, and they had no intention of producing anything.

At most, they went into the mountains to hunt wild animals.

The towering mountains of the Freljord were an enormous test even for the Iceborn.

Caleb's physical qualities had long since surpassed those of ordinary people and were already approaching the upper level of the Iceborn.

Not to mention, the system had thoughtfully provided him with a passive ability: True Ice Mastery.

With this ability, it was equivalent to top-tier Iceborn blood flowing through Caleb's body as well.

The purer the Iceborn bloodline, the higher the level of True Ice weapons one could naturally wield.

From the smallest daggers to enormous battleaxes, the stronger the weapon, the more Iceborn blood was needed to drive it.

And judging by the arrow contained inside Caleb's body, Serylda's Grudge, it could be said that he was already comparable to someone with a top-tier Iceborn bloodline.

What they needed to do next was find a tribe first.

If he wanted to bring the entire Freljord together, then the first hurdle would be the Warmothers of the various tribes.

Then there was the problem of that whole circle of demigods.

There were not only the original three demigods, those ridiculously unfair existences.

The Freljord also had Frost Priests, who worked for Lissandra of the ancient Three Sisters.

There was also the Iron Boar, the Seal Sister, and others…

As well as the spirit walkers who cultivated the power of spirits.

For Caleb, the hardest thing was nothing more than gathering a group of people with different faiths together.

Even if one day they obtained a great harvest, prey large enough to let an entire tribe safely survive the winter.

One person would say it was Anivia's blessing, another would say it was the spirits' roar.

Great. At that point, they might as well not even take the prey. Let both sides start fighting, and whoever won could decide which god had blessed them.

That was the biggest problem Caleb was currently facing.

You could say their faiths were different, but under the leadership of Ashe and Sejuani, they really could be twisted into a single rope.

But could you really say they could unite? Everyone believed in a different god, and the damn things were all real.

Demigods were a menace.

Especially when this rotten place had so many of them.

The people who worshiped these demigods were always acting like their demigod had possessed them, as if they were unstoppable.

Brutes. Ultimate brutes.

Even the Hearthbound, with their mixed bloodlines, actually had a bit of that awful, fight-to-the-death stubbornness in them.

Yet the Freljord's climate was also terrible. Under conditions of extreme food scarcity, people instead had to seek comfort in faith.

Caleb's head hurt badly.

Right now, he did not have any particularly overwhelming ability, so he could only take things one step at a time.

Otherwise, if Caleb had to go up against any one demigod…

Forget it. Maybe better not.

Caleb silently nursed his headache, but his pace did not slow at all.

Yuumi stayed beside Kai'Sa, continuously giving her the effect of Zoomies.

"Are you holding up?"

Caleb carried that cherry-blossom blade and turned back to pull Kai'Sa along.

"The Void is much colder than this."

Kai'Sa gave him a sweet smile, like a flower beneath the rare sunlight.

"That's good."

The ground beneath Caleb's feet felt like flat land. Even the rugged, uneven mountain rocks were nothing worth mentioning to him.

In the barren mountains, he did not need food supplies either.

The snow filling the sky was the best source of water.

The only thing that gave him a headache was probably that he had finally become strong enough to rank near the top of the regional ladder…

Only to accidentally walk into a free-for-all where every pro player had locked in their best champion.

And it was a solo free-for-all, damn it.

"There seem to be people ahead."

After coming to the Freljord, Yuumi had often shouted that her eyesight had gotten better.

Caleb and Kai'Sa did not feel that way.

Maybe it was because the spirit realm here was stronger. After all, there were so many demigods.

"How many?"

Caleb silently crouched down and restrained his aura.

After all, he was walking the path of both magic and martial skill, and Caleb had already crossed the threshold of T3.

If those scouts really discovered him, becoming enemies with an entire tribe would be an extremely troublesome matter.

Not to mention, Caleb did not actually want to be their enemy, from the perspective of unifying the Freljord.

"Looks like a few hundred people."

Yuumi narrowed her big cartoon eyes as hard as she could, staring into the distance.

"They're right below the mountain."

"Then let's go try our luck."

Caleb's understanding of the Freljord was limited to those champions.

However, outside of the champions, there were more roles that could not be ignored.

The Frost Priests and Frostguard serving Lissandra.

And even the other demigods they might encounter later.

Indeed, Caleb already possessed powerful strength. Even as an outsider, taking in some tribes would only be a matter of time.

But if he wanted to call it unification, then just like the Three Sisters of old, what Caleb needed was alliance.

Caleb flipped downward without the slightest hesitation.

The path ahead was all downhill. With their movement speed in this weather, Caleb should be able to catch up to the group just in time.

The Iceborn were ultimately a minority. Any tribe would bring Hearthbound with them.

Otherwise, if everyone was fighting, who would handle logistics?

Making the Iceborn handle logistics would naturally be a pointless reduction of fighting power.

"Need help?"

Caleb turned back to look at Kai'Sa, but she gently shook her head.

"I can still fly."

In the Void, Kai'Sa could rely on the "wings" on her back to fly long distances.

After spending more time over here, Kai'Sa had also mastered the technique of flying through ordinary air.

The two of them did not hesitate and raced down the steep mountain peak.

Under the pull of gravity, the two of them moved faster and faster, and the cloud of snow rising behind them grew larger and larger.

As he rapidly descended, Caleb narrowed his eyes and rushed out from among the sparse shrubs.

"Who goes there?!"

The group at the foot of the mountain had naturally noticed the movement above. They immediately spread out their formation.

When the two reached the foot of the mountain, Caleb left a huge cloud of snow dust behind him, while behind Kai'Sa, there was no disturbance at all.

"That was so exciting! So exciting!"

In Yuumi's long yordle life, she had never seen such a reckless way to play around.

After all, yordles' physical qualities really were limited. They could not withstand that kind of abuse.

Having a cat tree was another matter.

Even after the two landed, the several hundred people did not lower their guard.

They still pointed their weapons at these two uninvited guests.

"Relax. We mean no harm."

As Caleb spoke, he tossed over a large chunk of venison.

He had hunted this earlier while at camp, and in the Freljord, voluntarily giving away the most precious food meant a certain degree of goodwill.

The mask on Kai'Sa's face receded. Unlike Caleb, who was a little covered in dust and snow, even her hair was not messy.

"That function is pretty practical."

Caleb narrowed his eyes as he looked at Kai'Sa beside him. That terrifying battle mask had a very strong sense of intimidation.

"Want me to have someone custom-make one for you someday?"

Kai'Sa rarely cracked a joke. After all, in the Twin Cities, making a more precise folding mask would be simple.

"Spare me. I don't have that kind of presence."

Although he said that, Caleb did think it was a pretty decent idea.
