Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Invitation (EC)

"Is everything here?"

The moment Caleb stepped outside, he spotted what Ekko was holding.

"What is this?"

Once Caleb got close, Ekko took out the item in his hand and asked.

"This is..."

Caleb's mind raced. He did recognize the thing in front of him, but he needed a good reason for why he knew it.

"Tear of the Goddess?"

Looking at the teardrop-shaped item glowing with a deep blue light, Caleb could not help sounding a little uncertain.

"Which old book did you read that in?"

Ekko instantly came up with an explanation for Caleb on his own.

"I'll leave it to you, then."

Trusting him completely, Ekko tossed the Tear of the Goddess straight at Caleb.

Caleb fumbled to catch it and immediately shot him a glare.

"What if it broke?"

"Then we'd start over from scratch." Ekko only shrugged, clearly unconcerned.

"Yeah, yeah. So how's the reconstruction work going?"

"Just patching things up now. It should all be finished by tomorrow, probably."

Ekko finally let out a breath of relief. The project he had been in charge of was nearly at the finish line.

The damage across the city looked horrifying at first glance, but fixing it was really just a matter of manpower and time.

The cooperation between Piltover and Zaun had clearly created the kind of result where one plus one was greater than two.

"That's good, that's good..."

...

[Ding. A ten-pull has been detected as not yet redeemed. Would you like to proceed?]

"Of course!"

It was only after Caleb got back to his office that he suddenly remembered the ten-pull he had promised the system, and also forgotten to cash in.

"You don't talk much, but at least you don't screw me over..."

Caleb was pretty satisfied with this system.

It did not put on a show, the rewards were generous enough, and it even let him catch up on shows.

Honestly, the fact that he had finished Naruto in another world was kind of amazing in its own right.

[Received proficiency: Medicine Lv.5.]

[Received proficiency: Medicine Lv.5. Automatically stacked to Lv.10.]

[Received skill: Shadow Step.]

[Received item: 1 Ionian frying pan.]

[Physical Enhancement Lv.5 has been automatically added to your current attributes.]

[System backpack capacity expanded.]

[Received item: Hextech Gemstone x10.]

[Received item: 1 yordle doll.]

Looking at the dazzling list of rewards, Caleb was grinning so hard his mouth was about to split.

It was not as absurdly powerful as the previous batch, but it was still more than good enough.

If the last reward set had taken him from zero to ten, then this one was more like taking him from ten to thirteen.

It was nowhere near as dramatic as multiplying his strength several times over, but just getting stronger at all was enough to satisfy him.

Knock knock.

The sound from outside startled Caleb.

He quickly stored the pile of rewards on the desk, along with the Tear of the Goddess he had gotten from Ekko, into his inventory.

"Come in."

After forcing the smile off his face, Caleb answered in a steady voice.

"Hey."

Camille walked in with graceful ease and sat down in the chair across from him.

"You haven't been to Piltover lately."

Her voice was noticeably colder than when they had first met, though it was not completely devoid of feeling.

"Zaun's been busy," Caleb said, tossing out an excuse at random.

"There's a young girl in Piltover who wants to hold a concert tour across the twin cities."

Camille was not the least bit shy about helping herself. She picked up the tea leaves sitting on Caleb's desk and started brewing some tea.

"That sounds like a good thing." Caleb still did not quite see the point. "Let her sing."

"It's not that simple." Camille rolled her eyes at him.

"That girl is very talented. Her voice is deeply moving."

"So we want to promote her and turn her into an important bridge for peace between the twin cities."

Camille explained everything at an unhurried pace, then took a sip of the steaming black tea.

"What are you planning to do?" Caleb asked, looking at her refined features.

"If this needs money, I don't have any," he added immediately, giving up in advance the moment he sensed a huge expense coming.

"The Ferros family will handle the money."

"Rich lady, you're the best." Caleb gave Camille a thumbs-up.

"You just need to have some people build a stage and prepare the Hextech speakers."

Camille blinked as she looked at Caleb sprawled lazily in his chair, then took another sip of tea.

"Done." Caleb nodded. Zaun had no shortage of labor for something this basic.

"So how are you planning to make this... future star famous?"

After a moment's thought, Caleb decided he should hear Camille's plan first.

"The effect from her singing on the bridge last time was pretty good, so we plan to have her keep doing that for now," Camille said slowly.

"Then once the newspapers have built enough momentum, we'll have her start in Piltover."

"And after that, she'll come to Zaun."

"Sounds effective." Caleb nodded, fully approving of the plan.

First between the two cities, then a full concert run through Piltover.

To put it bluntly, even if the person they were promoting was not that good at singing, doing that much would still get her recognized.

Caleb already knew exactly who the singer would be, Seraphine.

In his previous life, she had been one of those fan-favorite girls that countless players were obsessed with, and also one of the most unpopular champions.

But Caleb had to admit it, whether it was her looks or her voice, Seraphine really was incredible.

"How about I arrange a meal so she can meet the Governor?" Camille asked with a faint smile when she noticed Caleb drifting off in thought.

"No need for that." Caleb was not that far gone. "I'll see her when the time comes."

"There's one more thing."

Camille pulled a card from her waist and placed it on the desk.

"Jayce and Mel have been preparing for their wedding lately."

At that, even Camille's lips curved into a rare smile.

"They sent me an invitation too."

"I see." Caleb nodded, then only reacted after a long pause. "Wait, they're getting married already?!"

"Yes." Camille looked at the slow-to-catch-up Caleb and nodded.

"What do you think of my grandniece?" she asked out of nowhere.

"Lucide? She's a good girl. Why?" Caleb looked baffled.

"I'm old and past my prime, it's only natural that the young and accomplished Governor Caleb wouldn't be interested in me..."

Leaning back in her chair, Camille put on such a fake, overdone look of grievance that it could not have been less sincere.

"But if you and my grandniece were to get married, then our Ferros family..."

"Stop right there!" Caleb hurriedly cut her off before she could continue with the nonsense.

"I believe in dating for love. If I meet someone I really click with, I'll go after her myself."

Of course Caleb knew exactly what she meant. But he also knew he had no intention of spending the rest of his life in the twin cities.

"So, Heimerdinger is going back to Piltover."

Caleb only thought for a moment before reaching the conclusion.

Heimerdinger was going back to serve as a councilor again.

That was the third reason Camille had come today.

"Yes." Camille nodded.

The marriage alliance between the Talis family and the Medarda family meant Jayce would be stepping away from the council stage and moving behind the scenes instead.

Still, as a scholar, Jayce did not find that outcome unacceptable.

Because of that, the council in Piltover needed a councilor who actually understood science.

It could not be nothing but profit-chasing merchants.

Camille had come this time to invite Professor Heimerdinger back.

After the enormous humiliation he had suffered last time, apologies from Jayce and the other councilors were unavoidable.

The future of the twin cities still needed that ancient yordle at the helm.
