Chapter 242 - Mine to Come Home To

Part 2: Mine to Come Home To

Some changes happen quietly.

No fights.

No chaos.

Just decisions…

That slowly change everything.

A New Routine

It started with Elara.

Simple.

Calculated.

Intentional.

Amelia got into college.

The same one Ethan attended.

At first—

It was just convenience.

But then it became something else.

Every morning—

Ethan drove them both.

Every lecture—

He showed up.

Not because he had to.

But because she was there.

And every evening—

They left together.

It became routine.

But not ordinary.

Because every glance—

Every quiet moment—

Still meant something.

The Day He Stayed Back

That morning felt… different.

Ethan leaned against the car as Amelia approached.

"…You're not coming?"

She asked.

He shook his head slightly.

"…Not today."

A pause.

"…Something to handle."

She studied him for a second.

"…You're being mysterious again."

"…You like it."

"…Maybe."

A small smirk.

Then he opened the door for her.

"…I'll pick you up."

"…You always do."

That line lingered.

Because it wasn't just a statement.

It was trust.

In the Kitchen

The house was quiet when he returned.

Too quiet.

He loosened his sleeves slowly.

Then walked straight to the kitchen.

No hesitation.

No second thought.

"…Alright."

He muttered to himself.

"…Don't mess this up."

A small exhale.

Then he got to work.

Fresh vegetables hit the board first.

Knife moving clean.

Precise.

"…She'll say it's too much."

He scoffed softly.

"…But she'll eat it anyway."

A faint smile appeared.

Then came the spices.

Rich aroma filling the air.

Garlic sizzling in hot oil.

The sound—

Sharp.

Alive.

"…You're doing too much."

He said to himself.

A pause.

"…Yeah. I know."

But he didn't stop.

He cooked like it mattered.

Like she would notice every detail.

Because she would.

A perfectly seasoned grilled chicken.

Golden.

Juicy.

Creamy pasta on the side.

Rich.

Smooth.

And a light sauce—

Balanced.

Carefully made.

"…If she doesn't like this…"

He shook his head slightly.

"…Then I'm done."

But his lips curved.

Because he knew—

She would.

Time to Get Her

He checked his wristwatch.

"…Yeah."

A small nod.

"…It's time."

He wiped his hands.

Grabbed his keys.

And left.

The Moment He Didn't Expect

The college grounds buzzed with life.

Students moving.

Talking.

Laughing.

Then—

He saw her.

Amelia.

Standing there.

With someone else.

A boy.

They were talking.

Laughing.

Close.

Too close.

Something tightened in his chest.

Sharp.

Unfamiliar.

But real.

He didn't hesitate.

He walked straight toward them.

No smile.

No warmth.

Just presence.

Amelia noticed him immediately.

"…Etha—"

Before she could finish—

His hand caught her wrist.

Not harsh.

But firm.

"…We're leaving."

No explanation.

No greeting.

Just that.

In the Car

The silence was thick.

Heavy.

"…What was that for?"

Amelia finally asked.

Ethan's hands tightened slightly on the wheel.

"…Who is he?"

She blinked.

"…What?"

"…The guy."

A pause.

She stared at him.

Then—

"…His name is Kelvin."

Simple.

"…He's a friend."

Silence.

Then—

Her lips curved slightly.

She leaned a little closer.

"…Are you jealous?"

He scoffed lightly.

"…No."

"…You are."

"…I'm not."

She smiled.

Soft.

Knowing.

Then—

She reached for him.

And kissed him.

Quick.

But enough.

"…You're jealous."

She whispered.

He didn't answer.

But his silence said everything.

Dinner for Her

Back home—

Amelia went to freshen up.

And Ethan…

Prepared everything.

Carefully.

Then carried it to her room.

When she opened the door—

She froze.

"…You did this?"

Her eyes lit up instantly.

"…Maybe."

"…Ethan…"

She stepped in.

Looking at the food like it was something rare.

"…This looks amazing."

"…It is."

She laughed softly.

"…You're unbelievable."

"…Eat first. Compliment later."

She sat down quickly.

Took a bite.

Then paused.

"…Wow."

She looked at him again.

"…This is actually really good."

"…Actually?"

"…Okay—it's very good."

He smirked slightly.

"…I know."

She shook her head.

"…Thank you."

Her voice softer now.

More real.

"…You didn't have to do all this."

"…I wanted to."

That answer—

It hit differently.

She stood up slowly.

Walked toward him.

"…Come here."

He didn't resist.

Didn't question it.

She pulled him slightly—

And kissed him again.

This time—

Longer.

Warmer.

More certain.

When they pulled apart—

She rested her forehead lightly against his.

"…I like this."

A small pause.

"…Us."

Ethan's hand moved to her waist.

Holding her there.

"…Yeah."

"…Me too."

End Scene — Mine to Come Home To

It wasn't just food.

It wasn't just jealousy.

It wasn't just a kiss.

It was something deeper.

Something growing.

Something real.

Because no matter what happened outside—

At the end of the day…

She came back to him.

And he made sure—

She always had a reason to stay.

To be continued…
