Part 2 Almost
Freedom felt… strange.
After days of white walls…
Beeping machines…
And forced stillness…
Walking out of the hospital felt unreal.
A Breath of Normal
Amelia stepped outside slowly.
The sunlight hit her face.
Warm.
Alive.
Real.
She paused for a second—
Just taking it in.
"…Missed this?"
A familiar voice called out.
She didn't even need to turn.
"…You again."
Her tone dry.
Ethan leaned against the car.
Casual.
Like nothing had happened.
But his eyes—
They said everything.
Relief.
Softness.
Something deeper.
"…Who else?"
He smirked slightly.
"…You think I'd let someone else pick you up?"
She rolled her eyes lightly.
"…I was hoping."
"…Liar."
A small pause.
Then—
He opened the car door for her.
"…Get in."
And for once—
She didn't argue.
The Drive
The car moved smoothly through the streets.
Quiet at first.
Comfortable…
But not really.
Because something was there.
Unspoken.
"…So…"
Ethan started.
"…You almost died."
She turned slowly.
"…That's your opening line?"
He shrugged.
"…Just stating facts."
She faced forward again.
"…You talk too much."
"…And you missed it."
She didn't respond.
But the corner of her lips—
Almost moved.
He noticed.
Of course he did.
"…You smiled."
"…I didn't."
"…You did."
"…Focus on the road."
He chuckled softly.
But didn't push further.
Not yet.
Red Light
The car slowed.
Then stopped.
Traffic light.
Red.
Stillness filled the car again.
But this time—
It felt different.
Closer.
Quieter.
Ethan glanced at her.
She was already looking at him.
And just like that—
Everything else faded.
The noise outside.
The passing cars.
Gone.
Just them.
Her eyes—
Soft.
But searching.
His—
Steady.
Drawn in.
Neither looked away.
Not this time.
A slow breath.
Then—
He leaned closer.
Not rushed.
Not forced.
Careful.
Like he was giving her time to stop him.
But she didn't.
Her eyes dropped—
To his lips.
Then back to his eyes.
A silent permission.
Her hand shifted slightly—
Almost touching his.
So close.
Just a little more—
And then—
HONK!
A loud horn shattered the moment.
Both of them pulled back instantly.
Reality crashing in.
"Move!"
A driver behind them shouted angrily.
"The light is green!"
Ethan blinked.
Then glanced forward.
…It was green.
They had no idea when it changed.
"…Right."
He cleared his throat slightly.
Then drove forward.
Silence returned.
But now—
It wasn't the same silence.
It was heavier.
Warmer.
Charged.
Amelia looked out the window.
But her heart—
Still racing.
"…You missed."
She said quietly.
A pause.
Ethan smirked slightly.
Eyes still on the road.
"…Did I?"
A beat.
"…We'll see."
Her breath caught slightly.
And just like that—
The tension stayed.
Unfinished.
Waiting.
End Scene — Not Yet
Some moments don't end.
They pause.
They wait.
They build.
And as the car disappeared into the distance—
One thing was certain.
That moment?
It wasn't over.
Not even close.
To be continued…
