Chapter 230 - The Longest Night

Part 2: The Longest Night

Time stopped meaning anything.

Minutes felt like hours.

Hours felt like forever.

And still—

Those doors didn't open.

The Waiting Room

The hospital was quiet.

Too quiet.

The kind of silence that makes your thoughts louder.

Heavier.

Dangerous.

Ethan sat down slowly.

Then stood again.

Then paced.

Then stopped.

He couldn't stay still.

Because staying still meant thinking.

And thinking meant…

Fear.

His hands were still stained with her blood.

He hadn't even noticed.

"…Ethan."

Elara's voice was soft.

Careful.

She stepped closer.

"…You should sit."

He shook his head immediately.

"No."

His voice low.

"…If I sit… it means…"

A pause.

"…it means I'm waiting."

Silence.

And everyone understood what he meant.

Waiting…

For an answer he wasn't ready to hear.

Damian Stands Alone

Damian stood near the window.

Looking out into the dark city.

But he wasn't seeing it.

His mind was elsewhere.

Back at the house.

Back at the fight.

Back at that moment—

When he arrived…

And saw her already bleeding.

Too late.

His hand clenched slightly.

Tight.

A familiar thought creeping in.

You lost control.

You enjoyed it.

And because of that…

He exhaled slowly.

Forcing it away.

But it didn't fully leave.

It never did.

"…Damian."

Lucas stepped beside him.

"You did what you had to do."

A pause.

Damian didn't look at him.

"…And if it wasn't enough?"

Lucas didn't answer immediately.

Because this time—

There was no easy answer.

"…Then we deal with it."

Simple.

Real.

But not comforting.

A Small Voice in the Dark

Seraphina walked slowly toward Damian.

Her small steps quiet.

Careful.

She stopped beside him.

"…Daddy…"

Her voice soft.

Fragile.

He looked down immediately.

And something in him softened again.

Just slightly.

"…Yeah?"

She hesitated.

Then—

"…Is she going to be okay?"

That question again.

Simple.

But heavy.

Damian stared at her for a moment.

Then slowly—

He crouched down in front of her.

His voice quieter now.

Gentler.

"…She's strong."

A pause.

"…Stronger than she looks."

Seraphina nodded slightly.

Trusting him completely.

"…Okay."

And just like that—

She believed him.

Because to her…

Her father didn't lie.

And that trust—

It stayed with him.

Heavy.

The Door Opens

Hours passed.

Or maybe minutes.

No one knew anymore.

Then—

The doors opened.

Everyone stood instantly.

Ethan froze.

Damian turned.

Elara held Seraphina closer.

A doctor stepped out.

Mask removed.

Face serious.

And in that moment—

No one breathed.

"…She's alive."

Relief hit instantly.

Like a wave.

Strong.

Overwhelming.

Ethan nearly staggered.

His body giving out slightly.

"…But…"

That word—

It stopped everything again.

The doctor continued.

"…She lost a lot of blood."

A pause.

"…The next 24 hours are critical."

Silence.

Hope…

But not safety.

Not yet.

"…Can we see her?"

Ethan asked immediately.

His voice raw.

The doctor nodded slightly.

"One person at a time."

No hesitation.

Ethan moved first.

Of course he did.

End Scene — Not Over Yet

The door closed behind him.

And once again—

They waited.

But this time—

There was something else in the air.

Hope.

Fragile.

Uncertain.

But there.

Because she wasn't gone.

Not yet.

And as long as she was still breathing—

The fight wasn't over.

To be continued…
