Chapter 162 - Constants-as-a-Service

The temperature inside the newly annexed Astral Core dropped to a bitter, absolute zero. The scent of freezing slate and ionized copper wire hung thick in the compressed vacuum, scraping against the lungs like crushed glass. Downward from my chest-mounted perspective, my leather-gloved hands rested on a sleek, floating pane of reinforced crystal, where a cascading line graph tracked the localized processing latency of the universe's primary engine.

Beside me, Seraphina adjusted the gold clasp of her dark business suit. Her dark elf eyes remained entirely vacant of human warmth as she held her silver clipboard at a rigid, perpendicular angle.

"The structural audit of the space-time continuum is finalized, Chairman," Seraphina said, her voice cutting through the hollow drone of the server capacitors with the precision of a scalpel. "The fundamental laws of physics are currently running on an open-source, un-monetized baseline inherited from the legacy management. Thermodynamically speaking, the universe is burning through three billion energy credits per second just to maintain standard molecular cohesion."

"An un-hedged expenditure," I murmured, my jaw tightening as the leather of my gloves creaked. I picked up the gold fountain pen, tapping the platinum nib against the golden borders of the Tycoon's Ledger. "The legacy deities designed a reality that prioritizes aesthetic stability over cash velocity. Why are we subsidizing the friction of gravity for entities who haven't paid their quarterly infrastructure maintenance fees?"

"It's a massive leak in capital efficiency, Chairman," Seraphina replied, her stylus clicking against the glass screen to bring up a flashing schematic of the local planetary sectors. "The outer rings are currently consuming electromagnetic forces completely free of charge."

"Then we deprecate the open-source architecture," I stated flatly. "Reclassify the universal constants as premium proprietary software. If a dimension desires atomic cohesion, they can lease the privilege from our cloud network."

The space directly across the crystal desk did not warp with magical circles; it violently sheared along a sharp, geometric right angle. The dim starlight bleeding from the edge of the void compressed into a blinding, erratic prism.

From the center of the geometric tear, a colossal entity materialized. It was Kratos, Lord of the Strong Force—the cosmic warden tasked with binding atomic nuclei together. His form was a shifting mass of dense, overlapping iron geometry and crushing gravitational pressure that caused the marble floorboards near the threshold to splinter with a deafening crack.

"Victor Thorne!" Kratos roared, the sheer density of his telepathic output rattling the internal mechanisms of my watch piece. "You have foreclosed on the deities, but you cannot downsize the foundational architecture of existence! The subatomic particles of the lower realms are beginning to drift! If you throttle the strong force, every molecule across four thousand dimensions will instantly dissolve into a homogeneous radioactive soup!"

I did not lift my palms from the crystal terminal. The camera angle of my chest remained perfectly level, framing his shifting, furious iron shoulders within the crisp, clean margins of my midnight-blue corporate suit.

"Molecular dissolution," I said, my tone completely flat, matching the uncaring metric readouts on the monitor wall. "A spectacular operational failure, Mr. Kratos. However, you are looking at the disaster through the lens of standard fantasy logic. I do not see a radioactive soup. I see a massive volume of un-metered user traffic consuming my bandwidth without an active billing profile."

I opened the Tycoon's Ledger, the golden pages flaring with an absolute, hard-coded administrative script.

[ABYSSAL CLOUD: FIRMWARE UPDATE 5.1]

RESOURCE CLASSIFICATION: THE STRONG ATOMIC FORCE.

MONETIZATION MODEL: CONSTANTS-AS-A-SERVICE (CaaS).

BILLING THRESHOLD: 0.05 OMNI-CREDITS PER MOLECULAR BOND / PER HOUR.

"As of this second, the open-source license for the strong force has expired," I stated, my fountain pen fluidly signing the bottom of the system patch. "We have moved the universal constants behind an always-online digital rights management firewall. If a mortal empire wishes to prevent their atoms from flying apart into the void, their central treasury must ping our servers every ten seconds with a valid authentication token."

"You madman!" Kratos lunged forward, his iron fists compressing the air into an absolute vacuum as he attempted to strike my chest piece.

The strike never connected. Mid-leap, the geometric lines of his iron shoulders suddenly glitched, pixelating into a flat, low-polygon grey frame. The immense pressure wave he generated collapsed into an inert, silent draft of cold wind.

[WARNING: YOUR MOVEMENT CAPACITY EXCEEDS THE BASIC FREEMIUM BANDWIDTH] [TO UNLOCK HIGH-TORQUE COMBAT MOVEMENTS, PLEASE UPGRADE TO SYSTEM PRO]

"You... you paywalled my momentum?" Kratos whispered, his iron jaw locking into an awkward, asymmetrical angle as the Abyssal OS software artificially throttled his physical torque to zero.

"Authentic physical velocity is an operational luxury, Mr. Kratos," I replied coldly, adjusting the platinum link on my left sleeve without a single glance at the paralyzed god. "By attempting an unauthorized high-impact kinetic movement inside an active corporate sector, your profile has been automatically flagged for theft of service. Seraphina, bill his cosmic department a fifty percent late fee for structural wear-and-tear to our boardroom floorboards."

"The invoice has been automatically deducted from his celestial pension pool, Chairman," Seraphina murmured, her stylus making a swift, final stroke across her ledger. "The first three hundred mortal empires have already signed the CaaS agreements to keep their oceans from boiling into space. Initial recurring revenue is climbing by twelve percent per minute."

"Excellent," I said, shutting the ledger with a heavy, final thud. "Reassign Kratos to the low-frequency database infrastructure as a subatomic filing cabinet. Let's make sure our data density is completely optimized before the afternoon market opens."
