Chapter 53 - Asset Stripping

[The Golden Gates Dungeon - First Floor]

The tacky, blinding neon signs that once read "100% FREE ADMISSION" were currently being violently ripped from the stone walls by a team of heavily armored Orcs.

Victor Thorne walked through the grand foyer of his newly acquired subsidiary, the Golden Gates Dungeon. His midnight-blue suit remained immaculate despite the shower of sparks and falling plaster. To his left, Seraphina tracked the demolition on her silver clipboard. To his right, Princess Ignis was using her hellfire to melt down a solid gold statue of the former CEO, Balthazar Greed.

"Melt it down to the foundation, shareholders!" Lord Sterling shouted from the balcony, his vampire fangs gleaming as he directed the Abyssal Repo Team. "Pry the mythril out of the floorboards! Leave nothing but dirt!"

From the corner of the ruined foyer, a trembling lesser demon in a cheap suit crawled forward. It was Balthazar's former Chief Financial Officer.

"P-Principal Thorne!" the CFO whimpered, clutching a stack of burning ledger pages. "Please! We surrender! You own the company now. Let me manage this branch for you! We can rebuild the Pay-To-Win traps!"

Victor stopped, his leather shoes crunching on broken glass. He looked down at the pathetic demon, pulling his gold pocket watch from his vest.

"Manage this branch?" Victor asked smoothly. "You misunderstand the nature of this acquisition. I am not running a second dungeon. Operating two identical businesses in the same geographic region cannibalizes my own market share and doubles my operational overhead."

Victor gestured with his gold-nibbed pen as an Orc walked past, carrying a massive sack of stolen healing potions.

"I bought this company solely to eliminate the competition and liquidate its physical assets," Victor explained, his Tycoon's Aura pressing down on the terrified CFO. "It is called Asset Stripping. The gold melted from these walls will be transferred to our offshore account in the Shattered Void. The real estate will be leveled to create a parking lot for my Paladin employees."

"You're... you're destroying a perfectly good dungeon just for the scrap metal?!" the CFO gasped, his mind breaking at the sheer ruthless efficiency of it.

"I am maximizing shareholder value," Victor corrected him coldly. He turned to Seraphina. "What was this demon's Customer Acquisition Cost metric before the buyout?"

"Catastrophic, Principal Thorne," Seraphina smirked. "He approved the expenditure of five hundred Million Gold on our bot traffic. Absolute financial incompetence."

"Severance denied," Victor slashed his pen across the Tycoon's Ledger. "You are officially liquidated. Ignis, throw him in the crystal mines with the Elves."

Ignis grinned, grabbing the screaming CFO by the collar of his cheap suit and dragging him toward a Pantheon Prime portal.

By noon, the Golden Gates Dungeon had been completely erased from the map, leaving the Abyssal Academy standing alone once more as the absolute, uncontested monopoly of the continent.
