Chapter 174: Nightmare of the Old Village, the Twins Incident
Boom!
Violent waves of Cursed Energy erupted into the night sky above Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Black remnants swirled into a tangible gale, forcing the surrounding trees to bend beneath the pressure.
Suguru Geto stood at the center of the training ground with bloodshot eyes, looking like a demon that had crawled out of hell.
Behind him, a massive Special Grade Cursed Spirit slowly emerged from the shadows. Its suffocating presence spread across the school grounds as it released a deafening roar.
"Suguru, what are you planning to do?"
A lazy voice sounded from above, carrying an unmistakable pressure.
Satoru Gojo hovered in front of Geto with both hands in his pockets.
His sunglasses had slipped down slightly, revealing the limitless blue of the Six Eyes.
"Move, Satoru."
Geto's voice was hoarse, as though his throat had been scraped raw.
"I'm going to see the higher ups."
His Cursed Energy surged again.
"I'll drag those rotting old men out of their seats one by one."
Gojo stared at him for a few seconds.
Then the corner of his mouth rose.
"That actually sounds like a good idea."
He descended to the ground and cracked his knuckles.
"They've grown far too comfortable if they think they can plot against my students."
A dangerous light appeared in his eyes.
"I was already thinking about teaching them a lesson."
For once, the two strongest Special Grade Sorcerers of their generation were in complete agreement.
They were ready to bathe the headquarters of the higher ups in blood.
Their combined killing intent was so overwhelming that Masamichi Yaga sensed it from kilometers away.
"If you want Kenjaku's conspiracy to succeed, and you want Haibara and the others to face even worse retaliation later, then go ahead."
A weak but commanding voice came from the edge of the training ground.
"Kill them all and feed their corpses to the Cursed Spirits."
Yami stood beneath a tree in a loose hospital gown.
His face was pale, and he had to lean against the trunk for support. Shiranui remained in his hand.
His body was still weak, but his dark red eyes were perfectly clear.
"Yami?"
Gojo frowned and appeared beside him in an instant.
"Why are you out here? You haven't recovered yet."
He reached out to steady him, but Yami pushed his hand away.
Geto dismissed some of his pressure and hurried over.
"Yami, stay out of this. Someone has to pay for what happened."
"They do."
Yami forced himself upright.
"But not through something this stupid."
He stared directly into Geto's eyes.
"If you charge into their headquarters and kill them now, what will you actually change?"
Geto's expression tightened.
"The higher ups are not just a handful of old men. They are part of a system that has been rotting for a thousand years."
Yami's voice remained sharp despite his weakened state.
"Kill one group of rotten oranges tonight, and another group will take their seats tomorrow."
His grip tightened around Shiranui.
"And the moment you attack them, you give them exactly what they want."
"They'll label you a traitorous Curse User. They'll use your actions to justify hunting everyone close to you."
Yami's gaze shifted toward Gojo.
"They may even force Satoru to execute you."
The words fell over Geto like freezing water.
His Cursed Energy wavered.
"Then what are we supposed to do?"
Geto's voice rose into a furious roar.
"Stand aside while they use students as cannon fodder?"
"If you truly want to protect them, then you need to become more cunning than the higher ups and more calculating than Kenjaku."
Yami drew a slow breath.
"Remember this debt."
His eyes hardened.
"Soon, I will give you a chance to overturn the entire board."
Geto stared at him.
The certainty in Yami's gaze slowly forced the madness in his eyes to recede.
He closed his eyes, his expression twisting with pain.
Then he raised one hand.
The Special Grade Cursed Spirit behind him dissolved into shadow.
A crisis that could have ignited a civil war within the Jujutsu World was suppressed before it began.
But fate was rarely satisfied with striking only once.
It always waited until a person was at their weakest before delivering the next blow.
Several days later, the higher ups issued another mission.
Suguru Geto was ordered to investigate reports of a local deity haunting an isolated village.
The briefing described the threat as an ordinary low grade Cursed Spirit.
But the moment Yami read the village's location, his pupils contracted.
He knew that place.
It was the village where Suguru Geto had finally broken in the original future.
The place where he had slaughtered one hundred and twelve villagers.
The place where he had found Nanako and Mimiko.
"Suguru cannot go alone."
Yami did not even change out of his hospital clothes.
He took Shiranui, suppressed the pain from his unhealed injuries, and followed Geto.
The remote village felt like another world compared with Tokyo.
It was isolated, impoverished, and closed off from everything beyond the surrounding mountains.
The air reeked of livestock waste and accumulated negative emotions.
When Geto entered the village, he found no rampaging Cursed Spirit.
Instead, he saw something far uglier than any curse.
In the courtyard of a dilapidated wooden house stood a large iron cage meant for livestock.
The stench coming from it was unbearable.
Inside were not wild animals.
Two thin young girls huddled in the corner.
Nanako and Mimiko.
They curled against one another like frightened kittens. Their hollow eyes held no trace of hope, as though they had already given up on the world.
A mob of villagers surrounded the cage.
They hurled stones, mud, and rotten vegetables through the bars.
"Beat those monsters to death!"
"They brought the curse here!"
"They killed the village chief!"
"Burn them! Burn those cursed children!"
Their faces were twisted with hatred.
An old woman raised her cane and thrust it through the bars.
The tip struck Mimiko's thigh hard enough to tear the skin.
Blood immediately ran down her leg.
"Aah!"
The little girl screamed.
Boom!
Something inside Suguru Geto snapped.
What was he looking at?
These were the weak people he had risked his life to protect.
The people for whom his juniors had almost died.
Yet they were capable of cruelty more revolting than anything he had seen from a Cursed Spirit.
"These monkeys…"
Geto lowered his head.
His bangs concealed his expression.
Black Cursed Energy erupted from his body like a tidal wave.
"Unforgivable."
The ground trembled beneath him.
"All of you…"
He raised his head.
There was no warmth left in his bloodshot eyes.
Only destruction.
"Unforgivable!"
His Cursed Energy exploded across the courtyard.
"Come out, Rainbow Dragon!"
A massive Cursed Spirit appeared above the village, coiling across the sky.
The pressure of a peak Grade 1 Cursed Spirit crashed down upon the villagers.
The mob collapsed in terror.
Some screamed. Others lost control of their bodies as they stared up at the monster looming overhead.
"Die."
Geto raised one hand.
"You disgusting monkeys."
Rainbow Dragon drew back, waiting for the command to slaughter every person in the village.
Then a hand wrapped in bandages reached from behind and pressed firmly against Geto's shoulder.
"Suguru."
Yami's cold, steady voice sounded beside his ear.
"Stop."
Geto's body went rigid.
He slowly turned his head.
His blood red eyes locked onto Yami, overflowing with murderous intent.
Yami did not release his shoulder.
Their pressure collided across the courtyard, freezing the air between them.
Geto stood at the final crossroads of his fate.
One command would drown the village in blood.
And the only person standing between him and that irreversible step was his closest friend.
