The Heart Beneath the Core
THOOM.
Another Restoration Pulse echoed through Aurion Citadel.
The bronze conduits blazed brighter than before, carrying life through every district.
Above ground, defenders reclaimed another section of the city.
Below...
The brothers pressed deeper into the ancient maintenance network.
Dorion led the formation with shield raised.
Lirion's black Noetic Fluid flowed ahead, mapping hidden passages and detecting unstable tunnels.
Sorion walked silently at the center, his silver equilibrium threads touching every bronze conduit they passed.
Suddenly...
The rhythmic pulse changed.
THOOM...
THOOM...
THOOM...
A fourth heartbeat answered from somewhere beneath them.
It was older.
Slower.
Far more powerful.
Aurion stopped walking.
"...Did you hear that?"
Everyone nodded.
There was another heart beneath the Machine Core.
The Hidden Descent
Master Engineer Rowan Kael examined the ancient map projected from his wrist console.
"There shouldn't be another level."
Lirion frowned.
"There isn't."
"The scans stop here."
Sorion placed his hand against the bronze floor.
Closing his eyes, he whispered,
"No..."
"The city is hiding it."
Silver light spread from his fingertips.
Ancient Orinthal glyphs emerged across the floor.
Thousands of symbols illuminated simultaneously.
Commander Varken stared in amazement.
"A concealed foundation..."
The floor slowly separated.
A circular elevator untouched for centuries rose from beneath the stone.
Its center bore the same Orion Star Crest engraved upon Thomarion's Bronze Plate.
Without a single command...
The platform activated.
It had recognized the Founder's bloodline.
Chamber Zero
The elevator descended farther than anyone expected.
Past the Machine Core.
Past the Restoration Chamber.
Past every recorded level of Aurion Citadel.
Finally...
It stopped.
The doors opened.
Silence.
The chamber before them dwarfed everything they had seen.
Bronze pillars stretched like mountains into darkness.
Ancient machinery floated unsupported by gravity.
Entire rivers of liquid bronze flowed through transparent channels suspended in midair.
At the center...
Kneeling before a massive shield...
waited the colossal bronze knight.
Nearly forty meters tall.
Covered in thousands of years of dust.
Its head remained lowered.
Its sword rested point-first upon the ground.
The inscription across its shield read:
FIRST DEFENDER OF ORINTHAL
Judgment Begins
Dorion instinctively stepped forward.
"We're here to protect the city."
Nothing happened.
Lirion approached cautiously.
"We seek the Machine Core."
Still...
Silence.
Then Sorion spoke.
"We seek to preserve what others wish to erase."
The guardian's eyes opened.
Two brilliant bronze suns ignited.
The chamber shook violently.
Ancient mechanisms awakened all around them.
A deep voice echoed through the chamber.
"FOUNDERS... NOT DETECTED."
Everyone froze.
"DESCENDANTS... DETECTED."
"SUCCESSION PROTOCOL INITIATED."
Dorion raised his weapon.
"Success—"
Before he finished—
The guardian stood.
Its movement created a shockwave that knocked everyone backward.
Massive gears rotated throughout the chamber.
Every exit sealed.
The voice continued.
"THE LEGACY OF ORINTHAL..."
"...IS NOT INHERITED."
"...IT IS EARNED."
Above the City
At the same moment—
AZRAK-9 looked toward the deepest foundations of Aurion Citadel.
Its hollow eyes narrowed.
For the first time...
Its emotionless expression changed.
Recognition.
It transmitted a single command across every corrupted machine.
"PRIORITY ONE."
"PREVENT ACTIVATION OF FIRST DEFENDER."
Across the battlefield...
Every omission construct abandoned its current targets.
Millions of crimson eyes turned toward the underground passages.
Marshal Helios Varne watched the enemy suddenly change direction.
"They're ignoring the walls!"
Commander Cassian immediately understood.
"They've discovered something below us."
Thomarion looked toward the depths beneath his feet.
His face turned pale.
"No..."
"They found Chamber Zero."
The Founder Remembers
Deep inside the Founder Hall—
an ancient holographic recording suddenly activated without warning.
The image of a much younger Thomarion appeared.
Not as an old farmer.
Not as the legendary Guild Master.
But as the young man who had first discovered Aurion Citadel.
He spoke calmly.
"If this message has awakened..."
"...then my children have reached the First Defender."
The commanders stared silently.
"The guardian is not a weapon."
"It is the final judge of Orinthal."
"It will never obey strength."
"It obeys only those who place the people before themselves."
Aurion whispered,
"He left this... for them."
The Trial of Worthiness
Back inside Chamber Zero—
The colossal guardian raised its shield.
The Orion Star Crest blazed like a miniature sun.
Instead of attacking...
Three beams of bronze light descended.
One before Dorion.
One before Lirion.
One before Sorion.
Each brother now stood within a separate circle of light.
The guardian's voice echoed throughout the chamber.
"DORION."
"STRENGTH SHALL BE TESTED."
"LIRION."
"WISDOM SHALL BE TESTED."
"SORION."
"THE HEART SHALL BE TESTED."
The circles expanded.
Reality itself distorted.
Each brother vanished into a different world.
Dorion found himself standing alone upon a battlefield where countless civilians stood behind him while an unstoppable army advanced.
Lirion appeared within an endless archive of impossible machines, each containing knowledge capable of saving—or destroying—civilization.
Sorion opened his eyes...
...inside his childhood home.
His mother smiled at him.
His father was young again.
His brothers laughed together around the dinner table.
No war.
No suffering.
No Aurion Citadel.
Only peace.
A gentle voice whispered.
"You can stay."
"No one has to remember."
Sorion quietly closed his eyes.
A single tear fell.
Then he answered,
"...If I stay..."
"...they disappear."
The illusion cracked.
Final Scene
Far above Aurion Citadel—
the bronze Restoration Pulse continued to echo.
THOOM.
THOOM.
THOOM.
But beneath the city...
another heartbeat had awakened.
The heartbeat of Orinthal's First Defender.
And the fate of humanity no longer depended on defeating the enemy...
It depended on whether three brothers could prove themselves worthy of carrying the legacy of the Founder.
