The squad that pivoted from the outer face engaged the Greyback on the parapet at close range, closer than they were ever comfortable with. That forced them to fire upward into the exposed chest where the plating ended.
"Too close, too fucking close-"
"Chest! Under the chest, aim up!"
The change worked.
The creature dropped hard onto the parapet stones. The impact shook the wall beneath their feet. One man barely threw himself clear. Another disappeared underneath it with a wet crunch of snapped bone.
"Get him out! Get him out from under it!"
Three men grabbed at the corpse's plated shoulder and hauled. Blood ran black-red across the stone beneath it. What came out from underneath was flattened from the ribs down. One leg bent the wrong way. The man's mouth moved once without sound before his head rolled sideways.
He did not stand again.
