Chapter 205 - Chapter 205: They Are Already Living Different Lives.

Chapter 205: They Are Already Living Different Lives.

The Divine Realm.

The God of Pride was lying listlessly on the roof of the Seven Deadly Sins' Temple, chin propped in his hands, peering down at the mortal realm. He'd only intended a casual glance, but that single glance made his eyes suddenly go wide.

"Huh?"

He rubbed his eyes and looked more carefully.

Down in the lower realm, how had the Great Star Dou Forest's Auspicious Beast, the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, turned into a little blonde girl? And she'd actually gone and entered that Canaan Academy of Furina's.

He narrowed his eyes and stealthily extended his divine sense over, circling it around Gu Qiuer.

Then he shifted his divine sense a little to the side, letting it fall onto another young woman with blue-pink hair—Wang Dong.

His two strands of divine sense compared them back and forth several times, and the God of Pride abruptly sat bolt upright.

"Th-this... this... 99% soul similarity?!"

He scratched his head, a little dumbfounded.

If they were blood sisters or something, that would be one thing. But one was a human, and the other was an Auspicious Beast that had lived for over ten thousand years—the difference was far too vast. Even if a soul beast took human form after shapeshifting, its soul couldn't possibly be this similar.

And on closer inspection, that Gu Qiuer's soul... was it mixed together? Half of it was a pure soul beast's soul, and the other half was...

The God of Pride shot to his feet and scrambled frantically towards the other Deadly Sin Gods.

"Hey! Hey! Everyone! I've discovered something monumental!"

He yelled at the top of his lungs, as if wanting the entire Temple of the Seven Deadly Sins to hear him.

The God of Lust was leaning against the entrance of her own temple, doing her beauty routine. Hearing that booming voice, she couldn't help but roll her eyes, reaching up to rub her ear.

"Quit your squawking, Pride." She spoke lazily. "If you've got something to say, say it. If it's nothing important, don't bother us. We have to keep a constant eye on the lower realm—look, Sloth's about to fall asleep again."

She nudged her chin towards the side.

The God of Sloth was sitting on the temple steps, her head nodding little by little, her eyes half-closed, her whole figure like a ball of soft cotton candy.

Hearing Lust call her out, she abruptly lifted her head, struggling to widen her eyes in defense. "I was absolutely not slacking off..."

Before she could finish the sentence, her eyes started narrowing again, her head drooping down bit by bit.

The other Deadly Sin Gods glanced at her, entirely unconcerned. Sloth was always like this. They were used to it.

The God of Pride ran up in front of them, put his hands on his hips, his face full of smugness.

"Alright, don't get scared now that this great one is about to speak!" He cleared his throat and announced grandly, "This great one has just discovered that Gu Qiuer, who that Auspicious Beast turned into, and Xiao Qi's reincarnation, Wang Dong, have a soul similarity of 99%!"

After he finished, he lifted his chin, waiting for a chorus of exclamations.

Instead, the other Deadly Sin Gods looked at him with expressionless faces.

The God of Envy covered her mouth and burst out laughing, a sharp laugh carrying a hint of schadenfreude. "Hahaha—dumb musclehead, is that all?"

She clutched her stomach, bent over with laughter. "We discovered that ages ago! And we already told our Sovereign!"

The God of Greed adjusted his top hat and added with a smile, "Our Sovereign instructed us to continue observing and, at the same time, to protect the two of them, and to try our best to keep them from getting together."

He added, "And now, there's an extra task: protect that Gu Qiuer."

The God of Pride was stunned.

"What? You all knew?" His eyes went wide as saucers. "Why was I the only one who didn't?!"

The God of Envy rolled her eyes and curled her lip. "Tch, whose fault is it that you're a moron? You didn't notice it yourself, and now you're blaming us for not telling you?"

The God of Pride's face reddened with anger. "Well, then you should have said something!"

The God of Envy shrugged, looking utterly innocent. "You never asked either."

The God of Greed smiled helplessly and patted Pride on the shoulder. "Alright, alright. Who told you to have such slow reactions? Besides, look at Sloth—"

He pointed at the God of Sloth next to them, who was now completely asleep.

"I dare say she definitely noticed it too, just couldn't be bothered to react."

"Haah—" The God of Sloth let out a perfectly timed yawn and rolled over to continue sleeping.

The God of Pride fumed with rage, spun around in two circles on the spot, then stopped, scratching his head.

"That aside... what do you guys actually think? What exactly is the relationship between that girl and Xiao Qi's reincarnation?"

The other gods fell silent for a moment.

The God of Greed adjusted his top hat and spoke slowly. "Don't know. And there's no need to know. Just peacefully complete our Sovereign's tasks."

He said this verbally, but he was actually very clear in his heart. But he wasn't about to tell Pride. This guy had the loosest lips of them all; if it accidentally slipped out, and Tang San's side caught wind of it, that would be trouble.

Besides, the God of Destruction knew even less right now. The newcomer hadn't said anything—was it so wrong to let Pride suffer a little grievance?

The God of Pride's shoulders slumped, and he sighed.

"Fine, fine... I thought I'd discovered something really big."

He walked back dejectedly, but stopped after two steps.

"Right, that inheritor of the Goddess of Life is advancing really fast." He looked back and said, "She's almost at Rank 70 now, right? Maybe in not too long, she'll be able to ascend to the Divine Realm."

A somewhat sour note crept into his tone. "And then look at the kid our Sovereign chose—still mucking about in the thirties now. Isn't this gap way too huge?"

The God of Greed shook his head. "That kid's talent is extraordinary. He carries the aura of death on him, and he has ultimate ice. Besides his own soul, there are three other souls residing in his body."

He pushed up his top hat, a sharp glint in his eyes. "He's just young right now. Once he matures, he'll absolutely be the most suitable candidate for our Sovereign. Even if our Sovereign doesn't take him, the Ice God, the God of Emotions, and the others will be fighting over him."

The God of Lust nodded, getting serious for once. "That's true. With his innate talent alone, he might be able to achieve godhood by himself."

"Mm."

The several gods nodded, reaching a consensus on this.

...

Inside the God of Destruction's temple.

He sat on his main seat, a screen of light suspended before him, on which the information transmitted by the God of Greed slowly scrolled.

"As expected."

After reading the last word, he waved his hand, and the screen of light dispersed.

"Tang San, oh Tang San, you really are a piece of work."

He leaned back, his fingers lightly tapping on the armrest.

"What's your next plan? To have the two of them fuse together and turn back into that Tang Wutong you want?"

He let out a cold laugh.

"But who would be the dominant one then? That Auspicious Beast who lived for over ten thousand years, or that little girl who grew up in the human world?"

He stood up and walked to the window, looking at the sea of clouds in the distance of the Divine Realm.

"That's not what's important. What's important is—"

His gaze hardened.

"With this old man here, you can forget about making them fuse."

"They've already separated. Then let them stay separate. It's fine as long as each is well."

"This old man cannot possibly hurt two living, breathing people for his own selfish desires."

"They've already..." His voice lowered. "...started living different lives."

Thanks for reading the chapter!

I started a new translation and I would be very happy if you decided to check out my new translation story. It's a crossover of Toaru and One Piece... Well, the only Toaru element here is one cute Misaka. This is all that came of my desire to translate a Toaru fanfic, but I'm not complaining—even though I've only just started reading and translating it, I'm really enjoying the story. It has plenty of slice-of-life elements, and the pacing is quite slow and detailed. It's written in a sweet, positive way—at least for now. There likely won't be any romance, as there were no tags indicating such, but I won't say for sure until I've finished reading it myself. I'd recommend it to those who aren't craving violence, carnage, or excessive cruelty. In my opinion, it's a worthwhile story, though it's definitely a matter of personal taste—especially since the protagonist is a girl, which isn't everyone's cup of tea (though it doesn't really matter for now—at least as of 30+ chapters in, Misaka is still 6 years old). Anyway, I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do.
