Chapter 55 - Invisible Wall

As Eun-soo stood in the grand lobby, maintaining her perfect poise while greeting Min-ho and Ara, the air around her felt stifling despite the high ceilings and open space.

Jin-woo, meanwhile, was struggling with a rare lapse in his usually impeccable timing.

He was getting late for the final inspection of the AGI systems that would power the virtual flames for tonight's show, his mind having spent the entire night circling back to the warmth of the pool and Eun-soo's soft expression.

He was hurrying toward the exit of the lobby, his stride purposeful and fast, when he suddenly caught a glimpse of a familiar figure standing near the grand entrance.

He became instantly stunned, his feet almost faltering as he saw Eun-soo standing beside a man who looked every bit the part of a high-society prince Kang Min-ho.

For a heartbeat, Jin-woo considered stopping, but the sight of them together looking so balanced, so symmetrical, and so right for each other acted like a physical barrier.

He didn't stop; instead, he adjusted his gaze and walked straight out the glass doors, his expression hardening as he climbed into his waiting Mercedes Sprinter.

As the vehicle began its journey toward Saebyeol Oreum, Jin-woo leaned his head against the cool window, the image of Eun-soo in the lobby burned into his retinas.

She looked entirely different today; she didn't look like the gentle kindergarten teacher or the woman who had laughed as she splashed water in the pool.

The way she was dressed—the sharp lines of her black tweed suit, the shimmering accents, and the way she carried herself—made her look like a true heiress of a powerful dynasty.

He knew she was wealthy, of course, but seeing her in that environment, surrounded by her peers, made the reality of their "world gap" feel like a physical ache.

He looked down at his own hands, then at his reflection in the tinted glass; although he was a successful CEO and undeniably wealthy, the inborn royalty he saw in Min-ho was missing from him.

He had reached where he was today through sheer grit, sweat, and thousands of hours of coding—he was a man of effort, not an aristocrat of blood.

Maybe what I thought about Miss Eun-soo is wrong, Jin-woo thought to himself, the cold logic of a programmer beginning to overwrite the warmth of his heart.

Maybe she doesn't like me in that way at all; maybe she simply wanted to be friendly because we were in a relaxed environment like the beach.

He felt like a fool for misinterpreting her kindness for something deeper, for thinking that someone like her could truly find a permanent place beside someone like him.

Without even realizing it, Jin-woo had begun to call her "Miss Eun-soo" in his thoughts again, the intimate "Eun-soo" from the previous night feeling like a title he was no longer allowed to use.

An invisible wall, cold and thick as ice, had officially been created between them before the first firework had even been moved into place.

By the time Jin-woo reached the Jeju festival area, his professional mask was fully back on, his emotions locked away behind a firewall of technical data.

He stepped out of the car into the bright afternoon sun and immediately began the final inspection with his lead engineer and team.

Jung Seung-ho approached him, holding a tablet with the final schematics. "Boss, everything is ready; the virtual flame sensors are calibrated."

"We've also secured all the final permits from the Jeju administration for the high-altitude shells; we are ready for tonight's show," Seung-ho added.

Jin-woo nodded, his voice clipped and efficient as he dived into the work, using the complexity of the AGI code to drown out the memory of the lobby.

On the other side of the island, Eun-soo had no idea that Jin-woo had seen her, or that he had been late for his work because of his thoughts of her.

She remained focused on her duty, leading Min-ho and Ara on a personal tour of the Hidden Cliff's most exclusive amenities.

She explained the history of the architecture and the philosophy of their service with the practiced ease of a Director, her professional mask never slipping.

As they walked along the lush garden paths and through the sun-drenched galleries, Ara and Eun-soo began to find a surprising rhythm in their conversation.

They realized they had much to discuss, sharing the unique experience of being women who pursued creative outlets music and acting while their brothers were consumed by the family business.

Ara leaned in closer to Eun-soo as they walked, her celebrity persona softening into something more genuine and mischievous.

She began to tell Eun-soo awkward stories about Min-ho's childhood, things the prestigious heir would never have shared himself.

"You wouldn't believe it, Eun-soo, but he used to be so afraid of other children," Ara laughed, glancing back at her brother.

"He was such a 'mommy's boy'; he used to follow our mother everywhere, holding onto her skirt like his life depended on it!"

Min-ho groaned, his face flushing slightly as he retorted, "Ara, that's enough. I was five years old; I think I'm allowed a little hesitation back then."

"He wasn't just hesitant," Ara teased, "he was convinced the gardener's dog was a mythical beast sent to eat him."

Eun-soo found herself smiling, a real, lighthearted laugh finally breaking through the tension that had gripped her since waking up.

Looking at Min-ho's flustered but good-natured reaction, she thought that perhaps her brother was right—becoming friends first wasn't a bad idea at all.

Min-ho was comfortable, he was safe, and he clearly cared for his sister; he was a man who fit perfectly into the life she was expected to lead.

The afternoon arrived quickly as they roamed the hotel grounds, the tropical heat making the idea of a cool lunch very appealing.

They shared a quick, elegant meal at the hotel's signature restaurant, the conversation flowing easily between the three of them.

As the meal concluded, Eun-soo walked them back to the elevators, her duty for the morning finally coming to an end.

"Please, go and get some rest," Eun-soo said politely. "The evening festival will be long, and I want you both to be at your best for the show."

Min-ho smiled warmly at her. "Thank you, Eun-soo. This has been the most pleasant morning I've had in a long time."

As the elevator doors closed and she was left alone in the hallway.
