Chapter 8 - Step Five, New Morning

The first thing I felt when I woke up… was warmth.

I didn't open my eyes immediately.

I stayed there for a few seconds, half-buried in the sleeping bag, letting that simple fact settle in.

Slowly, I opened one eye.

Light filtered softly through the tent fabric, golden and calm. No violent wind. No screaming. No falling from the sky.

Just morning.

"…Huh."

I blinked a few times, then stretched slightly—

—and something shifted.

I turned my head.

Exe.

Floating quietly beside me, his ribbon loosely wrapped around my forearm like it had been there all night.

"…Oh."

A pause.

"Scree."

"…Yeah, yeah. Good morning to you too."

I relaxed back into the pillow.

Honedge was resting where I'd left it yesterday.

"…Huh."

I stared at him for a moment.

(…It's like I can… feel it a bit.)

Just… presence.

Like standing next to someone in the dark and knowing exactly where they are without touching them.

A pause.

"…Weird."

I frowned slightly—

Then shrugged it off.

"…Probably just slept better."

Sleeping fixes everything.

Totally normal.

I let my head fall back again, staring at the ceiling of the tent.

(I felt… steadier, not stronger, but seriously less… disconnected.)

I slowly sat up, rubbing my eyes with my free hand.

"Alright…"

My voice was still a little rough.

(Seem to sound very feminine, now that I think of it.)

(…Well better do a check while I can.)

I looked down at myself.

No injuries.

No acid burns.

No missing limbs.

"…Still a femboy."

"Scree?" ( •~• )?

"…Don't question it."

I stretched again, this time more fully—

—and for a split second, something slipped.

My arm moved through the motion—

—but the resistance wasn't right.

Too light.

Too smooth.

Like the air hadn't pushed back at all.

"…Hm?"

I paused mid-stretch.

Then finished it normally.

"…Okay, that felt off."

I flexed my fingers.

Everything looked normal.

Felt normal.

Mostly.

"…Probably just stiff, but I remember it."

I clenched my fist lightly.

"…Still weak though."

A small sigh escaped me.

But not a frustrated one.

Just… acknowledgment.

"…We'll fix that, I still have that brace for that right?"

I glanced at Exe.

"…Right?"

"Scree!" ✨

"…Good. Glad we agree."

I pushed myself out of the sleeping bag and stepped outside the tent.

Fresh air hit my face immediately.

"…Okay."

I took a deep breath.

…and again—

That subtle awareness spread outward.

Exe's presence, right beside me.

Honedge, behind.

Both… distinct.

"…Yeah, I definitely feel better today."

The camp was exactly as before I slept.

(…The reduced to embers, tools neatly placed and no signs of intrusion.)

Exe floated out behind me, immediately rising slightly higher—scanning.

"…You're really taking that guard role seriously, huh."

"Scree."

"…Good. Keep doing that."

I rolled my shoulders once—

—and again, that slight… slip.

"…Yeah, that's really not normal."

I glanced toward the horizon.

The plain stretched out quietly, morning light brushing over the grass.

"…Yesterday was trying to kill me every five minutes—" And I crossed my arms"—There's no way today is just going to be 'nice walk simulator.'"

"Scree~"

"…maybe, but I don't think so,

"…Inventory."

—PING—

═════════[ INVENTORY ]══════════

[Smoke Ball ×3]

[Honey Gather (Ability)]

[Mysterious Egg]

[Poke Ball ×5]

═══════════════════════════

My gaze locked instantly.

"…Right."

I crouched slightly.

"…Let's check that before something else tries to eat me today."

I selected it.

A smooth weight appeared in my free hands.

"Ahhh….it always surprises me wherever something like that pops up from nowhere."

I take a look at the egg.

(…Well the egg itself is modest in size, easily fitting in my two hands.)

I pat the shell of the egg with my hand.

(Its shell is really smooth, but not perfectly glossy like I thought.)

(The slightly matte texture that feels sturdy rather than fragile.)

I shifted my grip and took a step forward.

Then another.

Then—

ping

I froze.

"…Wait."

A faint warmth spread through my hands, and the egg gave a tiny shake.

Exe immediately perked up.

"Scree?!"

I frowned slightly.

"…It really like… in the games."

Another step.

The egg shook again.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

I took a few slow steps forward, eyes glued to it.

"…Alright, let's test something."

One Step.

—Shake—

Another Step.

—Slake—

"…So it really need me to walk to hatch."

"Scree?" Exe

"….Hmm, nothing it just—" I take a little pause to think for a good word to emphasise that situation"—really immersive."

( I don't know the number of steps needed for that Pokémon, but it better be interesting.)

And after I begin a little walk around the camp, something begins to change with the egg.

The egg begins to shake harder now, almost jumping in my hands.

"Alright, alright—uh— It be okay if I put it down right?"

—CRACK—

"—Yes, it surely will be better!"

I crouched and gently set the egg on the ground.

Exe hovered just above it, vibrating with excitement.

The shell now had faint glowing lines across it—soft, pulsing.

Exe floated much more closer, to watch the little miracles upfront.

"Screee!!"

"Yes, I know, but what Pokémon it will be is more exciting."

Suddenly the shell split wider—

Light flared making me almost blind for a moment—

(That a lot more luminous than expected—)

—CRACK—

The top burst open.

Something pushed through—

With a big head and tiny claws gripping the broken shell.

I blinked, really surprised about the current Pokemon in front of me.

(….Wait….no way.)

I doesn't even need a second to quickly identify that Pokemon.

"…Tyrunt?"

Picture:

(…One the sole The T-Rex Pokemon.)

And even before I can take a closer look at him, the tiny Rex flew past me at a surprising speed and begin to spin around me.

"—WOAH—"

And while he was running fell in a random stone in the ground, for a moment after be—

Rolled—

Then he immediately jumped up.

"Raaah!!"

"…Oh."

I blinked.

"…You didn't waste time."

The newborn Tyrunt stood there for exactly half a second—

Then sprinted again straight at the nearby rock where me and Exe bury the remains of the frog.

(What he gonna do right now?)

—CHOMP—

"…WTF—"

Surprisingly he just bit the rock.

HE BIT THE ROCK!!!!

And it was really a strong bite, I even hear a clear "chomp" in the moment.

There not even a second after, I hear another a dull clack sound.

And meanwhile Tyrunt pause in front of the rock after the first chew.

(…No yay he really—"

—CHOMP—

"—he really did it."

I looked at him chewing the rock like a dog with a bone.

Then—

"Raa!"

He begins to roar ( if I can call this a roar ) at the rock with a ….offended look?

(….Is he really looks offended right now or it only me to getting some idea.)

With that in mind, I proceed to ask that question to Exe, but even him don't know what to say.

"….Scree?!"

"Yeah, I really don't know what to think."

Then he proceed to immediately turn his head—

And look at a small tree nearby—

And charged it.

"—No, no, don't—"

—-CHOMP—

It latched onto the bark like it had a personal vendetta.

Tiny jaws clamped down.

Whole body shaking with effort.

"…He just born five seconds ago, where did all that energy come from?"

It growled at the tree.

Obviously the tree did not respond.

Which I think is pretty normal, right ?

But it seems he doesn't know that and proceed to bite it looking offended.

But eventually he let it go and then—

Spun—

And locked onto me.

"…Oh no."

Way too fast for something that size, and before I can make any movement, he was already in front of me.

"—Hey, don't you—"

—CHOMP—

"—AAAARRRHHHHhhhhh…..?"

(…..It not hurt, no it hurts but not that much ?)

"…Ow?!"

It bit my arm indeed but not hard enough to break my skin, which is appreciated.

But definitely hard enough to be felt.

"Scree!!!"

Even Exe don't like the idea that my arm was gotten bitten.

"—I'm fine—Exe I'm fine—don't attack him right now."

Tyrunt held on for a second like it was testing durability—

Then let go.

Paused.

Tilted its head toward me like I was his adviser for his life choice.

"…You good now?"

"Raa?"

"…Why, you don't like my taste like or it not like you think I'll be?"

He blinked at my proposal—

And then proceed to immediately bit my sleeve.

—CHOMP—

(Aaahhhh, it all my fault now.)

"—Okay, calm down mini dino."

I gently proceed to lift him after he let go my sleeve.

(I better thought him about sensibility before it escalate to "let's me try his bone density".)

"Alright, listen mini dino."

He wiggled in my grip, jaws snapping at the air.

"Raa! Raa!"

"—No, you're not biting everything you see."

It leaned forward and tried to bite my hand.

I pulled it back just in time.

"…Correction—you're don't need to to bite everything."

(I'm already glad he didn't try to bite the camp.)

"Scree…"

Exe hovered nearby, very clearly judging me like I was the instigator of all the situation.

"Hey!!, don't look at me like that, I didn't raise it, it came out like this."

Tyrunt twisted again—

Spotted a small stone near my foot—

And lunged out of my grip.

"—Hey—!"

It hit the ground—

Immediately—

—CHOMP—

"…You're unbelievable."

It chewed.

Stopped.

He spat nothing.

Because there was nothing to spit.

Then roared again.

"Raa!"

"…You're fighting the concept of hardness."

Behind me, Honedge gave a faint metallic hum.

"…Yeah, then I'm pretty sure you're next on the bite list, I guarantee it."

As if on cue—

Tyrunt turned—

Eyes locked on Honedge—

"…Well, well, well it seems that I have reason."

"Scree?!"

I smoothly make space between me and Exe.

"You'll better move."

Obviously it's was too late.

Tyrunt charged.

"Raaah!"

—CLINK—

Exe proceeds to smack Tyrunt while still be in his scabbard.

The head of Tyrunt get hit by Exe.

Paused.

His tiny body wobbled once… twice…

Then—

"KYAAAHHH—!!"

The fierce little dinosaur instantly shattered into a full-blown crying mess, tears bursting out as he spun around and bolted straight toward me.

"Hey—whoa—!"

I barely had time to react before Tyrunt launched himself upward, claws grabbing desperately as he buried his face into my chest, sobbing like the world had just ended.

"Ruuuun! Ruuuuntyr—!!" (incoherent crying noises)

I blinked, stunned… then let out a short breath, catching the trembling baby Pokémon in his arms.

(Well, he still a baby right?)

"…Okay. Okay, I got you."

Tyrunt clung tighter, sniffling loudly, his whole body shaking as he tried—and failed—to look dignified through the tears.

(He looked much more cute, but I don't think it be a good idea to tell him that.)

Behind us, Exe floated calmly, steady, as if nothing unusual had just happened.

I glanced at him.

Then back at the crying Tyrunt.

Then back at Exe.

"…You know," i muttered, gently patting Tyrunt's head, "I'm starting to think you might be a bad Pokémon."

Exe gave me a faint metallic hum—almost like a quiet, unapologetic ting.

Tyrunt sniffed, peeking just enough to glare weakly past my shoulder.

"Rrrr…" (offended baby noises)

"Yeah, yeah, I saw that," Noah continued, rubbing behind Tyrunt's head to calm him down. "Unprovoked head-smashing. Very questionable behavior."

Another soft ting from Exe. Completely unbothered.

Tyrunt huffed, then immediately whimpered again, pushing his face back into me like he had just remembered the trauma.

"…Alright, alright," Noah sighed, a small smile slipping through despite himself.

"You're fine. Big scary warrior, right?"

Tyrunt sniffled.

A pause.

"…Raa…"

"…Yeah. Sure you are."

I crouched and caught it before it could go for round two on my leg.

Tyrunt's sniffles didn't stop immediately.

They faded slowly—like a storm reluctant to leave—replaced by occasional hiccups as he stayed curled against I , small claws still gripping fabric just a little too tightly.

I adjusted his hold, one hand supporting him, the other gently rubbing behind his head.

"…Alright," he said quietly, once Tyrunt's breathing steadied. "We need to talk."

Tyrunt peeked up.

Red, watery eyes. Slight pout. Pride in ruins.

"…Raa?"

"Yeah. A talk." I shifted him slightly so they were face to face. "If you're gonna stick with me, there are rules."

That seemed to catch his attention.

Tyrunt straightened—just a little—trying to look serious despite the tear tracks still on his face.

Noah raised a finger.

"Rule number one: don't charge into danger without thinking."

Tyrunt blinked.

"…Raa?"

"I know, I know," I sighed, "you want to fight. You're strong, you've got guts… but you're also a bit tiny right now."

I tapped Tyrunt lightly on the forehead. "That matters."

A small, offended huff.

"Rule number two: if something looks stronger than you—way stronger—you come back to me first. No hero charges. Got it?"

Tyrunt hesitated.

"It's not that I don't want you to fight, it be completely the opposite, but that doesn't mean that you should jumping out everything that looks strong or strange."

Then slowly nodded.

"…Raa."

"Good."

My tone softened. "And rule number three…"

I paused, glancing briefly at Exe floating nearby.

"…we don't start fights with our own team, except for a match or in my care."

A faint metallic ting echoed in response.

I shot him a look.

"I'm serious."

Exe didn't move.

Tyrunt, however, immediately pointed a tiny claw at the sword and let out an accusing sound.

"Raaah!"

"Yeah, I saw," I muttered. "You're both on thin ice."

That seemed to satisfy him—slightly.

The tension eased.

Tyrunt relaxed again in my arms, though this time without the panic. Just… lingering pride damage.

I exhaled, then smiled faintly.

"…Alright. One more thing."

Tyrunt looked up again.

"You need a name."

That got a reaction.

A real one.

His eyes lit up—wide, curious, expectant.

"…Raa?"

I tilted his head, studying him for a moment.

The stubbornness.

The courage.

The way he still puffed himself up despite everything.

"…You've got spirit," I said.

Tyrunt puffed his chest again instinctively.

"Too much, maybe."

I chuckled.

"…Alright. How about Rex?"

Tyrunt froze.

Then—

Then his whole body perked up.

"…Raa!"

"Yeah?" Noah smiled a bit wider. "You like that?"

A proud little stomp this time—much more confident than before.

"Raa!"

"Alright then. Rex it is."

The name settled quickly, like it had always belonged to him.

Rex.

(He seemed a bit more taller already.)

I let out a quiet breath, then one idea comes to my mind.

"…Good timing, actually."

I take out a PokeBall and proceed to catch Rex, and immediately take him out.

"…Rahhh???"

" It nothing important, I have something for you."

With one hand still holding Rex, I reached into a closet and pulled out what i kept from yesterday—a chunk of frog meat , a bit rough but still usable.

"Here."

Rex's nose twitched instantly.

His eyes locked onto the food like a cat with his weed.

"…Raa."

Noah raised an eyebrow. "So the crying's over, huh?"

With no hesitation, Rex leaned forward, mouth already open.

"…Yeah, figured."

I laughed softly and handed it over.

Rex grabbed it with both tiny claws and started eating with surprising intensity, small growls of satisfaction replacing every trace of earlier tears.

(He really something else.)

Behind them, Exe hovered silently.

I glanced at him in the back once again.

"…Alright come here." I said flatly.

A quiet, joyful ting answered me.

And he wrap his a blue cloth around that my arm with ease.

Meanwhile Rex didn't even look up.

(…Well it seems he gets his priorities straight, I better check his status in the meantime.)

═════════════════════════════════════════════════════

"….No way." I look at Rex while he still devours the frog meat with a really strong amazement.

(..So you tell me that he knows Ancient Powers but he didn't know a single bite moves?) I was really speechless at the current move sets of Rex.

But a little thought about the situation makes me feel a bit better about it.

(Well he still a baby so far, I think that's he might know some move pretty quickly, and having Ancient Powers is already a good start.)

After a moment,Rex finished the last of the frog meat with a satisfied little growl, licking at his claws like he hadn't just declared war on every solid object in existence ten minutes earlier.

Exe hovered close, calm as ever, his ribbon loosely wrapped around my arm again.

I exhaled softly, glancing once around the camp.

"…Alright," I muttered. "We need to move now, we not staying here any longer."

Then I proceed to clean all over the place, back up the camping gear and set the lasting trash in the last shade of fire.

Within minutes, all the place was clean.

And I look in the plains stretched ahead, wide and open, the grass brushing lightly against my legs.

The sky stayed clear. Too clear.

Rex trotted around me—until he didn't and decide to chomp the grass.

"Rex—don't—"

—CHOMP—

"…That's dirt."

"….Raa."

"Yeah, wi'll talk about that behaviour after."

Exe floated slightly above me, scanning in slow arcs, far more consistent than the newly hatched disaster on legs.

"Thanks Exe, for all your work."

"Sceee!!"( ^ ~^)

"Well, now that we are going?"

—THREE DAYS LATER—

Well, hello there, it been almost three days that we move out at the search for a settlement, and in the meantime we encounter pretty much a huge panel of monster.

There are the notorious frog that appears from time and time, some goblin and kobold that were a match for the current Rex, but finally even them were small prey for us now.

Exe learn two new moves and Rex finally learns to use Bite which really changes how he begins to fight.

But all of that is not important right now, I can always show you that later, because we finally find it.

What do we find you might through, well a settlement pardi.

And not any settlement, a huge town, with the mural and all the stuff like in the old castle.

But you know what, I'm not really sure but I think that this town is not really a good place.

Well to be precise it not the town the problem but actually the aura around it. It was what I thought at first seeing much closer the town. Then a idea pop in my mind.

(Is that the infamous town.)

But I quickly dismiss that idea because it be absurd.

—BBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM—

But it was the enormous mushroom in the right side of the town that made up my mind and accessories give the shit out of Rex who looks at the sky like he is having a PTSD.

"….Axel, The Beginner Town."

And I proceed to put my knee in the ground and pray for the lord for all the future absurdity that I will begin to face.

"…Oh my Arceus, give me the strength to endure the future hardship I will pear."

Immediately after a mighty, calm and steady voice came back before me and answered at my plead.

"Indeed my child, I shall assist you to the very best of my capacity, with earnest devotion and genuine concern for your well-being and your Pokémon."

Ah, also I forget to tell you, something not so important.

I have now a God.

—END—

———————————————————-

Well it where the chapter ends, with some important details that I needed to tell you guys.

-Firstly, I completely stop the current production of my other fics for a while.

There will be some chapters from there and there but I don't think I can continue this with my current situation.🫠

-Secondly, the chapter drops will fall down from 2-3 chapters a week to 1 a week.

I don't make fic for money and I don't think it will even work if I do it, so I just post what pass through my mind and post it, and strangely it seems to pleases some people (spaceharmer 👋 ). So I think I'll continue to write a little bit less, but still continue.

And finally, the reason of all the changes. I think that the majority of all my readers know but I'm a high school student, if you didn't know, now you know.

And lastly my grade are really poor, well pretty much a abyss and lastly even my last quarterly average touch the bottom of the class and now I'm in risk of repeating again my grade.

And with my parents it a HUGE NO so now, my phone ( where I usually write) is grounded so I write this line in the school computer.

I know that right now I'd better stick to my books, but we all know that it's pretty impossible for me right now.

Recently I think I can get back my phone but, well it will not change my current situation.

So unless a super shadow hacker saves me by hacking school data or I make sure I have at least 15/20 for final grade, or some chinesse cultivator help me cultivat my mind, well the chapter rate will be low.

And in a much more light taste, I have through of some problems of balancing, and Megumi is really a huge problem, because I cut the power system into tree, the falma, the adventurer card, and another secret 🤫. So we all know that Megumi can all tap most of the monsters in danmachi except I think the floor boss or the one eyed dragon. But there the problem, the mana potion.

And don't even get me begin with the god, Aqua and Eris are really some headache giver. One can resurrect and the others can go to heaven and casually shiny hunting treasure in earth to next day. So I need help in that regard.

And lastly for Arceus be a god I don't think to much about it, but there a fan game called Pokemon Relict and just check this out.

Picture

It all in have to say right and so at the next time.

And also for my snake lovers, there will be a grass snake in that fic.
