Part 1
Rose woke before the alarm.
Her eyes remained fixed on the ceiling above her as she lay there silently, her expression blank, distant.
For a long moment, she didn't move.
The room felt strangely cold.
Not physically—
emotionally.
Like something unseen had settled over the cabin during the night.
⸻
Slowly, Rose sat up.
A quiet ache immediately spread through her chest.
Not pain.
Not exactly.
Just… heaviness.
The kind that never fully left anymore.
⸻
Training.
Another day.
Another attempt to pretend everything inside her was still normal.
⸻
Rose rubbed her eyes briefly before standing.
The cabin remained silent as she prepared herself for the morning. She tied her hair back slowly, her movements automatic, practiced.
But her thoughts were elsewhere.
Fragments of dreams still clung to her mind.
Dark whispers.
Golden light.
A crown glowing in endless darkness.
⸻
And eyes.
Watching her.
Always watching.
⸻
Rose inhaled quietly and pushed the thoughts away.
Then she stepped outside.
⸻
…and froze.
⸻
Marina stood directly in front of the cabin.
Behind her stood four elders dressed in ceremonial robes trimmed with ancient symbols. Seven guardians stood at attention nearby, their expressions unreadable.
And behind them—
villagers.
Dozens of them.
Watching silently.
⸻
Rose's heartbeat slowed.
For one brief, painful moment—
she thought they had come to cast her out of the village.
⸻
No one smiled.
No one greeted her.
The entire atmosphere felt heavy.
Uneasy.
Like the whole village was holding its breath.
⸻
Rose instinctively took a small step back.
The movement was subtle.
But Marina noticed.
⸻
The village chief stepped forward first.
"Good morning, Rose."
Her voice was calm as always.
Gentle.
Steady.
⸻
Rose nodded once.
"…Good morning."
Even to her own ears, her voice sounded distant.
Guarded.
⸻
Her eyes moved briefly across the crowd.
Some villagers looked worried.
Others refused to meet her gaze entirely.
A few stared at her with open fear.
That hurt more than she expected.
⸻
Rose looked back at Marina.
"What's going on?"
⸻
For a moment, Marina said nothing.
She simply studied Rose carefully.
Watching her expression.
Watching the exhaustion hiding behind her eyes.
Then slowly—
Marina stepped closer and gently took her hand.
⸻
"Rose," she said softly, "what I am about to ask of you will not be easy."
The concern in her voice immediately made Rose's stomach tighten.
⸻
"You are like a daughter to me," Marina continued quietly.
"And because of that… I cannot ignore what is happening to you."
Rose lowered her gaze slightly.
The whispers inside her mind suddenly felt louder.
⸻
"There are changes within you," Marina said carefully.
"Changes none of us fully understand yet."
A soft wind moved through the village.
The guardians behind Marina remained perfectly still.
Watching.
Prepared.
⸻
Rose felt it immediately.
Something was wrong.
Not just with her—
with this entire moment.
⸻
Marina tightened her hold on Rose's hand gently.
"We must witness the beginning of this change before it grows beyond your control."
⸻
Rose's fingers curled faintly at her side.
Fear stirred deep inside her chest.
Small.
Quiet.
But real.
⸻
"It is time to begin the trial."
⸻
Silence followed.
Heavy and suffocating.
⸻
Rose looked past Marina toward the villagers again.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody objected.
That somehow made it worse.
⸻
Part of her wanted to refuse.
Part of her wanted to ask questions.
But another part—
the darker part—
wanted to know what was happening to her.
Wanted answers.
⸻
Rose inhaled slowly.
"I don't fully understand what's happening to me," she admitted softly.
Then she lifted her eyes toward Marina.
"But I trust you."
A pause.
"And I'll do whatever it takes to make sure my family doesn't get hurt."
⸻
Something flickered across Marina's face then.
Pride.
Sadness.
Fear.
Perhaps all three.
⸻
Without another word, the procession began moving.
⸻
As they walked through the village, the crowd slowly parted for the elders and guardians.
No one dared stand in their path.
The silence followed them everywhere.
Rose could hear the soft sound of footsteps against stone.
The rustling of clothing.
Whispers stopping the moment she looked up.
⸻
A child peeked from behind his mother before quickly hiding again.
Rose's chest tightened painfully.
⸻
People were afraid of her.
⸻
She lowered her head and kept walking.
⸻
The deeper they traveled into the village, the stranger the atmosphere became.
The air itself felt heavier.
Older.
Ancient energy lingered there, pressing against her skin with every step.
⸻
Then finally—
the path opened.
⸻
Rose stopped completely.
⸻
An enormous altar stood deep within the heart of Mystery Village.
Large enough to resemble an arena.
Ancient stone pillars surrounded it in a perfect circle, each covered in glowing markings pulsing faintly with mystical energy.
Barrier after barrier surrounded the structure.
Protective seals layered endlessly on top of one another.
The pressure coming from it struck Rose immediately.
Her breathing faltered.
⸻
It felt alive.
Watching her.
Waiting for her.
⸻
The four elders separated without speaking, each moving toward one of the towering pillars.
As they lifted their hands, ancient chants echoed across the clearing.
The barriers shimmered instantly.
One after another.
Locking into place.
⸻
One elder spoke solemnly.
"Rose Maxwell carries the blood of the Radiance Clan."
Another continued.
"But darkness now dwells within her soul."
A third elder raised his staff toward the sky.
"These barriers are placed not to harm the child…"
His voice deepened.
"…but to protect the village should the darkness awaken."
⸻
The words hit Rose harder than she expected.
Her throat tightened.
⸻
Around her, murmurs quietly spread through the villagers.
Fear.
Worry.
Suspicion.
Some looked sympathetic.
Others looked uncertain.
And a few—
looked at her as though she were already becoming something dangerous.
⸻
Rose didn't understand it.
She hadn't hurt anyone.
She never would.
So why did they look at her like this?
⸻
She lowered her eyes again and continued walking toward the altar.
⸻
The moment she crossed the threshold—
pain exploded through her body.
⸻
Rose gasped sharply.
Her knees nearly buckled beneath her.
A violent force slammed into her chest all at once, sending unbearable pressure through every part of her body.
Her vision blurred instantly.
Her heartbeat became uneven.
⸻
It felt like something inside her was being pulled apart.
Light.
Darkness.
Tearing against one another.
⸻
Rose clenched her teeth tightly, fighting back a cry of pain.
The agony was overwhelming.
But she endured it.
Because she trusted Marina.
⸻
Around the altar, the elders began chanting louder.
The barriers pulsed brighter.
The seven guardians immediately stepped into formation around the arena.
Ready.
Prepared for anything.
⸻
Marina slowly walked toward the center of the altar before turning back toward Rose.
Then she lifted her hand gently toward her.
"Come, child."
Her voice echoed softly throughout the arena.
"This is the trial you must complete."
⸻
The wind shifted violently around them.
The glowing symbols beneath the altar awakened one by one.
"This is only the beginning."
⸻
For the first time since arriving—
Marina's expression softened.
Not as a leader.
But as someone terrified for the child standing before her.
⸻
"We are all here," she said quietly,
"to make sure you survive this…"
A pause.
"…and come back to us."
⸻
For one long moment—
everything went silent.
⸻
Then the altar beneath Rose's feet began to glow.
Part 2
As Rose and Marina stood at the center of the altar, the ancient symbols beneath their feet began glowing brighter.
Lines of gold spread across the stone floor like veins awakening after centuries of sleep.
The air vibrated softly with power.
Ancient.
Heavy.
Watching.
⸻
Marina turned toward Rose calmly despite the tension surrounding them.
"Breathe, child," she said softly.
"Close your eyes."
Rose hesitated for only a moment before obeying.
Marina stepped closer and gently held both of Rose's hands.
"I will be with you every step of the way," she whispered.
"You will not face this alone."
⸻
Rose inhaled slowly.
Then exhaled.
Again.
And again.
The pressure around the altar intensified with every breath.
The barriers surrounding the arena pulsed faintly as the elders continued chanting.
⸻
Then—
Rose's head tilted upward suddenly.
Her eyes snapped open.
Golden light erupted from them instantly.
⸻
Several villagers gasped.
Even the guardians visibly tensed.
⸻
Marina tightened her grip on Rose's hands but did not let go.
Slowly, Marina closed her own eyes and began channeling her power directly into Rose's mind.
Soft silver energy surrounded Marina's body as her eyes began glowing as well—
calmer than Rose's.
Controlled.
Steady.
⸻
Then Marina entered Rose's consciousness.
⸻
Darkness surrounded her immediately.
Endless.
Cold.
Silent.
⸻
Marina moved carefully through it, following the faint traces of energy ahead of her.
Then—
she saw light.
⸻
A bright fire burned in the distance.
Small.
Fragile.
Surrounded completely by darkness.
⸻
As Marina stepped closer, her heart tightened painfully.
⸻
A little girl sat beside the fire.
Crying quietly.
Alone.
⸻
Rose.
⸻
The child hugged her knees tightly against her chest, trembling as tears rolled down her face.
"Mom…?"
Her small voice cracked.
"Dad…?"
⸻
Marina's chest ached at the sound.
The loneliness in that voice felt unbearable.
⸻
Then Marina noticed something else.
A figure standing within the shadows behind the child.
Watching silently.
⸻
It mirrored every movement little Rose made.
When the child cried—
the figure cried too.
But this version was not a child.
⸻
It was an adult.
Tall.
Shrouded in darkness.
Its face hidden.
Yet somehow—
Marina could feel its grief.
Its rage.
Its loneliness.
⸻
And somehow…
it felt connected to Rose.
⸻
Marina's heart began pounding harder.
Fear slowly crept into her chest.
Not fear of Rose—
but fear of what had attached itself to her soul.
⸻
Suddenly—
the world around Marina shifted violently.
⸻
The darkness vanished.
⸻
A throne room appeared before her.
Ancient.
Magnificent.
Terrifying.
⸻
Rows of rulers stood proudly along the massive hall, their presence commanding and powerful.
At the center—
sat the Queen.
⸻
Marina froze in shock.
The woman upon the throne radiated overwhelming authority.
Power flowed around her like living shadows.
Beautiful.
Deadly.
Untouchable.
⸻
Then—
everything changed.
⸻
A figure stepped from beside the throne.
Someone close.
Trusted.
⸻
And without warning—
a dagger plunged directly into the Queen's chest.
⸻
Marina gasped.
Her hand flew over her mouth instinctively.
The shock on the Queen's face was almost worse than the violence itself.
Betrayal.
Disbelief.
Pain.
⸻
The throne room erupted into chaos around her.
But Marina could barely move.
She stood frozen, watching the Queen slowly lift her head.
⸻
And look directly at her.
⸻
Marina's breath stopped.
Her spirit drifted backward slightly in the air as fear rushed through her entire body.
"She can see me…?"
⸻
The Queen's crimson eyes narrowed faintly.
As if recognizing her presence.
As if she had been aware of Marina the entire time.
⸻
Then—
the vision shattered again.
⸻
Marina was thrown into another memory.
⸻
A forest.
Dark.
Burning.
Filled with screams.
⸻
Battle raged everywhere.
The sound of steel clashing echoed violently through the trees.
Fire illuminated the night sky.
⸻
Two figures ran desperately through the forest carrying a small child wrapped tightly in their arms.
They were injured.
Terrified.
Running for their lives.
⸻
"Go!" one voice shouted desperately.
"Don't stop running!"
⸻
The child cried softly as they pushed deeper into the darkness.
⸻
Then whispers filled the air around Rose.
Soft.
Broken.
Desperate.
⸻
"Run…"
"Don't look back…"
"Stay quiet…"
"Be safe…"
⸻
A woman's voice trembled through the darkness.
"We're coming for you…"
Another voice followed immediately after.
"We love you…"
⸻
Then suddenly—
everything went silent.
Part 3
As Marina was thrown back into her own body, she gasped sharply for air.
Her hand released Rose's instantly as she clutched her chest, trembling violently.
Pain.
Fear.
Confusion.
Her breathing became uneven as sweat formed across her forehead.
She didn't fully understand what she had just witnessed inside Rose's mind…
…but she knew one thing.
This was not over.
Not even close.
Marina lowered her head briefly, forcing herself to steady her breathing.
No…
I cannot stop now.
Rose is still trapped in there.
Slowly, Marina lifted her shaking hand and grabbed Rose's once more.
Then she closed her eyes.
⸻
The pressure surrounding them exploded outward again.
The barrier around the altar trembled violently.
Several elders nearly lost their footing as cracks of energy spread across the protective seal.
Fear slowly spread throughout the crowd.
But no one stopped chanting.
Not a single elder moved.
The seven guards immediately stepped forward, positioning themselves around the altar in case the barrier collapsed completely.
Everyone understood now.
Something inside Rose was fighting back.
⸻
The moment Marina entered Rose's mind again—
she saw the little girl.
The child sat surrounded by fire and darkness, crying quietly to herself.
"Mom…"
"Dad…"
The small voice echoed painfully through the emptiness.
Then suddenly—
the little girl looked directly at Marina.
"Who are you?"
Marina froze.
"You… can see me?"
The little girl slowly stood.
"Why am I here?" she asked softly. "What's happening to me?"
Before Marina could answer—
the shadow moved.
Its head slowly turned toward Marina.
The atmosphere instantly changed.
The hatred pouring from the figure was overwhelming.
Deadly.
Protective.
The shadow no longer copied the little girl's movements.
Instead…
it stood between Marina and the child.
Shielding her.
Marina's eyes widened slightly.
Protecting her…?
The little girl reached out weakly.
"Please…" she whispered. "Take me home…"
Marina's heart tightened painfully.
"I'm trying to," she said softly.
The shadow suddenly stepped closer.
The darkness surrounding its body twisted violently.
It looked at Marina as though she were an intruder standing inside forbidden territory.
Marina swallowed hard.
For the first time since entering this place…
she understood something terrifying.
The little girl was Rose.
But the shadow…
was also Rose.
One filled with light.
One consumed by darkness.
How is this possible?
The Blackwell clan should not exist within a Radiance bloodline…
As Marina tried to understand, the shadow moved again.
Closer.
Closer.
Until suddenly—
it stood directly in front of her.
Marina's breath caught in her throat.
For a single moment…
her heart stopped.
She was staring directly into the face of darkness itself.
Then the figure spoke.
"Leave."
The voice was calm.
Cold.
Ancient.
And terrifying.
The force behind that single word slammed into Marina instantly.
The world around her shattered.
⸻
Suddenly—
she was somewhere else.
The throne room.
The same throne room.
But this time…
she was witnessing a memory.
A figure appeared behind the Queen without warning.
A blade pierced through her chest.
The sound echoed through the room.
The Queen froze.
Blood spilled slowly from her mouth as her eyes widened in disbelief.
Not anger.
Not rage.
Betrayal.
Pure heartbreak.
The Queen slowly turned her head toward the figure behind her.
As though she couldn't understand what had just happened.
Then—
the figure let go of the blade and ran.
Chaos erupted instantly throughout the throne room.
But Marina couldn't move.
She could only watch as the Queen reached her trembling hand toward someone who was no longer there.
Toward the person she loved.
Then she collapsed.
⸻
Marina was ripped away from the memory violently.
She stumbled backward inside the darkness, gasping for breath.
The little girl stood there once again.
And nearby…
the shadow remained silent.
Watching.
Not attacking.
Not moving.
Crying.
Marina slowly approached.
"I'm not here to hurt her," Marina said quietly.
The shadow's eyes narrowed.
"I'm here to save her."
The little girl looked up at Marina again.
"Who are you?"
This time, Marina smiled gently despite the fear inside her chest.
"In the future…" she whispered softly, "you call me Auntie."
The child blinked.
"You have a little sister named Momo."
The little girl tilted her head slightly.
"You have friends who love you."
A flicker crossed the child's eyes.
"You even have a boy you like."
The little girl's face turned slightly red.
"…Brian?"
Marina smiled softly.
"Yes."
The little girl wiped her tears slowly.
Then—
her body began changing.
Eight years old.
Ten.
Fifteen.
Nineteen.
Until finally—
Rose stood before Marina once more.
⸻
Outside the mindscape, the altar was becoming unstable.
The barriers flickered violently between light and shadow.
Several elders dropped to one knee from exhaustion, but still continued chanting.
One elder whispered under his breath:
"What in the heavens are we witnessing…?"
Fear spread throughout the village.
No one understood what Rose was becoming.
⸻
Inside the darkness—
the shadow finally stepped forward again.
But this time…
its appearance changed.
The darkness faded slowly from its face.
And Marina froze.
Because standing before them…
was another version of Rose.
Not identical.
Older somehow.
Colder.
More regal.
More dangerous.
The figure smiled faintly.
"You are brave to enter my domain."
Marina's expression tightened.
"Domain…?"
The woman stepped closer.
"This soul," she said calmly, "belongs to both of us."
Rose stared at her silently.
The woman reached up slowly and touched Rose's face gently.
"I am you," she whispered.
"And you are me."
The moment those words were spoken—
everything clicked into place.
Rose stepped backward slightly.
"No…"
The woman's golden eyes darkened.
"A fragment of my soul was sealed within yours long ago."
Marina immediately understood.
"The crown…"
The woman smiled.
"Yes."
"The crown weakened the seal."
Rose stared at her in disbelief.
"You're part of the Blackwell clan…"
The woman tilted her head slightly.
"And so are you."
Silence filled the darkness.
Rose looked shaken.
"That's impossible…"
"Is it?" the woman asked softly. "Have you never questioned why shadows fear you?"
Rose froze.
"You thought your strength came only from the Radiance clan…"
The woman's smile faded.
"But darkness recognizes its own."
Marina's heart sank.
Everything suddenly made sense.
The shadows.
The crown.
The connection.
The pull.
The woman looked away quietly.
"I was once called Queen."
For the first time—
her voice sounded tired.
Not cruel.
Not monstrous.
Just…
broken.
Rose looked at her carefully.
"What happened to you?"
The scenery around them shifted again.
The throne room returned.
But this time—
Rose saw everything.
The betrayal.
The loneliness.
The rage.
The grief.
And at the center of it all—
a woman destroyed by love.
When the vision ended, the Queen closed her eyes quietly.
"If I had never loved him…" she whispered, "perhaps none of this would have happened."
Then she looked at Rose.
"I do not even know what became of my daughter."
Rose's expression softened.
For the first time—
she no longer saw a monster.
She saw pain.
Deep, endless pain.
"Do you want revenge?" Rose asked quietly.
The Queen laughed softly.
"How can I seek revenge… when I exist inside you?"
She stepped closer.
"You are my second chance."
Marina immediately stepped forward.
"No."
The Queen's eyes shifted toward her instantly.
The pressure in the darkness intensified.
"This is between her and me."
Marina froze.
Even Rose felt the power behind those words.
The Queen turned back toward Rose.
"If you reject me completely…"
her voice lowered,
"you will destroy yourself."
Rose clenched her fists.
"And if I accept you?"
The Queen stared at her silently for a long moment.
"Then you must learn to control me."
Silence filled the darkness again.
Then—
the scenery around them changed completely.
An arena appeared.
Ancient.
Massive.
Beautiful.
The Queen smiled faintly.
"This was once my favorite place."
Rose slowly stepped forward.
"So we fight?"
The Queen nodded once.
"Yes."
Then both of them smiled.
And the battle began.
The Battle
The moment the battle began—
the arena shook.
A wave of darkness exploded outward from the Queen while flames burst from Rose at the exact same time.
The collision of power cracked the stone beneath their feet.
Marina immediately stepped backward, shielding herself from the pressure.
Neither of them hesitated.
Rose moved first.
Fire spiraled around her arm as she launched herself forward, throwing a blazing punch directly toward the Queen's chest.
The Queen caught her wrist effortlessly.
Flames burned violently between their hands.
Then the Queen twisted suddenly—
and threw Rose across the arena.
Rose crashed hard against the stone floor before flipping back onto her feet.
The Queen smiled faintly.
"Too emotional."
Rose narrowed her eyes.
Then vanished.
A burst of fire erupted behind the Queen as Rose reappeared, swinging her leg toward the Queen's head.
The Queen blocked instantly.
The impact sent a shockwave through the arena.
For several seconds, the two exchanged blows faster and faster.
Punches.
Kicks.
Fire.
Shadow.
Neither willing to give ground.
But slowly—
Rose began losing.
The Queen fought with terrifying precision.
Every movement was calm.
Controlled.
Ancient.
Meanwhile, Rose fought with frustration growing inside her.
The Queen struck Rose across the stomach hard enough to send her sliding across the arena floor.
Rose coughed violently as she forced herself back up.
"You rely too much on anger," the Queen said calmly.
Rose wiped blood from the corner of her mouth.
"And you rely too much on pain."
For the first time—
the Queen paused.
Only for a second.
But Rose saw it.
The hesitation.
The grief.
And suddenly—
Rose understood.
This fight was never truly about power.
The Queen wasn't trying to destroy her.
She was testing her.
Testing whether Rose would break the same way she once did.
The Queen rushed forward again.
Darkness surged around her hand as she struck toward Rose's chest—
but this time Rose didn't attack wildly.
She breathed.
Focused.
Remembered her training.
Remembered Marina.
Momo.
Sarah.
Brian.
Everyone waiting for her outside.
At the last second, Rose shifted sideways and caught the Queen's wrist.
The Queen's eyes widened slightly.
Then Rose countered.
A burst of golden fire erupted between them, forcing the Queen backward for the first time.
Marina stared in shock.
Rose's flames had changed.
They no longer looked unstable.
The fire burned brighter now—
but calmer.
Balanced.
The Queen looked down at the flames dancing across her arm.
Then slowly smiled.
"That's it…"
Rose stepped forward again.
This time, she wasn't fighting out of fear.
She wasn't trying to destroy the darkness.
She was controlling it.
Accepting it.
The arena trembled again as both of them launched forward simultaneously.
The Queen formed a spear of shadows.
Rose summoned blazing fire into her hands.
They collided violently in the center of the arena.
An explosion of light and darkness swallowed everything.
Marina raised her arm to shield her eyes from the blast.
Inside the chaos, both figures continued fighting.
The Queen struck first.
Rose blocked.
Rose countered.
The Queen dodged.
The speed of their movements became almost impossible to follow.
But little by little—
the balance of the fight changed.
Rose stopped fighting recklessly.
Her movements became smoother.
Sharper.
More confident.
The Queen smiled throughout the entire battle.
Almost proud.
Then finally—
Rose saw an opening.
She gathered all her power into one strike and drove her fist directly into the Queen's chest.
The impact shattered the ground beneath them.
The Queen was thrown backward across the arena before crashing heavily into the ruins.
Silence followed.
Rose stood there breathing hard, her body trembling from exhaustion.
Slowly—
the Queen began laughing.
Not cruelly.
Not mockingly.
But genuinely.
She pushed herself up from the rubble.
"Well done."
Rose stared at her cautiously.
The Queen looked at her with something unexpected in her eyes.
Relief.
"It has been a very long time," she said softly, "since someone reached this far without losing themselves."
The darkness surrounding her body slowly began fading away.
For the first time—
the Queen no longer looked like a monster.
She simply looked human.
Tired.
Lonely.
Free.
Rose slowly approached her.
The Queen looked at Rose quietly.
"You did not reject me," she said.
Rose shook her head softly.
"No."
The Queen's expression softened.
"And you did not fear me."
Rose looked directly into her eyes.
"I think… you were afraid first."
The Queen froze.
Then laughed quietly again.
A real laugh this time.
Marina stared at both of them in complete disbelief.
The Queen looked toward Rose one last time.
"Then I will yield."
She extended her hand slowly.
Rose looked at it for a moment before taking it.
The instant their hands touched—
light and darkness exploded around them together.
Not fighting.
Not destroying.
Becoming whole.
After the Battle — Revised Version
The moment Rose grabbed the Queen's hand—
the entire arena trembled.
Light and darkness erupted around them in violent waves, spiraling across the endless sky of the mindscape.
Marina shielded her eyes as the pressure exploded outward.
But something was different now.
The energy no longer felt chaotic.
The darkness was no longer trying to consume.
The light was no longer resisting.
For the first time—
both sides were moving together.
In balance.
Rose and the Queen stood silently in the center of the arena as power swirled around them like a storm.
Then slowly, the Queen stepped closer.
"So this…" she whispered softly, "…is what peace feels like."
Rose looked at her quietly.
For the first time, the Queen no longer looked terrifying.
She looked tired.
Lonely.
Broken.
The Queen lowered her eyes briefly.
"I spent so many years drowning in hatred," she said softly, "that I forgot what it felt like to simply exist."
Silence settled between them.
Then the Queen slowly lifted her hand and placed it gently over Rose's chest.
A faint warmth spread through Rose instantly.
"You must understand something," the Queen said quietly.
Rose frowned slightly.
"What?"
The Queen's expression darkened just a little.
"The seal may have weakened… but this is not the end."
Marina stepped forward carefully inside the mindscape.
"What do you mean?"
The Queen looked toward her calmly.
"The moment the seal broke, the shadows connected to the Blackwell bloodline felt it."
Marina's heart sank.
Rose's expression tightened.
"So they know about me now…"
The Queen did not answer immediately.
That silence was enough.
A cold feeling spread through Marina's chest.
"The Blackwell clan should have disappeared long ago…" Marina whispered.
The Queen gave a faint smile.
"Darkness does not disappear so easily."
The arena fell silent once more.
Then the Queen turned back toward Rose.
"You will face things far worse than me."
Rose blinked.
The Queen's golden eyes softened slightly.
"I became a monster because I was broken."
A flicker of pain crossed her face.
"But there are others who were born monsters from the beginning."
Even Marina felt uneasy hearing those words.
Rose lowered her gaze quietly, processing everything.
"So what happens now?"
The Queen stared at her for a long moment before answering.
"Now… you continue living."
Rose looked confused.
The Queen smiled faintly.
"You protect the people you care about."
"You grow stronger."
"And you make sure you never become me."
Those words hit Rose harder than the battle itself.
The Queen stepped closer again.
This time, her body began flickering between shadow and light.
"I cannot remain separated from you much longer," she said softly. "I am only a fragment now."
Rose stared at her silently.
For the first time—
she no longer saw the Queen as an enemy.
She saw pain.
A woman destroyed by betrayal.
A soul trapped in darkness for centuries.
The Queen slowly lifted her hand and touched Rose's forehead gently.
"In this life…" she whispered, "…live better than I did."
Rose's eyes softened.
Then slowly—
she grabbed the Queen's hand tighter.
"We'll live better," Rose corrected softly.
The Queen froze.
For the first time since Marina had seen her—
the Queen truly smiled.
Not cruelly.
Not coldly.
But peacefully.
Then the light around them intensified.
The shadows surrounding the Queen's body slowly dissolved into particles of darkness and gold.
Rose's eyes widened as the energy began flowing directly into her body.
The Queen closed her eyes.
And slowly—
she faded.
Not destroyed.
Not erased.
Accepted.
Becoming one with Rose once more.
The instant the merge completed—
the arena exploded with power.
Light and darkness surged violently across the mindscape.
The ground cracked beneath Marina's feet.
Rose cried out as countless emotions slammed into her all at once.
Grief.
Loneliness.
Rage.
Love.
Memories that did not belong to her flooded through her mind.
The Queen's memories.
The Queen's pain.
Everything.
Marina immediately rushed toward her.
"Rose!"
But before she could reach her—
the pressure exploded outward.
The entire mindscape shattered.
⸻
Marina's eyes snapped open.
She was thrown backward across the altar as a massive wave of power burst from Rose's body.
The barriers surrounding the altar cracked instantly.
Several elders nearly collapsed as they struggled to maintain control.
The villagers panicked.
Some stepped back in fear.
Others stared in complete shock as Rose's body slowly lifted into the air.
Light flickered around her violently.
Then shadows.
Then light again.
The pressure pouring from her body became overwhelming.
No one understood what was happening.
Only Marina knew.
And even she did not fully understand it.
The chanting of the elders became louder as the altar trembled beneath them.
Then suddenly—
everything stopped.
The light vanished.
The shadows disappeared.
Rose's body dropped weakly back onto the altar floor.
Silence filled the entire area.
For several long seconds—
Rose did not move.
Marina immediately rushed toward her.
"Rose?"
Slowly…
Rose opened her eyes.
For the briefest moment—
one eye glowed gold.
The other glowed crimson.
Then both faded back to normal.
Rose blinked weakly.
Confused.
Exhausted.
Alive.
Marina stared at her silently, relief washing over her so strongly she nearly cried.
Rose looked around slowly before mumbling softly:
"…I'm hungry."
The silence around the altar broke instantly.
Several exhausted elders looked completely speechless.
One nearly lost balance from disbelief.
After everything that had just happened—
this girl was talking about food.
Marina suddenly laughed.
Not because it was funny.
But because Rose still sounded like herself.
Momo immediately ran toward Rose in tears.
"ROSE!"
She threw herself into Rose's arms.
"You big meanie!" Momo cried. "You stopped looking at me! I thought something bad happened!"
Rose smiled weakly and hugged her tightly.
"I'm sorry."
Momo sniffled.
"You better be."
Rose laughed softly.
"I'll buy you the biggest ice cream shop I can find."
Momo's eyes widened immediately.
"…Really?"
Even some of the exhausted elders started laughing quietly after hearing that.
The fear surrounding the altar slowly faded.
But Marina remained silent.
Watching Rose carefully.
Because deep inside her heart—
she understood something terrifying.
This was not the end.
It was only the beginning.
