The return to headquarters felt strangely peaceful.
The Firewing glided through the evening sky with tired wings while the forest below swayed beneath the cool breeze. Benign rested one hand on her neck, smiling faintly when she answered with a quiet screech.
"You did well."
The Firewing nudged his shoulder before landing outside the headquarters with surprising grace despite the arrows she had taken earlier. Benign slid from the saddle and rubbed her neck again.
"I'll bring you something better than dried meat today."
She chirped once.
"Don't look at me like that. I spoil everyone."
Behind him, Areus landed lightly upon the grass while Rox walked past without a word. The slime she had controlled dissolved into blue liquid before disappearing beneath her sleeve.
"The information was useful," Rox said quietly.
Benign blinked.
"...You're welcome?"
She continued walking.
"I wasn't thanking you."
He looked toward Areus.
"Does she always do that?"
"Frequently."
