Chapter 47 - Danger

Mikhail spent a few hours in Kiven's home before he left.

After leaving, Mikhail found a mana bus and reached 38th Street.

Walking out of the bus, Mikhail kept going until he arrived at Daniel's office.

The bell on the door rang as Mikhail entered the building.

Ronda, who was busy with her work, quickly looked up and a smile bloomed on her face.

"Mikhail!" She beamed. "Congratulations!"

Mikhail smiled back. "Thank you."

The other two, Felix and Matt, also congratulated him, although the former was still grumpy.

Mikhail turned his gaze back to the lady. "Is Sir Daniel inside?"

Ronda nodded her head. "Yeah, he is free."

Mikhail thanked her and walked toward the office room before knocking on the door.

"Come in."

The voice echoed from the other side and Mikhail opened the door.

In the same old-looking office, Daniel sat on his chair, wearing a classic white shirt and pants.

He smiled when he looked at Mikhail. "Congratulations."

Mikhail smiled back. "Thank you."

He gestured for Mikhail to sit down while he continued.

"I will not ask why a tamer of Count Rank got into the prestigious university." He gave him a quick look. "You must be more special than I thought."

Mikhail only smiled in response without confirming or denying his words.

Daniel stared at him for a long second before he asked, "Are you here to resign?"

"Uh, yeah." Mikhail nodded honestly. "I will be leaving for the capital city the day after tomorrow."

Daniel had already expected such an outcome long before. He was well aware of Mikhail's capabilities and never doubted him.

The middle-aged man thought for a long second before he said with a sigh, "Honestly, you are the best assistant I could have ever asked for."

'Well, I did learn a thing or two with all those novels that I read on Earth.'

Mikhail straightened his back proudly.

"But I understand you will have your own path," Daniel continued. "One in which you will outgrow your teacher."

Mikhail smiled and said, "I am still way behind you."

"But it won't take long for you to catch up." Daniel replied, standing up. "I reckon you will be better than me in just a year or two."

Mikhail looked at Daniel, who walked toward the stand and wore his black vintage coat and hat.

"Let's get some fresh air," Daniel said, walking out of the room.

Mikhail followed after him as they both reached the main street.

They kept walking, taking in the bustle of the place.

"There are quite a few things that you will have to keep in mind in Capital City," Daniel said softly. "All sorts of people live there, from spies of different kingdoms to monsters in human skin."

Mikhail silently listened to the middle-aged man, who had spent a considerable amount of time in Capital City.

"There are also cults and unorthodox churches lurking in the shadows," Daniel continued softly. "But in all honesty, nobles are the ones you should be the most cautious of."

Mikhail tilted his head, a frown forming on his face. "Why do you say that?"

"The nobles are not made of chivalry and bravery." He replied with a chuckle. "They are just a bunch of miserable beings who will do anything for power and money."

Daniel turned at the intersection which led them to a different street.

"Nobles are responsible for almost nine out of ten tragedies. The representatives of parliament are equally the same."

Mikhail gently nodded his head, though suddenly there was something he didn't quite understand.

Looking up, he asked, "Why do we even have Representatives of Parliament?"

"Hm?"

"I mean, they are just lesser nobles." Mikhail said softly. "Why would anyone want them and real nobles as well?"

"The Representative of Parliament came from the Frenedic Empire. It worked with them because they were an empire of four different races."

Daniel replied softly, holding down his hat as a gust of wind grazed past them.

"They were loved by the commoners and later on, other kingdoms tried to copy them… which didn't end well."

Mikhail nodded his head but inwardly he was still startled.

'Frenedic Empire once again. I have been hearing a lot about them since I got the book of their language.'

Daniel let out a sigh as they walked into a small park that was made for children.

He sat down on a bench and Mikhail sat beside him.

"One more thing," Daniel said, turning toward him. "Keep your distance from the royal family. In fact, try to actively avoid them."

Mikhail tilted his head. "Are they that dangerous?"

"They are monsters and tightly entangled with different cults and churches," Daniel said in a solemn voice. "You should never trust them."

"….Did something drastic happen when you were in charge of the prince case?"

Mikhail had always doubted the entire case of the prince and his fiancée's affair.

There were so many things that didn't make sense to him.

Daniel let out a deep sigh and leaned back on the bench.

In a deep self-pitying voice he spoke.

"Because of that case, I saw things that I shouldn't have."

Mikhail wanted to ask more but he keenly noticed the sadness on Daniel's face.

He decided to leave the matter for another time.

"Your family lives in Capital City, right?" Mikhail asked gently.

Daniel nodded his head. "My daughter and wif—ex-wife."

There was a small pause in Daniel's voice when he talked about his wife.

'Is he still in love with her?' Mikhail thought to himself.

Changing the topic, he asked, "Will you visit me in the capital city?"

Daniel didn't say anything for a long second before he let out a chuckle.

"I suppose I can't spend all my life here." He looked at Mikhail with a bright smile. "Perhaps you can help me if I ever need it."

Mikhail smiled back and nodded in satisfaction.

Daniel reached inside his pocket, took out an envelope, and handed it to Mikhail.

"What's this?" He asked, taking it.

"A recommendation letter for the Hunter Association," Daniel replied, standing up. "You will understand its importance once you reach the capital city."

Mikhail nodded his head and put the envelope in his pocket before standing up as well.

"Would you mind telling me more about the capital city?" Mikhail asked politely.

Daniel smiled. "Sure."
