Chapter 32 - The backstory

After everything that had happened… the chaos, the fight, the near-death moments… silence finally settled.

Daniel sat alone.

The night was quiet, but his mind wasn't.

He closed his eyes, trying to focus. Mr. Stone had told him to meditate… to connect with the Thrones… to understand it, not fight it.

At first, there was nothing.

Just darkness.

Then…

A voice.

Deep. Ancient. Calm.

"Daniel…"

Daniel's eyes snapped open for a second, but then he forced himself to stay still.

"Thrones… is that you?" he whispered in his mind.

"Yes."

A faint golden glow appeared around him, like energy forming in the darkness. It felt warm… but heavy, as if it carried centuries of memories.

Daniel took a deep breath.

"Tell me," he said seriously. "Who is the Master?"

There was a pause.

For a moment, it felt like even Thrones was thinking.

Then it spoke.

"The Master… is not just a person."

Daniel frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"The Master… is the one who controls the ghosts. The one who commands them… the one who gives them purpose."

Daniel's heart started beating faster.

"So… someone is controlling all of this? All these attacks… they're not random?"

"No."

The answer was immediate.

"Everything happening right now… is planned."

Daniel clenched his fists.

"So who is he? Tell me his name."

There was silence again.

Then Thrones spoke, slower this time.

"Before you… there was another."

Daniel's expression changed.

"My… ancestor?"

"Yes."

A vision suddenly flashed in Daniel's mind.

A man… standing tall… surrounded by light.

Powerful. Calm. Fearless.

"My first master," Thrones continued.

"He was the greatest Ghost Killer of his time."

Daniel watched as the vision became clearer.

Battles.

Ghosts.

Weapons glowing.

War.

"I was his first weapon."

Daniel's eyes widened.

"You… were the first?"

"Yes."

The voice carried pride… and pain.

"At that time, ghosts existed… but they were not as powerful as they are now. They were dangerous… but not unstoppable."

The vision changed.

Ghosts attacking… but being defeated.

Victory after victory.

"But then… something changed."

Daniel's heart sank.

The atmosphere darkened.

"The ghosts became stronger."

"Smarter."

"Their attacks… were no longer random."

Daniel whispered, "Just like now…"

"Yes."

The visions became chaotic.

Villages burning.

People disappearing.

Ghosts attacking in patterns… like they were following orders.

"It felt as if… someone was controlling them."

Daniel felt a chill run down his spine.

"So even back then… there was a Master?"

"Yes."

The scene changed again.

A battlefield.

Daniel's ancestor… standing against something unseen… something powerful.

"My master fought him."

The air felt heavy.

"The Master of that time… his name was Caden."

Daniel repeated softly, "Caden…"

"Their battle… was beyond anything you can imagine."

The ground shattered.

Energy clashed.

Light against darkness.

"In the end… Caden was defeated."

Daniel felt a slight relief.

"So it ended there?"

But Thrones didn't respond immediately.

And that silence… was terrifying.

"No."

Daniel's heart dropped.

"Even after his death… something remained."

The visions faded.

Darkness returned.

"After that war… ghosts began to disappear."

"For years… decades… almost fifty years… it was as if ghosts never existed."

Daniel whispered, "That's why people stopped believing…"

"Yes."

Scenes flashed again.

People living normal lives.

Ghost Killers disappearing.

Their existence becoming a myth.

"The world forgot us."

Daniel clenched his jaw.

"But then… they returned."

The darkness shattered again.

Ghost attacks.

Brutal. Merciless.

Worse than before.

"This time… stronger."

"More organized."

"More dangerous."

Daniel's breathing grew heavier.

"This… this is the same pattern happening again…"

"Exactly."

Daniel paused… then asked the question that had been haunting him.

"Thrones… do you know who the Master is now?"

A long silence followed.

Then—

"No."

Daniel's eyes widened.

"You… don't know?"

"Not completely."

"But…"

Daniel leaned forward slightly.

"What?"

"I have a suspicion."

Daniel's voice turned serious.

"Tell me."

"The Master we defeated… Caden…"

Daniel's heart started pounding again.

"…may not be completely gone."

Silence.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Daniel shook his head slightly.

"That's impossible… you said he was defeated."

"Defeated… not erased."

That one line hit harder than anything.

Daniel swallowed.

"So… you're saying… he might be back?"

"Or… something connected to him."

Daniel ran his hand through his hair, frustrated.

"This is insane…"

Then suddenly—

"Wait…"

He froze.

"Why me?"

The question echoed in the darkness.

"Why is he targeting me?"

Thrones didn't answer immediately.

And that delay…

Made everything worse.

Finally—

"Because…"

"You are connected."

Daniel's eyes widened.

"You… are the seventh generation… of my first master."

Everything went silent.

Daniel felt like the ground beneath him disappeared.

"Seventh… generation?"

"Yes."

"His blood… flows in you."

Daniel's breathing became uneven.

"So that means…"

"You are his legacy."

The words hit like a storm.

"And for the Master…"

The voice grew darker.

"…you are the biggest threat."

Daniel's fists clenched tightly.

"That is why…"

"He will come for you first."

Silence.

Daniel slowly opened his eyes.

He was back.

Back in reality.

But everything felt different now.

This wasn't just a mission anymore.

This wasn't just about ghosts.

This was war.

And he…

Was at the center of it.

Daniel looked at his hands.

They were shaking.

But then…

He clenched them into fists.

"Fine…" he whispered.

"If he wants me…"

"I'll be ready."

Far away…

Somewhere in the darkness…

A faint voice echoed—

"I've found you… Daniel Williams…"

"This time… you won't survive."
