Chapter 74 The Vanishing Magic
The moment Lynn passed through the wall of Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, he sensed something was wrong.
A familiar dizziness made his stomach churn, as if invisible forces were tearing at him. Then, as if suddenly falling from a high platform, he stumbled and landed on soft ground.
Around him, a series of "thumps" echoed as his luggage rained down like dumplings being dropped into a pot. The largest luggage cart landed right in front of Lynn's face, startling him into quickly retreating.
Having experienced Apparition once before, Lynn didn't vomit immediately this time. He clutched his knees, dry-heaved a few times, and patted his face with his cold hands, finally recovering from the dizziness.
Looking around, Lynn realized he was standing on a small hill, with the sea behind him. In the distance, he could see scattered houses, and further still, a town.
This was clearly no longer King's Cross Station, and he wasn't even sure if he was still in England.
The sound of waves crashing against the rocks echoed behind him, and with the afterglow of the setting sun and the tranquil town in the distance, it should have been a beautiful scene.
But Lynn felt no appreciation whatsoever.
His face was ashen, as if covered in soot. That wall in the station couldn't possibly have malfunctioned on its own, and even if it did, it wouldn't have happened to him by sheer coincidence.
He'd clearly been tricked!
Lynn immediately began searching his luggage, but he couldn't find his "pet." Little Umaru's cage had been opened sometime earlier; it had long since escaped.
Not finding Little Umaru confirmed his suspicions of who had tricked him.
"Kira! Get out here!" Lynn shouted angrily.
Then, responding to his call, the old house-elf Kira weakly emerged from behind a rock not far away.
"Young master..."
"Don't call me master!"
"But Lynn Belloc is Kira's master!"
The house-elf suddenly became defiant, tilting its head back and shrieking.
Lynn looked at it coldly: "If you truly consider me your master, then take me back to London now."
"No! Young master must obtain what belongs to the old master! Otherwise, young master is unworthy of the old master's wealth, and unworthy of his name!"
Kira shook its large head, screaming hysterically.
"I never intended to be worthy! I command you, Kira! Now, immediately! Take me back!"
"Kira cannot obey the young master's orders! Kira will punish itself, but Kira is not a bad elf! Because Kira is doing it all for the young master's good!"
Lynn laughed angrily, feeling that he had lost his mind, actually arguing with a hopeless house-elf.
"Alright, let's both calm down now. First, you brought me here to get something from me?"
"Yes." Kira's voice weakened.
"That thing was left to me by my father?" Lynn tried to get information out of the house-elf.
Kira shook its head.
"Is that my mother?"
It shook its head again.
"Then who is she?" Lynn was getting impatient.
"Kira can't say. The old master ordered Kira not to tell the young master."
Lynn suppressed his anger and changed the subject.
"You have to tell me what you want me to get!"
"Kira doesn't know what it is either. Kira only knows that the young master must get it."
Lynn was completely enraged. He ignored the unreasonable house-elf, picked up his things from the ground, and put them back on the cart.
He pushed the cart towards the town. No matter where he was, he had to go back. It would be better if he was still in England. If he wasn't in England, he wouldn't have the same restrictions on using magic. Lynn didn't believe that the Aurors from the Ministry of Magic could cross borders to arrest him.
Kira didn't follow him but continued to scream behind him.
"The young master must get that thing. It's your proof! It's the proof of your noble bloodline! Only the highest bloodline is worthy of it! Only it is worthy of the highest bloodline!"
Lynn mocked without turning his head.
"Unless you use the Imperius Curse to control me, I must go back now. I must be out of my mind to go find that nonsense you're talking about."
"Kira won't hurt the young master, but the young master will. He will go to it on his own, because the young master is the one who needs it the most."
Lynn snorted coldly, said nothing more, and continued pushing the cart towards the distant town.
The sky was gradually darkening. Kira had disappeared somewhere. He walked onto the solid concrete road, and occasionally a car drove past him. Gradually, Lynn could even see the shadows of people illuminated by the lights in the nearest house.
Suddenly, Lynn felt something disappear from his body.
He froze on the spot for a full five seconds before suddenly turning pale as if bitten by a venomous snake, and quickly retreated.
His magic was gone!
Lynn didn't even care about his luggage, and ran frantically back to the small hill where he had appeared earlier.
But the magic that had disappeared from his body was as if it had been stolen by someone, and it didn't return.
Although he didn't know what had happened, Lynn was certain he'd been tricked by Kira.
There was something wrong with that town; it deliberately kept it from him, wanting him to go in.
Now, the house-elves were nowhere to be seen; they'd obviously run away the moment Lynn realized something was wrong.
"You just wait!" Lynn said through gritted teeth.
He still had to go into the town; the suddenly vanished magic was clearly related to this strange town.
No matter what, he had to get his magic back, otherwise, he could forget about magic and Hogwarts forever.
Fortunately, although his magic was gone, the system was still there, and not only that, it had even issued him a mission.
[Sudden Mission: Find the Stolen Magic]
[Mission Reward: Legendary Value 1, Magic Points 3]
[Failure Penalty: Permanent loss of magic, complete isolation from the magical world, and the application of a forgetting spell, forgetting everything about the magical world.]
"Fuck!"
Lynn cursed under his breath. He hadn't paid much attention to the mission reward; this was the first mission the system had given him with a failure penalty, a penalty he couldn't afford to bear.
Having considered the consequences, Lynn didn't hesitate and headed straight back towards the town.
