Chapter 60. A Revenge Ten Years Late (The End)
"Remember when I took you to Diagon Alley? Gringotts was robbed that day, and I was the thief. I stole a cup he used to use from his father's vault as a means to find him.
I came to Hogwarts to find him and take revenge. As for the young wizards being attacked by dark magic, I didn't care at all when the children blamed me.
I searched the castle for three months, almost every corner of Hogwarts, but I couldn't find him.
Until Christmas Eve, I finally concluded that he wasn't hiding in the castle at all, but in the Forbidden Forest.
He seemed to know I was coming, otherwise he wouldn't have used the Imperius Curse to control the centaurs and unicorns beforehand.
But the result was not bad; I killed him. Although I'm going to die too, after taking my revenge, there's no point in living anymore. Dying like this is a fitting end for me."
Professor Fawkes seemed to know he was about to die, and he began to ramble on, telling Lynn all about his arrangements after his death.
"By the way, there's a tapestry on the eighth floor of the castle. If you need a particular room, just stand in front of the wall opposite the tapestry, think about it, and walk back and forth three times. A door will appear on that wall. Open it and you'll find the room you need.
I discovered this by chance at Hogwarts. You might use it if you want to find a place to practice spells later.
After I die, don't neglect your practice of dark magic. You have a really high talent for it, so don't waste it.
There's a will I've written in my office drawer. It's for outsiders to see, and I've designated you as my sole heir."
"The entire Fawkes family's wealth is in my Gringotts vault, along with various books on dark magic. There are quite a few there; you can go there and take your time to inventory them.
Besides the will that's publicly known, I've tampered with the parchment that contains it.
When you get it, two addresses will appear on the back. One is in England, where I used to live. There are many research materials there on war magic, dark magic enhancement, and its diverse uses—you'll need them later.
The other address is in Iceland, where my wife, friends, and I used to work—that's the most important place. Lynn, you must listen carefully to me now and remember every word I say!"
Professor Fawkes's breathing became rapid; his body was now cold, and his consciousness was becoming somewhat unclear.
"That laboratory holds the results of our revolutionary improvements to dark magic.
Not just dark magic, but all spells—it's a huge change.
We tried to remove the wizard's emotions as a necessary condition for casting spells.
Although we haven't succeeded yet, we're not far from it."
It's an old house. You can open the lock on the door with a lock-picking spell.
Once inside, go to the kitchen and turn on the tap. The tap won't run, but it will cause a mural to appear on the innermost wall of the second floor.
It depicts a hunchbacked old witch with a hooked nose. Stand in front of her and recite these names in order: Antonin Vigor, Gareth Landrock, Isaac Mazlassi, Adolphe Challet, Eliza Balti.
After reciting the names, the old witch will ask who they are. Tell her they are either dead or alive.
A door will then appear on the wall. Open it and go inside. There's a large room filled with books and parchment, but those aren't important. Just say to the empty room, "Can someone sing me a song?"
A teapot, a cup, and a spoon will then sing you a happy birthday song. These three things know everything; you can ask them anything you want after they finish singing.
"I didn't originally intend to leave that lab to you. My friend went mad because of that research, but since you came to the Forbidden Forest and found me, perhaps it's fate.
It's best if you can understand that research in the future; if not, just forget about it. Even if it succeeds in the end, it might not be a good thing..."
Professor Fawkes's voice grew weaker, and Lynn's strength was almost exhausted. He gritted his teeth and pressed on towards Hogwarts with all his might.
"I didn't remember a single word you said. Who can remember such a complicated process after hearing it only once?
If you don't want your research to be hidden there forever, go get it yourself! Don't count on me. I'm just a good-for-nothing who'll just eat and wait to die.
I'll spend your money, live in your house, and live a life of debauchery, without learning any dark magic, and see if you still want to die!"
"You won't…you won't…" Professor Fawkes' voice began to falter again.
He was not only losing too much blood, but his consciousness was also beginning to blur.
He hadn't died immediately because wizards' physical constitutions were stronger than ordinary people's.
Lynn turned to look at Professor Fawkes and saw that his face was deathly pale and his eyes were closed. He immediately shouted anxiously,
"Professor! You can't sleep! If you sleep, you'll really die! We're almost at Hogwarts! You'll get better when we get to Hogwarts! You'll get better. Snape, that shameless guy, has all kinds of potions.
He'll heal you. And Madam Pomfrey, her medical skills are superb, she won't let you die!"
However, no matter how much Lynn shouted, Professor Fawkes did not respond to him.
Lynn collapsed into the muddy water in despair.
He had been in this world for so long, and he had always coldly observed the people around him.
In the orphanage, some people were kind to him, but Lynn wasn't blind. They were almost all after the inheritance left to him by his parents.
He'd had enough of that place, voluntarily relinquished a portion of his wealth, and seized leverage over someone's weakness. Through a combination of persuasion and coercion, he finally escaped the cold, devoid-of-warmth orphanage. Although he'd only spent six months with Professor Fawkes, he was the only person Lynn had known since arriving in this world who had been almost entirely selfless in his kindness.
And now, he was about to die.
Lynn silently watched the professor's increasingly weak breathing, his mind blank.
Just then, a golden light suddenly shone beside him!
A fiery red bird accompanied an old man with a white beard and crescent-shaped glasses, appearing beside Lynn.
Lynn stared in shock at the sudden appearance of Professor Dumbledore, but quickly realized what was happening.
"Professor! Look at Professor Fawkes! He's dying!"
