Chapter 42 - Powers

The staff person opened the door of a room, revealing a welcoming room. After settling in, the staff went away, leaving Jace alone in the room.

Jace was impressed with the room; it was a big bedroom with a king-size bed, there was a sofa and chair as a living space, and a private bathroom with a big bathtub and hot water.

For his first time in a hotel, Jace was satisfied with what he got.

Since it was evening, Jace decided to take a long and good bath; he didn't have the opportunity to have a proper bath in the past month.

Removing his clothes, he walked into the bathroom; it was spacious and well-lit. He turned the valve of hot water into the tub.

While it was filling, Jace went to the other side in the shower and washed himself thoroughly with soap.

Then he hopped into the steamy bathtub, submerging in the water; it was a little bit too hot, but Jace didn't mind.

Since he was in the water, he decided to check his ability of underwater breathing; he dipped his head fully into the water.

A small and thin straw appeared—almost invisible, connecting from Jace's mouth to the surface of the water above.

Jace found that even with the thin straw he was able to breathe quite well, and the thing didn't require much spirituality to maintain either; he could keep it on for hours.

The feeling Jace got completely submerged into hot water without worrying about not being able to breathe was amazing.

It was nothing short of euphoric; he felt lighter than ever.

He liked it very much.

Though he did not know how to swim, he never saw the point of learning, and besides, water was kind of scary.

Jace threw his thoughts out the window and focused on relaxing. His breathing and heartbeat slowed; his mind itself was in a state of half-sleep.

For the next two hours, he spent his time in the water relaxing and soothing his mind, until the temperature of the water was the same as his body.

Jace got out of the tub and wiped himself dry with a towel that was around, and wore a white robe. When he stepped into the living room, there was already dinner waiting for him.

After he ate, he went to bed and slept like a baby.

Next day, Jace decided to get better acquainted with his powers.

First thing he did was get some cards from his bag; he took a card into his hand and ignited it with his spirituality.

He didn't stop there; he instantly threw the card to the other side of the room.

When the card reached the end of the room, the small flames on it expanded to the size of a human being as Jace stepped out of them.

'Zhup!'

The flames disappeared as soon as Jace stepped out of them.

This was Flaming Jump!

He tried it out in some different ways to get the hang of it, but stopped after a few times as he did not want to drain all his spirituality.

He had other abilities to try out.

Then he tried to use his flame controlling ability; while this ability was overpowered, it had its flaw as well, but the flaw was manageable.

The initial range of 30 meters was fine, but it was only limited to controlling flames that already exist in the area.

While he could ignite things with this ability, it was only limited to combustible things like paper, oil, cloth, alcohol, wood, etc.

'Speaking of which,' since the oxygen in the air can be considered combustible, it wouldn't be too dramatic if he could make a flame in the air without any combustible source.

He brought out his hand and tried to ignite the air; it took a few tries until a flame burst out, but it disappeared instantly.

He knew that a fully digested Magician could create a flame out of air in their hand; this was likely how they did it.

The uses this ability had were too great to ignore; it was one of the core spells of a Magician.

And paired with Flaming Jump, it was just outstanding.

Jace had expended his spirituality, so he decided to rest a little to recover it.

While waiting for his spirituality to recover, Jace pulled out some papers and started cutting them into shapes according to the mystic knowledge that came from the potion.

Paper figurines.

It was more complicated to make than shown in the book; he had to infuse his hair, blood, a piece of cloth on his body, and spirituality.

And this made quite some sense to Jace, as he knew the uses of this ability; it was truly an essential part that made a Magician a Magician.

After making a few of them, he decided to try one out.

He put a substitute on the bed and then sat on the sofa looking at it; then without the wait, he instinctively used it.

Next instant he was sitting on the bed. He immediately turned his head to look at where he sat before, and he saw his substitute.

It looked identical to him in every way; in fact, Jace could actually make the substitute act, in case he had to act like he was hurt.

But the next moment the substitute disappeared, leaving behind a palm-size burning figurine.

The substitute's tangibility could only be maintained for 1 or 2 seconds, enough to fool the audience, and the max range of it was about 10 to 15 meters.

The substitute truly was useful, and not only in combat, but it could also be used to disrupt or redirect divinations, since it had his blood and other mediums.

It could take physical blows, curses, and everything.

This was an exceptional ability.

The other ability he tried out was paper weapons; he didn't really know how to make them otherwise than rolling it and using it as a baton, but he did know how to make a ninja blade.

He had learned it when he was a child; who would've thought that he would make them in another world to use?

After making a few shuriken, he held one in his fingers and threw it at a wall.

'Swip!'

The result was even better than his usual normal cards, but it wasn't that significant other than the aesthetical flare.

It was afternoon at this point. Jace decided he should buy some souvenirs for his 'neighbors.'
