The various categories of magic, known as Domains, have their own subcategories known as Disciplines. On a completely separate categorization, spells can be described by their Aspects.
Anima is the most widely used magical Domain, and most individuals are granted affinities for it. From the most commonly observed to least commonly observed domains in sapient individuals:
1. Anima
2. Status
3. Ordo
4. Psycha
Monsters are naturally driven to destroy civilization, and exhibit resonance between the sapient-restricted domains of Cuesa and Oatoa. Speculations suggest a Great Order restricted non-monster use of these special magics. Interestingly, monsters are not known to wield Status Magic. From the most commonly observed to least commonly observed domains of magic:
1. Anima
2. Ordo
3. Psycha
4. Cuesa
5. Oatoa
6. Status
Disciplines
Disciplines of magic are categorized based on the Domains of magic, and are used by casters to differentiate themselves from others. By domain:
Anima
- Alchemist: material transformation
- Elementalist: force manipulation
- Exorcist: pure Mana-energy manipulation
- Healer: life manipulation
Status
- Diviner: information divulsion and transference
Ordo
- Tempo Specialist: excelling in Time spells
- Spacio Specialist: excelling in Space spells
- Oro Specialist: excelling in Order spells
Psycha
- Illusionist: experience creation
- Domin(o/a): experience manipulation
- Tamer: experience harmonization
Aspects
Aspects of magic are the types of spells defined as their effects manifest.
Reinforcement spells coat, align, or reshape structures with Mana to give it special properties.
Emission spells output Mana or Mana-refined substances to extend its effects at range.
Transmutation spells permanently alter structures and its properties using mana, without requiring sustained output.
Perceptual spells divulge or alter information and experience using mana.
Vitality spells heal, grow, or bestow life according to the Mandatum Vitae*.
Terms Put Into Practice
There are many mages who do not follow the formal categorizations and definitions. For example, an Exorcist that utilizes Mana-energy might refer to themselves as a Colorless Mage, and a Diviner that utilizes Status magic might be referred to as a Analyst. Elementalist mages tend to refer to themselves by the form of force they prefer to manipulate, such as a Wind, Fire, or Light Mage. Healers identify themselves by the Life spells they perform best, such as Necromancer for reanimation magic or Druid for plant magic.
*Note: the Mandatum Vitae is a Great Order describing the rules and limitations of "Life."
