Francesca blinked. "Visitors?"
"Yes," Lady Margaret confirmed. "Three calling carriages already."
Silence fell immediately, then understanding dawned all at once. Lady Sophia sat back slowly with a look close to surprise.
Because everyone had known that the Andersons had been avoided yesterday, but today, society remembered they existed, all because Lord Philip Ashbourne had chosen Penelope Anderson.
And suddenly, that made her valuable again.
Francesca was the first to recover. "Oh, how shameless," she declared, scandalized and delighted all at once. "Yesterday they could scarcely remember our address after smudging our family's name, and now they arrive like starving birds scenting crumbs."
"Francesca," Lady Sophia murmured, though there was little reprimand in it, quietly exchanging a look between her and Penelope, the kind of look that questioned "you told her?".
But Francesca was simply talking about the rumors following her being compromised.
"Am I wrong?"
