The entire chamber shook.
Eryx stood frozen, his silver eyes fixed on the mysterious being.
"You didn't leave us," he repeated. "You were taken."
For the first time since Kael had met it, the being had no answer.
Kael slowly turned toward his brother.
"Eryx, what do you remember?"
Eryx pressed a hand against his chest.
"I don't know if these are my memories or yours. Everything feels connected." He swallowed. "But I remember a door. A black door standing in the middle of nothing."
The being took a step backward.
Eryx noticed.
"You know what I'm talking about."
The being's expression darkened.
"Yes."
Kael moved between them.
"Then tell us."
The being looked at Kael. You aren't ready."
Kael almost laughed.
"I'm beginning to hate those words."
"Kael—"
"No." His silver eyes burned. "I've spent my entire existence discovering that every answer leads to another secret. I learned that I created worlds, that I forgot myself, and that the Creators were part of my own design."
He stepped closer.
"Now you're telling me that the first being I ever loved was taken away from me. I want to know who did it."
Silence followed.
Then the being finally spoke.
"The one who existed before me."
Aetherion suddenly stirred inside Kael's consciousness.
"That is impossible."
The being looked toward Kael.
"Your companion disagrees."
Aetherion's voice became sharper.
"Before creation, there was only possibility. There could not have been another being before the first."
The mysterious being slowly shook its head.
"You have mistaken the beginning of existence for the beginning of everything."
Kael frowned.
"Explain."
The being raised its hand.
The chamber vanished.
---
They stood in an endless white landscape.
There were no stars or planets.
No time.
No space.
Only a vast emptiness stretching in every direction.
In the distance stood two figures.
One was a small child.
Kael recognized him immediately.
His original self.
The other was the mysterious being.
They sat together in the white emptiness, watching tiny lights appear and disappear.
The child laughed whenever a light survived.
He cried whenever one vanished.
Eventually, the child stood."I don't like this."
The being tilted its head.
"What don't you like?"
"When things disappear."
The child looked at the lights.
"I want everything to stay."
The being gently touched his shoulder.
"Then create something that can remember them."
The child considered this.
Then he smiled.
He created the first memory.
A tiny silver light settled between them.
It contained everything they had seen together.
Every laugh.
Every tear.
Every moment of their friendship.
Kael watched in silence.
He had never remembered being so small.
So innocent.
So completely unafraid.
Then the memory changed.
The white landscape began cracking.
A black door appeared in the distance.
The child turned toward it.
"What's that?"
The being immediately stood.
"Don't go near it."
"Why?"
"Because it wasn't made by us."
The door opened.
Something stood on the other side.
Kael couldn't see its face.
But he could hear its voice.
"You have created a possibility that should never have existed."
The child frowned.
"What does that mean?"
The figure behind the door looked toward the mysterious being.
"You were supposed to remain alone."
The being stepped in front of the child.
"He isn't alone anymore."
The figure was silent for a moment.
Then it answered.
"That is precisely the problem."
The white landscape shattered.
---
Kael stumbled as the memory ended.
Eryx caught his arm.
"What did you see?"
Kael looked at the mysterious being.
"The door."
The being nodded.
"The first door."
Kael's expression hardened.
"Who was standing behind it?"
The being didn't answer immediately.
Then it spoke a name.
"The Unwritten."
Aetherion fell silent.
The Hunger, which had remained quiet until now, suddenly stepped forward.
"I know that name."
Everyone turned toward it.
Kael stared.
"You do?"
The Hunger nodded slowly."Not from memory. From instinct."
Its dark body trembled.
"Every time I consumed something, there was always a boundary I couldn't understand. Something that didn't belong to creation, destruction, or transformation."
It looked at the being.
"Something that existed beyond the possibility of being consumed."
The mysterious being nodded.
"The Unwritten cannot be destroyed because it has never been fully written into existence."
Kael frowned.
"Then how did it take you?"
"It didn't take my body."
The being looked down at its hands.
"It took the possibility that I could remain beside you."
Kael's heart tightened.
"What?"
The being continued.
"It separated me from your memories. It removed every path that could have led you back to me. You continued creating, but you no longer remembered why you had started."
Kael stared at it.
"And the loneliness?"
"You tried to fill it with creation."
The words struck deeper than any attack.
Kael remembered making the Origin.
Creating Eryx.
Building universes.
Searching for something he couldn't name.
All those endless possibilities.
All that power.
And still, somewhere inside him, there had always been an empty space.
"You were the reason I began creating everything," Kael whispered.
The being smiled sadly.
"I was the reason you wanted to share it."
For a moment, Kael couldn't speak.
Then he looked toward the black door.
"Where is the Unwritten now?"
The being's smile disappeared.
"It has been waiting."
"For what?"
"For you to remember me."
The chamber returned around them.
The Creators reappeared, but their expressions had changed.
The oldest among them approached Kael.
"We sealed every record of the Unwritten," he said. "We believed that if its name disappeared, its influence would disappear with it."
Kael looked at him coldly.
"You erased the truth."
"We were trying to protect creation."
"By allowing me to spend eternity searching for something I didn't know I'd lost?"
The Creator lowered his eyes.
"We were afraid."
Kael shook his head.
"Everyone is afraid. That doesn't make every choice right."
Eryx stepped beside him.
"Then we find the Unwritten."
The mysterious being looked at both brothers.
"You don't understand what you're proposing."
Eryx crossed his arms.
"Then explain it."
"The Unwritten doesn't fight to win. It removes the possibility of resistance. If it decides you cannot reach it, every path leading toward it may cease to exist."
Kael smiled faintly.
"Then I'll make a new path."
Aetherion spoke inside his mind.
"That may be impossible, even for you."
Kael looked toward the darkness.
"Impossible isn't the same as forbidden."
He raised his hand.
White light formed in his palm.
Black energy appeared around his wrist.
Silver power flowed through his fingers.
Then the fourth force emerged.
Will.
It didn't obey the chamber.
It didn't follow the rules of creation.
It simply answered Kael's decision.
A thin line appeared in the air.
A path that had never existed before.
The oldest Creator stepped backward.
"He's doing it."
The mysterious being stared at the line.
"Kael, stop!"
But Kael had already touched it.
The universe disappeared.
For one brief moment, he saw a vast black ocean.
Countless doors floated upon its surface.
Behind each door was a different possibility.
Behind one, Kael saw himself dying on the rooftop.
Behind another, Eryx stood alone among dead stars.
Behind another, the Origin had never existed.
Then Kael saw a final door.
It was completely white.
No handle.
No markings.
No lock.
Yet something behind it was watching him.
A voice entered his mind.
"You finally found the path."
Kael's blood ran cold.
The voice continued.
"But you should have left the memory buried."
Kael tightened his fist.
"You took someone from me."
A pause followed.
Then the voice answered.
"I took nothing that belonged to you."
The white door began opening.
"You gave that being to me."
Kael froze.
Behind the door stood a figure with his own face.
But unlike every other version of Kael he had encountered…
This one had no eyes.
No mouth.
No expression.
Only a blank face, as if existence itself had forgotten how to describe it.
The figure raised one hand.
And the mysterious being beside Kael suddenly disappeared.
"NO!"
Kael lunged forward.
Eryx grabbed him.
"Kael! It's a trap!"
The white door slammed shut.
The path shattered.Kael fell to his knees.
For several seconds, he couldn't breathe.
Then a small silver light appeared before him.
The same light he had seen in the memory.
The first memory he had created with his forgotten companion.
It floated gently toward his chest.
And a final message appeared inside his mind.
"If you want me back, Original…"
The Unwritten's voice echoed through the darkness.
"Come alone."
Kael slowly stood.
Eryx released his arm.
"No," Eryx said firmly. "Whatever you're thinking, the answer is no."
Kael looked at his brother.
"I can't let it keep him."
"And I won't let you walk into another trap alone."
The Hunger stepped forward. "Neither will I."
Aetherion's presence returned, stronger than before.
"I have spent this entire journey guiding you toward your memories. I will not abandon you at the moment they become dangerous."
Kael looked at all of them.
Then he smiled.
"Thank you."
He turned toward the place where the white door had disappeared.
"But I think we're misunderstanding something."
Eryx frowned.
"What?"
Kael opened his hand.
The silver memory floated above his palm.
"The Unwritten told me to come alone."
His eyes began glowing.
"It never said I had to obey."
The fourth force spread across the chamber.
And for the first time, the Creators watched Kael with something other than fear.
They watched him with hope.
Far beyond reality, behind the white door, the faceless figure slowly lowered its head.
For a moment, its blank face rippled.
A single eye appeared.
Then another.
And from somewhere deep within its impossible body came a whisper.
"He has learned to choose."
The Unwritten turned toward an enormous throne.
Something sat upon it.
Something that even the Unwritten refused to look at directly.
"Wake the first prisoner," the faceless figure commanded.
The throne began to move.
Chains older than creation trembled.
And a familiar voice emerged from the darkness.
"Kael…"
"I'm coming home."
To be continued…
