Chapter 5 - The Unknown

The three of them burst out of the narrow alley just as the buildings behind them began to collapse.

A deafening crack echoed through the air.

The two tall houses that stood on either side of the alley shuddered violently before crumbling inward. Walls split apart, windows shattered, and chunks of concrete broke free, crashing down with tremendous force.

Soryn grabbed both Serenya and Isaya by the arms and pulled them forward.

"Move!"

They stumbled out onto the open street just as the buildings finally gave way. With a thunderous crash, the buildings collapsed completely, sealing the alley behind them beneath a mountain of rubble.

The ground trembled beneath their feet.

Soryn finally slowed down a few steps away from the destruction. His chest rose and fell heavily as he struggled to breathe. Sweat rolled down the side of his face and dripped from his chin while he bent forward slightly, one hand resting against his thigh.

He turned his head and looked back at the two of them.

"A-Are you guys… okay?" he asked between breaths, his voice shook from exhaustion.

Serenya straightened herself, brushing some dust from her clothes. Isaya leaned slightly against the wall, still trying to catch his breath.

"Y-yeah…" they both answered.

But the moment their eyes settled on Soryn's face, their voices stopped abruptly. Their expressions froze.

Serenya's and Isaya's eyes widened.

Soryn frowned, confused by their reaction.

"What?" he asked, lifting his head slightly. "What is the matter?"

Isaya slowly raised his trembling hand and pointed toward Soryn's face.

"M-Mister… your… your eyes…"

Soryn blinked in confusion.

"My eyes?" he muttered. "What is wrong with them?"

He lifted his hand and wiped near his eye, his fingers brushed across the skin beneath it.

The moment his fingers touched the skin, he felt something wet. But it wasn't like sweat. It felt thicker… warmer. Something sticky.

Soryn slowly pulled his hand down and looked at it.

Dark red liquid stained his fingers.

Blood.

At that exact moment, another drop slid down from the corner of his eye and fell to the cracked pavement below.

Serenya's face paled.

"Soryn!" she shouted as she rushed toward him.

Isaya quickly followed, panic clear on his young face.

"Mister!"

Serenya grabbed his shoulders, trying to steady him as she leaned closer to examine his face.

But Soryn barely reacted.

His mind had already begun to blur.

What… just happened…? he thought weakly.

Why… is there blood…?

He tried to take a step forward, but his legs felt strangely unsteady.

The world around him began to spin.

The broken buildings… the ruined streets… the purple sky hanging over Titan City…

Everything slowly began to blur and twist, as if the entire world had started rotating around him.

"Soryn! Stay with us!" Serenya said urgently, shaking his shoulders slightly.

"Mister, don't close your eyes!" Isaya's voice trembled.

But their voices sounded distant.

Faint.

As if they were calling to him from somewhere far away.

Soryn's vision darkened as his eyelids grew heavier and heavier.

His body swayed.

The last thing he saw was Serenya reaching out to catch him as his body began to fall.

Then his eyes slowly closed.

Cold darkness pressed against Soryn from every direction. There was no ground beneath his feet, no sky above him, no wind, no sound. It felt as if he had been dropped into an endless void where even time had stopped moving.

His thoughts stirred slowly, like something waking from a deep sleep.

What is happening…?

Where am I…?

What is wrong…?

The questions rushed wildly through his mind, each one colliding with the next. His head felt heavy, as if something was trying to drag him deeper into the darkness.

Seconds passed.

Or maybe minutes.

In that strange place, Soryn couldn't tell.

Then finally-

His eyelids trembled.

Slowly, he opened his eyes.

A faint light pierced the darkness, forcing him to squint. His vision was blurry at first, shapes and shadows blended as if the world hadn't fully formed yet.

Soryn lifted a hand and rubbed his eyes.

"Where… am I…?" he muttered weakly.

As his sight slowly adjusted, the surroundings around him began to take shape.

He was standing inside a room.

A very dark room.

The walls stretched into shadows on every side, barely visible in the dimness. The only light in the room came from a single hanging bulb above.

It swayed slightly from the ceiling, its weak yellow glow flickering every few seconds as if struggling to stay alive.

Beneath that lonely light stood a small table.

A chair.

And an old computer.

In front of the table stood a man dressed completely in black.

His back faced Soryn.

The man stood silently under the light for a moment before slowly stepping forward. His footsteps echoed softly in the empty room as he pulled the chair back.

The legs of the chair scraped lightly against the floor.

After that he sat down gently on the chair.

The computer screen flickered on, illuminating his face faintly with a pale blue glow.

"Hey!" Soryn suddenly shouted.

His voice echoed through the silent room as he quickly walked toward the man.

"What is this place?!"

He stopped a few steps behind the chair, waiting for the man to react. But nothing happened.

The man didn't move. Didn't turn his head. Didn't even acknowledge that Soryn existed.

Soryn frowned.

Is he deaf… or just an idiot? Soryn thought with annoyance.

"Hey," he said again, raising his voice. "Can you even hear me?"

Still nothing. The man remained focused on the glowing computer screen.

Frustrated, Soryn leaned forward and looked at the monitor.

But the moment his eyes landed on the screen- his body froze.

No words came out of his mouth.

On the computer screen was a webpage.

A familiar one. Words stared back at him.

Soryn's breathing slowly became heavier. His heart started pounding louder and louder inside his chest.

This…

This is my first novel…

His fingers slowly clenched into fists as memories he had buried long ago began resurfacing.

Soryn suddenly stepped back and rushed around the chair, turning quickly to look at the man's face.

The moment he saw the man's face-

His eyes widened.

It was him.

Sitting in that chair… was Soryn himself.

But not the Soryn standing here.

This one looked younger.

Much younger.

His hair was messier, his face thinner, his expression filled with frustration as he stared at the hateful comments on the screen.

He looked about seventeen.

Seven years ago… Soryn realized.

The younger Soryn leaned forward slightly toward the monitor, his shoulders looked tense.

His lips moved slowly as his younger self whispered something under his breath.

But no sound reached the older Soryn.

It was like watching a silent memory.

Before Soryn could react-

The hanging light above them flickered violently.

The room started to tremble.

Cracks suddenly appeared across the walls, spreading like broken glass. Everything in that room started to flicker violently.

"What… what is happening?!" Soryn said as he stepped back few steps.

The ground beneath his feet trembled harder and harder.

Pieces of the walls began crumbling away into darkness as if the room itself was being erased.

The younger Soryn, the chair, the computer-Everything started breaking apart.

Then out of nowhere-A soft voice whispered beside Soryn's ear.

"Don't give up."

And then a voice echoed.

Die...

 I will kill you.

The voice was creepy enough that it sent chills through his spine.

Then in the endless void an entity stood. Soryn could not see its body.

Then it began to move and a scythe appeared on its right hand. As the creepy voice kept echoing.

Die…

Die…

Die…
