"No name," Velryn said. "Nobody in that camp knows one. They get instructions through the relay and that's all." He looked at Faelyn, and this time there was nothing playful in it. "The way they spoke about whoever it is—not like someone new who stepped in. Like something that was always there. Behind Scar'oth. Not beside him. Behind."
"He was the face," Faelyn said.
"Yes," Velryn said. "And now the face is gone and whatever was behind it stopped needing one."
"The camp moved closer the same week," Faelyn said. "They're not being patient anymore. Because the waterfall is clean. Because the tribes are merging. Because everything that was supposed to keep this territory weak has been coming apart for months and they know it."
Nobody argued with that.
Karvesh looked at Faelyn. "The former Shadowfang wolves who want out. They've been inside longest. They may have heard pieces of who is at the end of that relay."
