A knock at the door interrupted her spiraling thoughts.
"Enter," Roshan called.
Mira stepped inside and took one look at Faelyn before going still. Her eyes swept over Faelyn's face, down to her hands, then back up again. She was reading something there.
"You look terrible."
"Good morning to you too," Faelyn muttered.
"I'm serious. Are you ill?"
"No. Just tired."
Mira's eyes narrowed slightly as she glanced at the two chiefs, then back to Faelyn.
"Hmm."
That single sound carried volumes.
She studied Faelyn for another long moment, then seemed to come to some decision.
"May I?" She gestured to Faelyn's wrist.
"What?"
"Your pulse."
Faelyn held out her hand.
Mira's fingers pressed gently to her wrist, counting and feeling. Her expression stayed neutral, but something flickered in her eyes. Recognition maybe. Or suspicion.
She released Faelyn's hand.
"Interesting."
"What's interesting?"
"Nothing concerning." Mira's voice was too casual. "Just checking."
