The guardian beast remained completely still for a few moments after the last traces of the black smoke disappeared from its body, as though it was trying to understand what had just happened.
For centuries, every movement of its body had been accompanied by the sensation of those cursed chains tightening around its flesh, and even when it slept, the curse had never allowed it to forget its imprisonment.
Now there was nothing.
No chains pulling at its limbs, no dark energy feeding upon its life force, and no wounds reopening the moment they began to heal.
It slowly lowered its head and looked toward the entrance of the cave, where a faint stream of daylight entered through the gaps between the rocks.
The enormous beast took its first step toward the entrance.
