The souls surrounding Kandarpaasura were behaving like starving creatures that had suddenly found something alive in a place where nothing living ever entered.
They clung to him with desperate force, grabbing his arms, legs and body, trying to pull him deeper whenever he attempted to move forward.
Kandarpaasura fought back with everything he had.
He pushed them away, tore their hands from his body and tried to force his way toward the opposite bank, but every time he managed to free himself, several more souls immediately rushed toward him.
The harder he fought, the more violently they responded, until it seemed as though the entire river had turned against him.
"Get away from me!"
His voice echoed through the water.
