Devaratha slid several more feet across the forest floor before the mysterious tail loosened its grip around his ankle.

The instant he was free, he sprang backward.
His eyes rapidly swept across the surrounding flower forest.
Silence.
The towering flowers swayed gently beneath the evening breeze as though nothing had happened.
Yet every instinct within him screamed that he was not alone.
Without hesitation, he raised his right hand.

Golden light shimmered into existence.
Rudhirabhra materialized within his grasp.
The divine axe let out a low hum as though sensing its master's vigilance.
Devaratha slowly shifted his stance.
