Being whipped was not something Elain had seen coming.
It would raise questions if Cynthia were to find out that she had left the mansion after being whipped the night before, her body covered in wounds.
But she had no choice. Otherwise, she would face greater danger if she failed to show up at Willow River. Who knew what sort of punishment Rafelius Greyford was fond of?
Thankfully, Cynthia had left early that afternoon to visit the Ansleys.
Elain knew her aunt would still likely discover that she had left the mansion, but she would deal with that later.
For now, this was the important thing to do.
It was still far from comfortable to move around, but it was bearable compared to the pain of being whipped the night before. She wore a long-sleeved, high-collared dress to conceal the wounds on her body, along with a capelet draped over her shoulders.
