He had not tried to formalize it because he had been careful, across four years, about developing his Apollo gifts at a pace that did not outrun his Hecate practice. By the end of the session, Will came over and looked at his three most recent patients and went very still. Then he looked at Kael.
'Their inflammation markers are down,' he said. 'Measurably. The contusion on Marco's shoulder — the one that should have needed three more days — it's already past the acute phase.'
'Music is vibration,' Kael said. 'Vibration at the right frequencies affects tissue. That's not supernatural — that's physics. The divine layer on top of it is that my bloodline gives the vibration a healing intent that the body reads as a cue to accelerate.'
Will looked at him. 'You can heal through music.'
'The Apollo legacy can, when it's developed. I've been developing it.' He put the instrument down. 'It's not replacement therapy — it accelerates what's already happening. But in a sustained conflict, that's significant. The difference between three days and one day of recovery time means the difference between someone being available or not for the next battle.'
'Your father,' Will said slowly, 'plays music for cardiac patients sometimes. As a supplementary intervention. He told you it helped but he couldn't explain why.'
'He inherited the same thing at lower power. Yes.' Kael looked at the room, at the five campers, at the measurable improvement. 'I'm going to play here more often. If that's okay.'
