The Pokémon Sumo Conference was truly a different kind of challenge.
With all skills and moves banned, the elemental attributes of the Pokémon became irrelevant. During the battles, one had to analyze only the opponent's physical composition and weight.
Just like the battle currently underway between a Feraligatr and a Golem.
Ordinarily, a Feraligatr would have a complete elemental advantage over a Golem. However, in this setting, the Golem's bodycomposed of solid rock and weighing a massive 300 kilogramsposed a significant threat to the Feraligatr.
As the match began, the two Pokémon locked together in a test of raw power. In terms of weight and strength, the Feraligatr was naturally at a racial disadvantage. Suddenly, Raiden shouted an order, "Feraligatr, relax your body!"
In the middle of the struggle, the Feraligatr abruptly withdrew its strength. The Golem, carried by its own heavy momentum, lurched forward and began to fall. Seizing the moment, the Feraligatr slammed a fist onto the Golem's back.
Raiden had masterfully exploited the Golem's own weight to bring the opponent down.
It was a brilliant moment in the tournament! Soon, it was Ash's turn to take the stage. Snorlax's opponent was a fully evolved Poliwrath, a creature that looked like a literal demon of pure muscle. "Go, Poliwrath!" its trainer yelled.
At the start of the match, the opposing Poliwrath charged forward with terrifying momentum.
However, it slammed directly into Snorlax's soft, elastic belly. It was instantly bounced back, flying through the air and landing hard outside the ring.
"Great job, Snorlax!" Ash called out, tossing an Energy Bar over.
The Energy Bar was a System-produced snack exclusive to Snorlax. It was nutrient-dense, packed with calories, and extremely effective at sating hunger. Its price was no cheaper than Snorlax's specialized feed.
This was exactly what was needed for Snorlax's training.
"Snor!" Snorlax cried happily, munching on its favorite snack.
Relying on its massive belly, Ash's progress through the tournament was exceptionally smooth, and he soon reached the semi-finals! The final matchups were set: a Blastoise against Raiden's Feraligatr, while Snorlax faced off against a Machamp.
"Ash, I'll see you in the finals!" Raiden said, radiating confidence in both his Feraligatr and Ash's Snorlax. He hadn't expected that this boy who had wandered into Rikishii Town by chance would be so formidable.
The battle between Feraligatr and Blastoise began first. It was a fierce clash between the final evolutions of the Kanto and Johto Water-type starters, making for a spectacular sight.
Ash's two Water-type starters had already reached their second stages. Under Slowking's daily training, they were progressing rapidly, and Ash believed they would reach their final forms soon. Misty, however, was torn. Both were Water-types, both were strong and majestic, and she found herself conflicted over which one to cheer for.
They were indeed evenly matched! The two starters collided with a boom. Feraligatr's strength seemed slightly superior, slowly pushing the Blastoise backward.
"Knock it off the stage!"
Feraligatr surged with power, trying to whip the Blastoise to the side and throw it out of bounds.
But Blastoise stood its ground with its powerful lower limbs. On its trainer's command, it leaped high, aiming its back-mounted water cannons like a battering ram to smash into Feraligatr.
The power behind the strike was not to be underestimated! However, Feraligatr was much more agile than the heavily armored Blastoise. With a twist of its body, it evaded the shoulder bash.
This left Blastoise's back wide open! The opportunity had come! Feraligatr exerted its full strength, delivering a heavy palm strike to Blastoise's back, sending it careening toward the boundary.
Yet, at the critical moment, Blastoise ground to a halt. It spun around and launched a rapid barrage of palm thrusts. It was hard to imagine a Blastoise could move with such attacking speed.
Feraligatr was pushed to the brink.
Two more hits would have sent it out of the ring. Blastoise prepared for a final, decisive strikea heavy palm thrust that seemed impossible to block. However, in a flash, Feraligatr ducked, dodging the blow. It countered with an upward palm strike to Blastoise's chin and then grabbed the water cannons on its back, hurling the massive turtle out of the ring!
Feraligatr was the winner! It was a magnificent battle! In comparison, Ash and Snorlax's match was much easier.
It was the same story as before: the Machamp slammed into Snorlax's belly and was promptly sent flying out of the ring.
The two finalists finally met. Ash was curious to see if Raiden and Feraligatr had a way to deal with Snorlax's belly. Moreover, his Snorlax was currently in the transitional stage of its Bond Evolution!
"Ash, you're really something, but I'm not going to lose! The championship will be mine!" Raiden declared.
"Same here! My Snorlax is the strongest!" Ash countered.
The battle began immediately. "Feraligatr, push him out!"
Raiden went for a direct confrontationa bold move! As it turned out, Raiden had identified a weakness in Snorlax's belly defense. Feraligatr struck high on the torso, avoiding the most elastic part of the stomach. Bit by bit, it began to push Snorlax toward the edge.
"Clever!"
Ash wasn't surprised; this man was a professional Pokémon Sumo trainer. "Snorlax, send him flying!"
Having such a powerful body and an elastic stomach, they had to use those advantages. Snorlax thrust its round belly forward, instantly bouncing Feraligatr away! Raiden bit his lip; that stomach was a nightmare to handle! Ash's Snorlax was abnormally large and exceptionally heavy. No matter how much strength Feraligatr had, it couldn't win in a head-to-head shove.
The best way should have been like the match against Golemusing the opponent's weight against them.
However, Snorlax didn't even use its hands to grapple; it just used its belly to shove. How was he supposed to counter that? While Raiden was racking his brains, Ash was getting more excited.
Strange patterns began to surface on Snorlax's body. On its belly, a pair of eyes seemed to be slowly opening. Those narrow slits were now glowing with a crimson light! Snorlax, already a majestic creature, now looked even more menacing and fierce.
"Snorlax, jump!"
It was a bizarre command that left the audience confused. However, Snorlax gave a light hop, rising half a meter into the air before crashing down. The heavy impact caused the entire arena to shudder, creating an effect comparable to an actual earthquake! Everyone instinctively grabbed the railings for support, leaving Feraligatr struggling just to stay upright.
"Now, knock Feraligatr out!"
Ash had Snorlax jump specifically so Feraligatr couldn't dodge. Snorlax slammed into it with a brutal shove, finally securing the championship! The reward for the Sumo Conference was a King's Rock and a year's supply of Pokémon food.
Snorlax wasn't a picky eater. It gulped down the food in no time and looked at Ash for more.
Ash gave it another Energy Bar, which finally satisfied the giant.
