Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Defenses

"So, what's the plan?" asked Blake as he looked towards the goblins setting up a perimeter around the village using wood he provided. "The idea is to build a large wall using my sticky thread, using scaffolding and windows for goblin archers to fire up on the pack" said Rimuru as he looked over the design he had on the ground. "That does seem good, but what about other defensive maneuvers, weapons or spells?" asked Blake. "Well, goblins aren't that strong, and as it pains me to say it, I don't think they would take to spells" said Rimuru, not even sure they knew any magic at all. Blake could only sigh. "Well, we could at least add a little more fortification to the wall beside your thread" said Blake. "Yeah, I planned on making a wall of steel thread, so when they charge in they would get cut to pieces."

"Brutal man, but effective" Blake commented as he looked over a manual he summoned and was looking at the geometric formations inscribed on the pages. It was a manual on barrier and defensive magic, using knowledge from all places. Granted it was only full of basic principles, but he was still learning the basics of magic from Diablo, even if learning from him already put him more ahead than many others in the amount of time he had. "What you thinking?" asked Rimuru as he took a peek at what Blake was looking at. "I was thinking of adding magical defenses around the village using a central formation in the middle and setting up connected circles at four points" explained Blake.

"Thats... not a bad idea" Rimuru complimented. "Oh, I've been meaning to ask you, but what is your special unique skill?" asked Rimuru. "Unique skill?" asked Blake and Rimuru could only 'blink'. "Yeah, the skill you received upon transfer here?" asked Rimuru. "Well, its not a unique skill, but I have the ability to summon anyone and anything" said Blake. Rimuru could only scream cheater in his mind, but his skills weren't that rule abiding either, they would definitely be categorised as cheat skills by anyone else.

"What about yours?" asked Blake and Rimuru explained what his skills did. "Wow, that's protag skills right there" chuckled Blake as he and Rimuru made their ways towards the village. "Yeah, it allowed me to analyse your summoning and now I have summoning magic, sorry by the way" said Rimuru. "Im happy to help, and Rimuru your skill allows you to gain the skills and abilities of what you eat right?" asked Blake as Rimuru nodded. "Huh, I have some ideas if you don't mind" asked Blake as Rimuru went along with it. They seemed to have built a good friendship in the brief time they met, alot faster than most would in a day.

Blake took Rimuru to somewhere in the woods and was able to find a clearing for them to test this. "Alright, I am gonna summon a monster at first, just to test" said Blake as he waved his hand and from the air appeared a pale man with a volcano on his head, spewing small amounts of lava from it as if visibly agitated. "Where am I?" he asked, his tone inundated with anger. "Sorry pal" said Rimuru as he engulfed him and while the monster, Jogo, was able to somewhat put up a fight, Rimuru won out and devoured the curse whole.

"Whoa, that thing put up a fight, what was it?" asked Rimuru. "According to my ability, it is a cursed spirit named Jogo. An amalgamation of negative emotions towards volcanoes" explained Blake. "Where was it from?" asked Rimuru. "I believe it was from a version of Japan in the year...2018 I think" Blake answered as Rimuru could only blink in disbelief. "I know you said you could summon anything, but that right there proves the deal, to me atleast" said Rimuru with a sigh.

[Finished analysis of being known as , gained the unique skill: Disaster Flames]

"We also proved your test, I gained a new skill known as [Disaster Flames]" informed Rimuru. "Well, now we have an avenue of strengthening for you, though you will still have to train of course" smiled Blake as they went back to the village. "Also, you should analyse these formations I'm gonna put down, having some extra data never hurts" said Blake as he began marking out the boundary of the village and in the center began to meticulously carve the formation into some summoned platforms at the four cardinal directions and the center using modified fire magic and manatite as a starter.

Rimuru was of course analysing and storing the data away with Great Sage, and he was learning a lot with this method. "So, what does these formulas exactly do?" asked Rimuru. "Well, the central formula acts as the core of the spell, giving direction, fuel, and even order to the four circles at the four directions. It projects a simple wall that protects against most damage" explained Blake. "It sounds like we wont even need to worry about direwolves" chuckled Rimuru. "I wouldn't say that, its not a powerful barrier, it can still break and wear with enough damage, thus upkeep is needed. Of course, we will train them in the art of course" smiled Blake as he put the finishing touches on the last circle and moved to the center.

"Okay, were gonna feed in some manatite, and it will trigger an auto mana absorption from the air, and it shouldn't draw from the villagers" said Blake as he placed the manatite on the circle and activated the formation and it began to glow with a slight glow. Then around the village sprang a barrier from the magicules in the air and a transparent membrane was constructed. "There, we are done" said Blake as he smiled at his hard work. "Now, when were done with the direwolves we need to teach them to repair the barrier and upkeep it" said Blake as Rimuru nodded.

"Now, lets finish with the wall and teach them some basic defense" said Blake and they went back to the goblins to help them prepare for the fight ahead.
