Sairis's POV
By the time Sairis was done washing up and had changed into clean clothes, every box had been moved out of the room.
He stood in the doorway and looked at the empty space for a moment. The shelf was bare. The table was clear. The trunk was gone.
It looked like nobody had ever lived here, which was exactly how rooms looked after people left them and exactly how he had not wanted it to look.
He had spent months in this room. He had sat at that table going through records and writing notes and eating meals he had carried from the kitchen.
He had slept in that bed and lain awake in it and sat on the edge of it when things were too much to carry standing up. This room had been the only space in this palace that was entirely his, and now it was just a room again.
He swallowed and looked away.
There were people in this palace he was going to miss in ways he was not ready to think about fully.
