Loreen's POV
Candice shifted so fast she nearly slipped off the bench. Loreen's hand shot out and steadied her without thinking. She froze for a second, eyes wide.
So Sairis had not told her that Loreen knew about the disguises, Loreen thought to himself.
The pieces started to fit in his mind. Sairis had known that Loreen was going to talk about the disguises if he met lady Candice. So was that why he had lied that Loreen had left the palace yesterday. Because the way Candice was kept away from him. It was not random.
Was Sairis trying to keep them apart? Or was he trying to hide Candice poor health from Loreen?
Loreen let out a slow breath. "You are not in trouble," he said at last. "And neither is Sairis. But that is only because I am the only one who knows for now."
Candice blinked at him, her lips parted like she wanted to speak but could not find the words.
"I am sorry… I did not," she started, then stopped again.
