Everyone gathered around Florence's bed. Charles held the vial inside his hand.
He was a little trembling.
Carter put a hand on his shoulder. "Do it. I promise you on my life. She will be fine."
Charles nodded. The old man approached the girl on the bed.
Amelia helped her to sit up.
"Thank you, Miss Orchard."
Charles wrapped his arm around her and helped her drink the potion.
The potion was clear. As clear as water. Maybe it wouldn't work. Maybe it would only make her worse.
Charles was afraid.
Florence's lips moved slightly.
Then she opened her eyes.
"Charles... You're dead too, huh?" Florence's first words accompanied with a sarcasm chuckle.
All that tenderness of Charles was gone. A facade enveloped him. The image of a strong unbreakable man.
"I'm glad you finally decide to wake up." Charles put her down gently. "I waste a lot of pounds on saving you, girl. I expect you to clean the house until you're free of debt."
