Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The One Who Sings the Earth

Daenerys merely gave Dax a deep look, saying nothing. But Miraxis, who was beside her, once again breathed out scorching Dragonflame towards the sky.

Then he looked at Dax with provocative eyes, as if to say,

"Dragon, this is what you call power!"

After Daenerys left with Dax, the youths of Skagos also rushed towards the Unicorn pasture. However, due to the long distance, they had not yet arrived.

While waiting for them, Daenerys walked up to the two small Unicorns, who were already terrified, and gently stroked their trembling bodies.

Their pitiful appearance was much cuter than when they had been baring their teeth and snarling at her earlier.

Unicorns are also quite spiritual magical creatures. It was unclear whether they sensed that Daenerys could now protect them, or if it was because they had previously been controlled by Dax.

The two Dragons were now very docile in front of Daenerys. And after feeling the rich magic from the purple diamond bracelet on Daenerys's hand, they even comfortably accepted Daenerys's caresses.

It seems that taming beasts with the coercion of a Dragon is a good method! With a Dragon, the world's most powerful magical creature, no animal would dare to be arrogant or presumptuous in front of Daenerys.

By the time the Skagos youths arrived at the Unicorn pasture, the two small Unicorns were already as obedient as two large dogs in front of Daenerys.

"Greetings, Your Royal Highness!"

Two short youths, after removing their cloaks, finally revealed their true forms as Children of the Forest.

Although the Children of the Forest had slightly darker skin, their features were extremely delicate and beautiful, with eyes and long ears as lovely as those of elves.

Moreover, they only had three fingers, with sharp claws growing on their thumbs.

"Hello, Watcher, Herbalist!"

Looking at the two Children of the Forest, who resembled adorable lolis, Daenerys couldn't help but say softly,

"Can you tell me your story?"

The green-eyed Watcher curiously surveyed Daenerys for a moment, then nodded and began,

"Deep underground, within the stones, within the trees. Before the First Men came to this land you call Westeros, she was the home of us, the Children of the Forest."

"But even in those days, our numbers were few. The gods granted us long lives, but also limited our numbers, lest we fill the world, like deer filling a forest with no wolves to hunt them."

"In the Dawn Age, the sun that shone upon us was rising. But now our sun has set, and the sun of humankind is at its brightest. Your rise and prosperity are our decline and end."

"The Giants are almost extinct; they were once both our bane and our brethren. The great lions of the western mountains have been slaughtered, the Unicorns have almost vanished, and only a few hundred Mammoths remain."

"The Direwolves will outlast us, but their doom will also come. In the world created by humans, there is not enough living space left for them or for us."

Listening to the Watcher's narration, Daenerys felt that her speech was like the chanting of the earth and history, with beautiful intonations and cadences.

"Thank you, Watcher! Your voice is truly beautiful, like a singer of nature!"

"Actually, you don't have to be pessimistic. Humans are a very inclusive race. In the process of conquest, they show greed and cruelty. But we cannot erase the kindness and tolerance of humans."

"At least in my understanding, an ideal kingdom should have humans, Children of the Forest, Giants, and even beasts coexisting harmoniously. Such a scene would be richer and more beautiful."

"But Princess, even if such an ideal kingdom exists. The makers of the rules can only be humans, right?!"

Although Daenerys's words moved the Watcher for a moment, her long life had made her accustomed to too many shattered dreams and cruel realities, so she quickly regained her composure.

Syrax

"Does that matter?"

Daenerys continued,

"I believe that to maintain harmony in a world, it is easier to achieve if a strong and benevolent race is in a leadership position."

"As long as we can let the chants of the Children of the Forest echo across the land again. Let the Giants riding Mammoths have a place to belong once more. It is most important that all living beings have a chance to survive and thrive, isn't it?"

"As you just said, in a forest without wolves, even docile deer can become a disaster, can't they?"

Daenerys's words plunged everyone into thought. They all admired this young princess.

During this time, they had carefully investigated the changes in White Sheep Town over the past three years. It could be said that the people of White Sheep Town lived the happiest lives in all of Westeros.

Not only were they well-fed and clothed, but everyone with a skill could be given important roles, and their lives would become even more prosperous.

Moreover, the rule of law in White Sheep Town was clear and just; all who made mistakes received strict punishment. And all who were diligent and followed the rules received the protection of this young princess.

Even the livestock raised in White Sheep Town became increasingly excellent in appearance. Even for the Watcher and the Herbalist, two long-lived Children of the Forest, it was a sight they had never seen before.

An Old Dragon

The Watcher and the Herbalist exchanged glances, then held hands and began to chant softly. They sang in the ancient Old Tongue, and Daenerys and the others could not understand the meaning.

But the primal instincts and emotional fluctuations contained within the song not only resonated with and moved everyone present, but even Miraxis and the two Unicorns, as well as the more distant livestock, flowers, and trees, seemed to be immersed in this beautiful song.

As they chanted to the earth, everyone spontaneously sat on the grass, listening quietly.

Daenerys also slowly fell into a semi-conscious state amidst their song. Her consciousness seemed to traverse endless time and space, returning to an era when Westeros was still covered in Weirwood trees and forests.

At that time, countless primitive races dwelled on this land. There were the Children of the Forest, the singers of the earth; tall Giants riding massive Mammoths; but more numerous were the forest elves, whose physiques were very similar to humans, as well as beast-men who controlled various strange beasts, and some small dwarves who could forge excellent equipment.

However, the Elf tribe, the Beast-men, and the Small Dwarves, due to their constant warfare, slowly all disappeared into the long river of history. Subsequently, the Children of the Forest and the Giants also began a long period of opposition and conflict.

Until one day, the First Men, wielding bronze, arrived. They cut down Weirwood trees and forests for fire and to build houses, and they drove away the Children of the Forest and Giants who originally lived there.

The Children of the Forest and the Giants then united to resist the human First Men.

Until one day, from the distant Eternal Winter Lands, a vast, overwhelming white ice mist swept down. At this moment, Daenerys shivered, instantly waking up.
