Artoria entered the study, calmed her mind, and concentrated her thoughts on the hidden magic mark left by the Ancient One last time. She attempted to inject a gentle, inquisitive mental ripple into it.
The mark responded quickly. A warm, serene flow of energy carrying the scent of sandalwood and old books traveled along the link, forming a clear coordinate image in her mind along with a short message: "The door to knowledge is always open. Awaiting your visit."
The coordinates pointed to a specific location deep within the Himalayas.
Without hesitation, Artoria changed into a dark outfit suitable for movement and tidied herself up in front of the full-length mirror. The blonde girl in the mirror had clear and firm eyes. She smiled at Minerva, who was nearby: "I'm heading out. I'll be back soon."
"Safe travels, Artoria," Minerva said softly.
Artoria closed her eyes, recalling the feeling of the coordinates, and mobilized the low-level affinity for space and mystery within her body, derived from the "Caster Artoria" template. She didn't have the ability to tear through space, but she could use the guidance of the coordinates provided by the Ancient One to perform a passive, gentle "reception."
A faint, starlight-colored shimmer rose from her body, resonating with the warm energy coming from the distant coordinates. In the next second, her figure vanished from the study.
The sensation of teleportation was different from using the system for cross-World "Projection" switching or space manipulation in the Herrscher of Finality form. This feeling was more "natural," as if being wrapped in a warm air current, passing through a thin yet tough water membrane. Her vision briefly fell into a torrent of swirling light, shadows, and blurred symbols before her feet stepped onto solid, cold ground.
Crisp, thin air carrying the scent of ice and snow rushed into her lungs. Artoria opened her eyes.
What met her eyes was not the gloomy ancient temple or cave hidden on a cliff she had imagined. Instead, it was a magnificent complex of Eastern-style buildings standing amidst towering snow-capped mountains. Vermilion pillars, soaring eaves, and heavy tiles covered in white snow looked solemn and grand under a sky so blue it seemed unreal. The buildings were constructed against the mountain, layered and stacked, with winding corridors connecting countless halls, courtyards, and training grounds. A peculiar sense of "serenity" permeated the air—not silence, but a deeper, orderly atmosphere, as if even the sound of the wind and snow was regulated into a certain rhythm.
This was Kamar-Taj, one of the supreme sanctuaries on Earth's mystical side.
"Welcome to Kamar-Taj, Artoria."
A gentle voice sounded ahead. Artoria looked up and saw that the Ancient One was already standing under an archway not far away. She still wore that simple deep blue robe, her shaved head reflecting the snow's light with a warm luster, a peaceful smile on her face.
"Master Ancient One, sorry for the intrusion." Artoria stepped forward a few paces and bowed respectfully.
"No need for such formalities. That you could perceive the mark and follow its trail shows you have an affinity for this path." The Ancient One's gaze lingered on Artoria for a moment, as if seeing through many things. "Follow me, Traveler from afar. The Library of Kamar-Taj may have the answers you seek, as well as questions you have yet to imagine."
She turned and walked slowly up the snow-covered stone steps. Artoria followed closely behind.
Along the way, they encountered many sorcerers in various robes practicing in the courtyards. Some were sketching flickering spark runes in the void, some were controlling floating metal rings for offensive and defensive drills, and others were simply sitting in meditation, surrounded by a faint glow of energy. Seeing the Ancient One, they all bowed respectfully. When their eyes fell on Artoria, they carried undisguised curiosity and scrutiny, but no ill intent.
"What we practice are the secret arts of the Vishanti line, drawing energy from the multiverse through incantations, artifacts, and mental power to shape reality and protect dimensions," the Ancient One introduced simply as they walked. "The path is different from the powers you possess... which originate from vastly different systems of laws, but perhaps on certain levels of 'perceiving the World,' they can validate each other."
Artoria nodded silently. She could feel that the energy flowing in the air here was completely different from Tony's reactor, Hulk's Gamma Radiation, or even her own 'magic' or 'Honkai Energy.' It was more 'alive,' more 'rule-based,' as if it were itself a highly ordered form of 'information' or'strings' that could be understood and woven.
The Ancient One led her through layers of halls, eventually arriving at a simple-looking pavilion deep within the complex. Pushing open the door, the internal space was far more vast than it appeared from the outside. Towering bookshelves reached the ceiling, packed with scrolls, books, stone tablets, and even crystals of various materials, all exuding an ancient aura. Faint dust and the scent of old paper, herbs, and an indescribable smell of 'knowledge' floated in the air. A few figures in apprentice robes moved quietly between the shelves or read.
"This is the Library of Kamar-Taj, which records countless pieces of knowledge about magic, dimensions, mystical creatures, and the hidden side of this World." The Ancient One signaled that Artoria could browse at will. "However, knowledge itself has no meaning; the 'perspective' of understanding it and the 'heart' that applies it are key. The confusion in your heart regarding the nature of power, order and chaos, and the boundaries of protection and interference... perhaps you can find some clues here, or perhaps, trigger deeper reflection."
She walked to a seat by the window where tea had already been prepared. "You may browse as you wish. If you have questions, feel free to ask me. However, some knowledge carries protections or curses; do not force your way through without permission."
After thanking her, Artoria walked to the nearest bookshelf. She pulled out a large volume wrapped in some kind of tanned leather. The title was written in a twisted, almost writhing script, but when she concentrated, she could 'understand' its meaning—'Introduction to Basic Dimensional Geometry and Energy Mapping.'
She flipped open the pages. Inside were not dry formulas, but a large number of complex geometric figures, energy flow diagrams, and annotations interspersed with various ancient languages. These figures and descriptions shared a certain resemblance to the multi-dimensional space models and string theory diagrams she had encountered while studying modern physics, yet they were more... 'dynamic' and'subjective.' It described energy not as particles or waves, but as a 'flow' with 'intent' and 'attributes' that could be guided and shaped by 'will' and 'formulas.'
She looked through a few more. 'Overview of Elemental Spirits,' 'Principles of Mental Resonance in Incantation Construction,' 'Energy Node Theory of Protective Arrays'... each book opened a door to a new World for her. The 'magic' here was not the arbitrary, illogical 'miracle' from the fantasy works of her past life, but a set of extremely rigorous, complex 'techniques' or'sciences' built on a specific worldview and energy cognition, with basic axioms entirely different from conventional science.
Time passed quietly in reading and reflection. Artoria was completely immersed in this sea of knowledge. She found that the vague insights she had previously gained through 'Role-playing' regarding 'order,' 'definition,' 'purification,' and'space' could actually find partial theoretical correspondences or inspirations here. For example, the 'definition' authority of the 'Herrscher of Finality' shared similarities with high-level 'domain spells that modify local reality rules,' though the implementation methods and energy sources were Worlds apart. Caster's 'Staff of Selection' and protection rituals could also find shadows in the barriers and blessing spells here.
After an unknown amount of time, the Ancient One's voice sounded nearby: "It seems you have found something of interest."
Artoria closed a notebook on "Dimensional Barrier Stability and External Existence Compatibility"—which seemed to explain why she, as a "Transmigrator," could be relatively smoothly accepted by this World—and rubbed her somewhat aching temples.
"I have benefited greatly, Master," she said sincerely. "The other side of the World described here, the different logic of energy operation, has given me a new understanding of 'power.' It is not just a tool for destruction or creation, but a... way of perceiving and interacting with the World."
"Very good." The Ancient One smiled and nodded. "Power itself is neither good nor evil; it depends on the heart of the user. The unique abilities you possess may have distant and unfamiliar origins, but as they act upon this World now, they intersect with its rules. Understanding these rules allows you to better control your power, clarify your path, and see clearly... which attempts to define and utilize 'power' are born of fear, and which are born of responsibility."
She spoke pointedly, clearly aware of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s movements.
"I understand," Artoria nodded. "I will not be easily bound by any framework. But knowing more about the 'rules' of this World, whether scientific or mystical, will allow me to be more clear-headed when making choices."
"Then, this visit has achieved its purpose." The Ancient One stood up. "The doors of Kamar-Taj are always open to sincere seekers. However, it is time for you to return. Your Guardian, though she trusts you, always finds that separation brings unnecessary worry."
Artoria also stood up and thanked her solemnly once more. The Ancient One led her to the courtyard where she had arrived. With a wave of her hand, a circular portal shimmering with golden sparks appeared in the air. On the other side of the door, a corner of the Long Island seaside cottage's study was faintly visible.
"Follow the path you came, and you shall return home," the Ancient One said.
Artoria stepped into the portal. After the familiar weightlessness and flow of light, she was standing in her own study. Outside the window, the setting sun dyed the sea golden-red, much as it had when she left; it seemed only a few hours had passed.
Minerva arrived at the study door almost the moment she appeared. Her optical sensors quickly scanned her entire body, and after confirming she was unharmed, the blue light softened slightly.
"Welcome back, Artoria. Was the trip to Kamar-Taj successful?"
"Very successful." Artoria walked over and naturally took Minerva's hand, feeling that familiar warmth and stability. "I learned a lot. It also made me clearer on how to walk the path ahead."
S.H.I.E.L.D.'s draft was the anxiety and co-option of extraordinary power by secular authority. Kamar-Taj's magic was another reality's interpretation and protection of the World's rules. And she, as a transmigrator and the Host of the system, possessed power and a perspective that transcended the norm. She would not lean completely toward any side, but she would draw wisdom from each, clarify boundaries, and when necessary, protect the people and things she cared about in her own way, walking her own path.
The afterglow of the setting sun filtered through the window, dyeing the study a warm orange. In the distance, the World's undercurrents were still surging, but for now, there was peace at home. Though the road ahead was not yet fully clear, her heart was becoming increasingly firm.
