Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Death of Korvus

The second ray of the sun is falling on the table through the window. Time is passing by; eyes are fixed on the clock.

Silence had engulfed the house. Tick-tick, tick-tick... It felt as if the hands of the clock wanted to slit my throat. An old piece of paper lay fallen under the table. Nothing is clear; ink has spilled on the paper. This hadn't fallen long ago; the ink is still wet. Tring-tring-tring... khat... char...

Thap-thap, thap-thap... The ticking of the clock suddenly stops. Silence spreads everywhere. Piercing through the stillness, the only sound coming was—Tring-tring. The telephone was ringing in the room downstairs.

"Hello? Who is this?"

"9481. I know your biggest truth, the one you want to hide." Ting... ting...

"Who? Hello? Who is it? Speak up!" Tak. The phone disconnected.

Should I go? Let's go and see. Thap-thap... khat. I lock the gate and leave. The people here are so strange; they are talking even in whispers, as if they don't want anyone to hear their conversation. What they are talking about, they don't care about anyone else.

I enter the mall. A one-to-two-minute clip is shown: a man is walking on the train tracks. His head was bowed. A train comes from the front; the whistle blows. He stops. A slight, eerie smile was spreading across his face. The train is coming closer. In a while, the smile turned into a madman's laughter. He was laughing like a lunatic. He was spreading his arms wide, embracing his own death with his own hands.

The curtain fell. A strange audio stopped. Silence established its reign. The sound of crying from the distant church turns into a moan. A stampede breaks out in the mall; people start running. I try to go outside. A man, with a blood-stained handkerchief in his hands, was running past. Dhap! He crashes into me. A small

portion of the blood gets on my clothes. No proper answer—meaning it wasn't heard clearly.

I step outside. One question was running through my mind: why did a sudden stampede break out in the mall? What did people see?

9481... this is the address. "I was waiting for you. I know your biggest truth."

A lump forms in my throat as I swallow hard. Sweat was on my face. "What... what do you know?"

"You actually got scared. What is your name?"

Silence for a while.

In a heavy voice: "Didn't you hear me? Or do you not want to tell?"

There was a coldness in the voice. "My name is... Mr. (S)."
